eBay Testing Getting Rid of Shipping & Returns Tab, Moving Info to Popup Instead
Looks like eBay is doing more testing on the View Item page design - in some browsers I'm seeing they have gotten rid of the Shipping, Returns, and Payments tab and instead to access that information the user has to click "See Details", which then displays the info in a popup.
Currently seeing it in Chrome both logged in and incognito and Firefox incognito, but not logged in.
Anyone else?

·2 years agoSince tagging is currently turned off on this forum while Khoros does a cleanse, I cannot tag posts to keep track of topics.
Therefore, I am adding a link here to another discussion where both buyers and sellers are discussing issues with the pop up, and more specifically the lack of ability to adjust quantity on the pop up.
Loss of important functionality. 😖

·2 years agoagain another useless change that does nothing to move the platform forward- just causes untold glitches and lost features and frustrates users..... And why do the item specifics still show up as being in a "tab" lol. if there are no longer tabs to select shouldnt the design team have finished the thought and cleaned up the page? Its just funny at this point.

·2 years agoThis thread was started on 3/20 it's now 8/16 and today is the first day I saw a listing that didn't have the shipping tab.
That shows how much I look at shipping details.

OP2 years ago@jg.mason it's not at all uncommon for eBay to do a short testing phase that may only apply to some users/some browsers, then stop the testing, and then months later start a phased rollout of finalized changes that may take weeks or months to become the new standard shown to all users.
So the fact you are just seeing it now doesn't necessarily mean you are not observant. 😉

·2 years agoHere's the new selling process:
1) Buyer sends message "What is shipping charge on multi quantity purchase?"
2) Seller reply "What's your ZIP code?"
3) Buyer reply "My ZIP is xxxxx"
4)) Seller reply "The shipping charge on a quantity of x items is $xx.xx"
It was bad enough that eBay doesn't include the buyer's ZIP in messages (you can lookup the postal zones based on the city and state but that's a lot of work) but now the sale can be delayed a few days.

·2 years agoI have done it this way for many years and have never had a problem.
I don't trust myself to set up combined shipping rules correctly. 😄

·2 years agoThe problem is depending on how often the buyer and seller are logged onto eBay it could take 3 days to tell the buyer the shipping cost. By that time they may have purchased from someone else.
With the old shipping tab a buyer could enter the quantity and their ZIP code to find the shipping charge in less than a minute (when you create the listing you have to enter the item weight).
If eBay would include the buyer's ZIP code in the message then you could significantly speed up the sale.

·2 years agoHad a buyer ask how much to ship quantity 3 of an item. I pulled up the listing, hit revise to see the weight and the combined shipping rule we used. Calculated 3 items would weight 5 ounces. I bring up the ebay shipping calculator and then realized they never gave me their zip code.
5 minutes spent to figure out I can't answer them. Replied you'll have to send me your zip code as eBay has removed the quantity functionality from shipping details as they are making "improvements".
pjcdn2005
·2 years agoIf you already have combined shipping rules set up they could add 3 items to their cart and see what the cost was. If you don't have them set up, you would need their zip code even before the 'improvements'. But I do agree that not being able to put in the quantity is a real problem. Also, when a buyer looked at the payment shipping tab, there would be a note such as 'pay $1 shipping for each extra item from this seller'. I don't think a note like that shows up now in the shipping details.
pinelakeparts
·2 years agoDefinitely agree that the quantity and location need to be put back. I have a buyer right now that wants to purchase 2 of an item and I can't figure out what the charge would be on ebay anymore. We use the shipping calculator in our listings that used the discounts we have saved off for package sizes and it was easy before when there was the shipping tab.
Not making things easier for sure.

OP2 years agoThanks @wastingtime101 @chapeau-noir - I thought I had remembered seeing a version of this at some point in the past too but couldn't remember exactly when.
And I definitely agree about the quantity!

·2 years agoI do like the items on multiple tabs view. If I look at 20 items on a site, I can keep the 20 separate tabs on top in Edge and separate them into groups...😊

·2 years agoNot seeing that in chrome while logged in, but it looks a lot like what I see when using the App....so I wonder if this is another attempt to harmonize the PC with the App.
chapeau-noir
·2 years ago@my-cottage-books-and-antiques I'm certain it is.
There's such a dysjunction between the mobile and web app. I list on three other mobile sites and particularly for Poshmark it's just seamless.

·2 years agoIt scans better, that's for sure. More compact with better organisation.
IIRC, didn't they do a partial roll-out of this some time earlier? I could swear that for a brief period of time I saw this popup on the web app.
ETA: X-posted with @wastingtime101 - that was when I saw the popup. I didn't have any feedback about it, probably because I didn't see it for long enough, I saw it maybe twice.

·2 years agoI haven't checked lately but I need to strenuously renew some of the FB I submitted on this back when they were testing it in July 2023 @kyle@ebay . (link)
As a buyer, it's 100% unacceptable they removed from the new pop-up, functionality we had on the shipping tab to change item quantity. I don't want to add to cart to see what ship cost will be on multiples. I'd rather go shop on another venue where I can see shipping charges upfront.
On top of that, as a volunteer on this forum that focuses on shipping and tech issues, it makes the process of reviewing listings shipping settings and assisting posters much more difficult when we cannot change quantity without adding to cart.
On the old shipping tab we could change both location and quantity. If we are now forced to add to cart to see ship cost for multiple items, we cannot see that multi-item ship cost with any location that's not saved in our account address file. That's a big problem both for assisting seller and buyers on this forum, but also for gift shopping where we might end up having our purchase shipped direct to friend/family.
P.S. I'm glad to see they took my feedback seriously about the need to change item location on the pop up which in the July testing was functionality they originally removed. Thanks for that, at least.
kyle@ebay
Hey @wastingtime101 thanks for the feedback! I have shared that (along with the rest of this thread) with the proper team.

·2 years agoHi @kyle@ebay . Can you pass on the feedback again about being able to adjust quantity on the shipping pop-up? Recently a buyer in Germany was asking me about ship cost on multiple items. Because the listing was using eIS for Germany, I went to the listing and looked at the shipping tab, then changed location to Germany to see what the buyer was seeing. Then I had to change the quantity on the shipping tab to see that rate and work out a solution for the issue.
If I could not change quantity on the shipping tab, I would have struggled to help that buyer. If I was already transitioned to the new shipping pop-up where I could not change quantity, I might not have worked out the issue and come up with a solution for the buyer.
The only way to figure it out with the pop up is to find a random address in Germany, add it to one of my other accounts under shipping addresses (different account since we can't add our own items to our cart), add items to my cart, change default address in cart to Germany address, and only then could I see what the buyer sees. How many sellers do you think will go through that effort?
Because I could easily and quickly change quantity and work it out on the shipping tab, I was able to resolve for the buyer and the buyer spent a couple hundred bucks. That's a sale both eBay and myself would have lost otherwise.
kyle@ebay
Hey @wastingtime101 Thanks for the tag. I have passed this along to our international shipping folks again. I'll be sure to relay any responses back.
wastingtime101
·2 years agoHi @kyle@ebay - thank you, although this was not the international shipping team handling the new shipping pop-up. This was part of the listing redesign updates (wasn't it the buying team?) - there was that private group on this forum.
pjcdn2005
·2 years agoI agree about the quantity too. Why on earth should a buyer have to go to checkout or the cart to see what they are going to be charged for two items.
I can see that the new function is streamlined in some ways but I don't think that the people who are deciding on these changes realize how buyers and sellers get used to using a site and that every time there is a change (which is often) it takes time to be comfortable again. In some cases, a person may hate it and try somewhere else.

·2 years agoeBay: If it isn't broke, break it. If it is broke, leave it.
I totally agree with you. So many changes and most are going backwards. Had 70% of my Immediate Pay auctions change to not immediate pay when eBay changed that drop down box just recently. As per eBay, I had to manually go back into each auction and change it. Even in setting the default to Immediate Pay, when listing auctions, it still wants to pull up a payment "policy" that I do not even have. It is getting tiring with all these changes that are not for the better.

·2 years agoI need to strenuously renew my objections to the lack of ability to adjust quantity on the shipping pop up @kyle@ebay . I frequently get messages from buyers asking about shipping on multiple quantities and I cannot see what they see unless I add a bogus address to my account and put items in my shopping cart. That's a ton of work.
It's also created problems with helping buyers and sellers on this forum when I cannot view ship costs on multiple quantities.
Can you please reconnect with the buying team on this?
kyle@ebay
Hey @wastingtime101 I will be glad to renew these objections with the proper teams!

·2 years agoThanks @kyle@ebay - I appreciate it. Really feeling inundated with inefficient, function-loss changes lately. It's like a mountain of bad things has been dropped on our shoulders:
- Shipping pop up lacking quantity option
- List of issues with the Active listings page in the hub that's too numerous to get into here
- New message format that does not CC to email
- Loss of functionality being tested on the listing page in photos area
- Problems never corrected with the unified listing tool like variations in the wrong spot (they need to be above item specifics)
- Variations not included on transaction reports downloads through Payments tab
- eBay is no longer showing my order discounts in red text on search view which has seriously impacted my sales. Run the same level discount with a coupon and suddenly the red text appears - except coupons are so much more limiting and cause issues with quantities my buyers typically purchase.
- Speaking as a buyer, the number of sponsored ads on the listing page has become so overwhelming it turns me off to shopping here.
The list is longer than this, but those are some of the key business-impacting issues happening right now.

Don't know how new this is, but I just started noticing this a few days ago on only 1 of my accounts. First thing I see when clicking on my own, or someone else's listing is a direct link to a competing store. Ads for competing listings is one thing, but a direct link to another store at the very top of the page is absurd.
wastingtime101
·2 years agoThere's a discussion about that from about 2 weeks ago if you want to see others' feedback and/or jump in @dydirect :

·2 years agoWell this may explain the 5 day site wide missing search bar in the seller 's store search other items. There was nothing wrong with the shipping & returns tab . These tech boys need to justify getting paid .
