hi there, definitely need some help from experienced eBayer's with a recent issue. Compared to when I got back to selling again over a year ago..... within the last 6 months+, been a higher and higher rate of eBay standard envelope orders not reaching customers. The customers then file a "Item not Received" claim, which is fair. I shop on eBay too, and would do the same thing as a buyer if my item never arrived. I of course refund the buyer. If you don't.... it's very very bad for your account. I've been in Below Standard hell and don't want to deal with that again. ugh.
I mostly sell trading card singles and use eBay Standard Envelope (1 oz, 2 oz, 3 oz) which is then shipped thru the USPS. As some of you all may know, theft by employees within the USPS recently is at an all time high. or the USPS straight up just losing envelopes completely.
eBay standard envelope comes with built in shipping insurance - 'eBay Standard Envelope (ESE) includes automatic shipping protection with no added purchase necessary. It covers loss or damage in transit up to $20 for single-item orders and up to $50 for combined orders."
What is the proper channel to file a claim for lost / stolen orders that never reached buyers, in which I had to refund them? It's just not quite clear. Are we supposed to:
A. use PIP Claim ie. https://www.pip-claim.com/PIPClaim/eBayIntClaim/CreateeBayClaim
B. use the eBay.com website and go to the bottom at help and support, and use a link there?
C. go thru the carrier ie USPS.com and use a link at the bottom
Looking for help on this from anyone who has had easy success with eBay shipping labels lost orders shipping insurance claims, of the best and proper channels / methods.
Thank you very much for the help and it's definitely becoming a bigger and bigger issue, in that I need to learn it.

This sounds more like a "trust me bro" kind of statement you would see on a Fox News chyron. "Some people say" isn't good enough for me. I need to see a source.
I've shipped 21,000+ items, thousands of which were trading cards singles in the 2000s and 2010s, not a single parcel lost domestically. One parcel lost internationally, but that wasn't due to USPS. Maybe my anecdote is equally useless, but at least I am categorizing it as an anecdote.
I'm sorry to hear you don't trust the USPS employees. Maybe you ought to start a competing mail service that's staffed with more honest folks.

·4 months agoYour ESEs are far more likely to be kicked out of the mail stream for being too stiff than to ever be stolen by a USPS employee. Can you bend them around a large coffee cup? If they are not arriving, they are probably too stiff. If envelopes follow requirements in the DMM for machineable letter mail, they will get through. No top loaders, no stiff envelopes (not even the ones eBay sells). use regular flexible letter envelopes.
Any insurance claims, even with ESE, should be very rare. If you have to constantly file those claims, they are probably not being packed correctly.

If you are shipping your cards using top loaders, your ESEs may be too rigid to zip swiftly through the USPS scanning system -- the ESEs need to be sufficiently flexible to smoothly zip through rounded metal cylinders on the belts.
Envelopes which are too rigid jam up the belts, and are removed -- these are considered to be "non-machinable."
They may be returned to you (eventually) marked "insufficient postage."
On the other hand, they may be delivered to your buyers marked "postage due."
And, on hand number three, I suspect many of them are just shipped off to whatever the "dead letter" department is currently called.
Top loaders and ESEs don't get along too well.

Also, when anyone posts about standard envelope I can't help but look at there store as I used to be a card specialist and did quite a few youtube videos about card selling on ebay.
So I have to ask this.
What are you doing?
When that card sells for 99 cents shipped you lose 34 cents shipping it out. That is after ebay fees and accounting for 12 cents for the cost of supplies (envelope, thermal label, sleeves, tape, etc).
If you sold your 180 cheapest listings today it would come out to an overall loss. Even those 1.99 ones only net you 55 cents. Minimum wage in my state is $15 an hour, $16.25 if you take into account the self employment tax you will be paying. For those 1.99 cards to make you McDonalds money then you would need to be able to list, file, pull, pack and ship 30 of them per hour. I can list 30 per hour no problem, however I can't also file, pull, pack and then ship 30 of them in that time leftover from listing.
When I worked at the card store the fastest guy there could ship 23-25 single card orders per hour.
Most of your cards are actively losing you money, and most of the rest are making you about $5 an hour. So I have to ask, what are you doing.
Also, if you are having a lot of claims then you are likely overpacking your cards, have the print settings on your thermal label printer too fast, or possibly both. The pip claim takes a good 10 minutes to do on its own. So even if that paid out every time (always has for me), it is even more of a time sink to make that tiny, tiny amount of money.
So really, what are you doing?

ESE results vary with how sellers pack, and what they sell.
Some never have a problem. Others, like myself, do not use it because a higher number of our shipments are late, lost or damaged.
The costs of customer service on ESE, even with insurance, are a waste of my time, and make the problem orders unprofitable. You may value your time higher or lower than I value mine.

OP4 months agoty tobacco for the quick & helpful reply!
99.5%+ of my eBay orders are done thru eBay standard envelope. so pip Claim form is the way to go? not ebay.com at the bottom or USPS at the bottom
