I want to know why you are just now asking why eBay is "still" charging a seller fee on the sales tax. "Still" suggests that at one time you might have recognized that eBay charges that fee.
Here's the answer to your question: eBay charges that fee because they can. Maybe because they might even be allowed to charge a fee for handling everything related to sales tax -- so that you do not have to do it. eBay owns this playing field. They can set any and every rule that is legal.
And IT IS LEGAL for eBay to charge fees on sales tax.
None of these fees are secret. You can read all about them in these steps:
(1) Scroll to the bottom of this page and see the words "User Agreement"; they are underlined as a hyperlink. Click anywhere within those two words. You will be taken to the User Agreement.
(2) See the list of topics within the User Agreement. Click on Item 5, Fees and Taxes.
(3) In the second paragraph of Fees and Tax, you will see a hyperlink in the words "selling fees." You will be taken to multiple pages that spell out everything you could ever want to know.
How long, oh, Lord? How long?
