ebay wants drivers license copy. Why after being on their site for 23 years ???

·1 week agoI just cancelled all my listings. Got a scammer return today as well. Been on ebay since 1998. No sales lately anyway because of Vinted etc. They destroyed the company boo hoo.

A quick Google search reveals that the spoon is a souvenir from "PLIMOTH Plantation," now known as Plimoth Patuxet. While it is, of course, associated with Plymouth Rock--which everything in Plymouth ultimately is--the word "rock" does not appear anywhere in the name of the tourist attraction. You could drop one of the references to "rock" from the listing title.
"Souvenir spoon plimouth rock plantation with rock in bowl of spoon.mayflower"
could become this 82-character title:
Plimoth Plantation souvenir spoon with Mayflower on top and rock in bowl of spoon.
Even that is a bit cumbersome. I might be tempted to stick with:
Plimoth Plantation souvenir spoon
The photos and item description could suffice for the references to Mayflower and rock, IMO.

You can use the word on the spoon "plimouth" and ALSO the correct spelling "Plymouth".
I often list LoTR books with both Tolkien and Tolkein in the title.
The Mayflower problem is that your title says "spoon.mayflower" . That may read as one word. Change it to "spoon Mayflower" .

·3 years agoJust to help you out, no buyer will ever see your spoon. You missed spelled Plymouth, and you have the words spoon and Mayflower tied together.

·3 years agoOff topic, but I can't help but wonder whether that's a contributing factor--albeit a small percentage--when sellers complain about the search function not finding their items.

OP3 years agoI did not misspell Plymouth the spoon maker did. I said that in the listing !And the Mayflower is on the top of the spoon

·3 years agoWell, the spoon itself reads "PLIMOTH" (no "U"). The listing title reads "PLIMOUTH" (another of the earlier spellings) and the modern spelling is Plymouth. All those spellings have been used at various times, so none could be considered as "misspellings," though the title of this listing should probably use the spelling that's actually shown on the example for sale.
I would suggest adding "Plymouth" to the title as well, in order to pick up potential buyers who are searching for these items under the modern name.

·3 years agoMy post did not address your spelling or anything else regarding your specific listing. I haven't even looked at any of your listings. My comment, which I clearly stated was off topic, was contemplating whether issues described by that member influence concerns from sellers regarding the visibility of their listings.
I assume you intended your reply to be directed to the member who posted the comment in the first place. (Just don't mention the use of "missed spelled" in the post--it's just a case of Muphry's Law. 😊)

·3 years agoOh, for sure it does! On a different board, in another place & time, we used to have a poster who every couple of weeks complained that her listings couldn't be found. She was ESL & a TERRIBLE speller (not a dig, I understand when you're ESL that English spelling does not come naturally) & sure enough every single time, she was mispelling words in her title 😂 And people wondered why I didn't take her search complaints seriously LOL.

·3 years agoEstablished accounts with a good track record are exactly the sort of accounts that scammers try to hijack.
By verifying with your license, you are showing that you still control your account.

·3 years agoBecause you want to continue to sell on eBay's platform? If not, then don't provide it. It's entirely up to you.
eBay is under pressure from law enforcement and from both current and pending legislation, state and federal, to vet its sellers and the merchandise they are selling. The idea is to help curb the sale of stolen goods and counterfeit goods and to help curb sales from hijacked accounts. No one knows how effective these measures will be, but it was time they were taken.

Why? Because it's necessary in order to sell here. If that's unacceptable to you, remember that your shoes are not nailed to the floor - you are free to stay or leave. If I was doing business at a site being run by what I perceived as a bunch of "clowns", the shame is upon me, not upon the "clowns". I'd leave.
Ebay certainly has some drawbacks. But the benefits to me far outweigh those drawbacks. So I stay and watch my business bank account deposits increase without getting my knickers in a twist over the triviality of sending a copy of my drivers license. I like seeing those weekly deposits.

·3 years agoYou comply to the request because you want to be paid for any sales that you happen to receive on the platform. Contact your local politician on why they have approved a new law requiring online platforms such as ebay and all the others to have a copy of a seller's driver license or Govt ID to verify identity. Please keep in mind that all financial instituytions also request the copy of your driver's license or Govt ID. Plus, you can probably think of many other places that have the same requirement. For most of already on ebay managed payments, we have already received such a request.
Ultimately, it's your choice. However if you want to recevie payments on this platform then you will need to provide them what they are requesting from you.

Going only by your feedback you have been away from selling for some months and you are in a high fraud category.

eBay users are not restricted in regard to IP addresses from which they access the site. If a member wants to access eBay at the local library, or Starbuck's or a friend's house--all having different IP addresses-- they are certainly allowed to do so if they choose.
A different IP address does not imply a hijacked account, since they're assigned based on a device's location at the time of use and change whenever a person logs in from another location.

Personally I wouldn't want to see anyone who works for ebay's ID and I would be against any more ridiculous regs that the govt. imposes on businesses both large and small.
