EBay steals more and more from sellers!
So, sellers, be careful! If eBay decides your “performance†is “below standard†you will be charged additional 6% of total value, adding up to 20%+ I total fees eBay will steal from your pocket! So, if you sell an item for $100, thinking that you will have to pay their claimed* 13% fee ($13) and you will be left with $87 - you are wrong! First of all, they will charge 13% of TOTAL Final amount, depending on taxes a buyer had to pay - let’s say a buyer paid $7 in taxes and $10 shipping charge (if you don’t provide free shipping) and TOTAL FINAL AMOUNT adds to $117 - it means that eBay will charge around $15, according to their policy. But, wait! If eBay decides your status is “below standard performanceâ€, they will charge additional 6% from TOTAL FINAL AMOUNT! In our case it would be extra $7! $15+$7=$22
Ta-Da! Another way to steal money from sellers! So, we, as sellers should stop these practices somehow.

This is a very old thread and is likely to be closed before long.
But to your concerns. BEFORE you sell, you should take the time to read and understand what the
Selling Fees are here on the site. That is VERY basic.
What you feel a camera or any other item is actually worth has NOTHING to do with what you choose to sell it for here. That is YOUR decision.
So you sold a camera for $45 + $4 shipping = $49 The perfume was $18 + $5 shipping.
IDK what the sales tax if any was on either one of those sales. The FVFs [final value fees] are calculated on the TOTAL amount the buyer pays. That is product, shipping and sales tax.
Did Ebay send you the money of one sale or both? Usually new sellers have money held for a little bit. It is possible that they did pay you out on the Camera less the FVFs for BOTH sales and less the shipping. You may still be waiting to be paid out on the other sale. Just a guess. You can tell for sure on your
Payment Summary page. Look at it closely as there is lots of details there.

NO . YOU sold an item for 45.00 and 15.00 YOU set the price. Ebay does not go by what you originally paid for the item. Ebay goes by what you listed/sold it for. You are in charge of that amount.

You sold the camera for $45.00 because that is a camera you paid $400.00 for in 2000 is only worth what you sold it for today 25 years later.

·2 years agoYou are totally in control of your seller performance rating. Seller Hub has a very clear dashboard of where/how you're falling short. I watch mine like a hawk. eBay is running a business, and they would be out of business if they were loaded down with sellers who can't deliver.

OP2 years agoHey, here is a policy - breath ONLY 200 times per 24 hours, otherwise you will be penalised with 10% of your paycheck… Of course, it’s a policy…. just follow the policy… I’m not saying that there is no policy, but I’m saying that it’s a broken policy implemented ONLY to rob sellers to increase eBay’s revenue.

·2 years agoThis is one of the main reasons behind more metrics and negative metric ability ebay is introducing against sellers. Neutrals will now be considered as a negative against your account. If post office is late, now they will ding your account. Since ebay now goes ahead and estimates delivery times separate from carriers, if you are late off ebay's estimate of delivery, your account can be harmed. And since buyers can abuse the inad system and lie, which ebay will do nothing about either in feedback or removing buyers who violate the return system, your account health will suffer from this type of scheme as well.
All of this make it far easier for ebay to "plausibly" find (create) ways to knock a sellers account down so they can then increase fees from them.

·2 years agoIt factors into ebays search engine optimization algorithm and affects your item rankings. Also if you get one the system will hold off on showing your items. Many long term youtube resellers have stated they got one and then it was like ebay turned their store off/ shunted their traffic severely the next few days.
Further it will come into play if you start getting a number of them, deserved or undeserved. It will negatively affect your account.

Fees are not hidden.
Standards to be maintained are not hidden.

OP2 years agoYou ARE missing the point - it shouldn’t be up to eBay to decide how customers treat the seller. There are already enough metrics for buyers to choose if they want to but from you or not. Let me put it in a simpler way for you - you go to store and a cashier tells you - “Hey, you are below standard and I will charge you extra for that!â€

it is up to eBay to run a site that buyers will continue to come to rather than turning away from because of poor seller performance.
It causes issues for sellers, buyers, and for eBay.
That is why there are standards to be met

OP2 years agoSo, customers are happy (according to my feedback), but for eBay “below standard†is anything lower 99%???? Common, wake up. I DON’T provide poor products, I respect my customers and always try to accommodate if there is a mishap! And look at my feedback - customers ARE HIGHLY SATISFIED with my performance, even if I have shipping delays due to having a full time job or other occasions. Again, it’s not fair to sellers like me to penalise them for what a computer script decides to do. When you buy something anywhere, you as a customer look at feedback or reviews and make your decisions then.

·2 years agoIt is perfectly fair. YOU set your handling time for shipping. There is zero excuse for repeatedly shipping late. Many, many sellers (myself included) have full time jobs and still manage to ship their sales on time.

·2 years agoDoes that mean your below standard rating is because you have too many late shipments? If that's the case, why do you not select a longer handling time on your listings, thereby eliminating your late shipping issue? eBay allows sellers to select handling times as short as same day, or as long as 40 biz days (nearly 2 months).

·2 years agonot really the same situation.
it would be more like you are a small vendor at the store where the cashier is. Then you are causing the store to lose customers because of your actions. They say you can stay, but the charges for your space are going to go up a bit, and that if you can correct your behavior, in the future they will reduce the charges.
You have been here long enough to know that it is a changed policy at eBay. A change from just suspending the account.

What? Sellers are NOT 'charged' when they BUY something. Walking into a store, as a BUYER so that entire 'simpler way' is apples to rope.
If you are a 'seller' in a store in the mall and get too many complaints, the management can tell you that you need to pay them 15% instead of 10% of sales until the complaints stop (as stipulated in the lease contract).
