eBay Standard Envelope - Filing a Damage Claim - Advice Needed
A buyer recently messaged me indicating that cards sent through the eBay Standard Envelope service was damaged and included photos. The photos appear to be accurate so I trust the buyer.
All cards were wrapped in a plain white envelope, penny sleeve, and semi-rigid card holder.
What type of information should I be looking out for when filing a "Damage" claim. I worry that if information is missing or the wrong information is provided, they will deny my claim.
The terms of service states that coverage is excluded when - "Is addressed, wrapped or packed insufficiently, incorrectly or contrary to Carrier’s packaging requirements". I've sent 100's of orders with no issues, and sometimes worry if using anything more, it would not be "Machinable" by USPS or would cost to much compared to the original value of the cards.

·1 year agoHey There,
Can you show me/provide a link for where to file claims with ESE insurance? I've only filed a claim for a package sent via USPS Ground Advantage before, but never ESE. Ebay just brushed me off and told me to file with USPS just now, but I get the sense they probably always push customers in that direction even if it's not the correct route.

·3 years agoI file one of these every few months. They always pay out. All I ever need is a photo of the damaged cards with a message that says something like "Looks like they got damaged in shipping". They never follow up wanting more information as the amounts of money are so little that it would make no sense to unless someone was filling lots of claims.
I have found that overpacking actually causes more problems than underpacking. I now just put a baseball card on other side of the purchased card, slide that into a gaming sleeve and tape that off center inside the envelope. Not even 1 in 1000 gets damaged that way.
And honestly half the damage claims I get are fraudulent in my opinion, either impossible or intentional damage or some pokemon dreamer unhappy that their $1.99 card isn't a PSA 10. The insurance still pays out anyway.
Also, as someone who does this for a living you cannot sell cards for $1.30 shipped in a semi-rigid or even without the semi-rigid. You clear 9 cents on that sale after paying shipping, ebay fees, envelope, semi-rigid and the thermal printer label. Once you count listing time and that most of the cards will never sell you are looking at about $2 an hour and that is if you are fast.

·2 years agoHey, just got my first request for this too and wondering:
1. Do I initiate the return? Or should the buyer make the request to eBay?
2. If I initiate the insurance request, how do I do this?

·1 year agoIs this through USPS or through ebay where you file the damage claim? I just had a customer service rep tell me I had to file through USPS, but I've received such inaccurate information in the past from customer service that I don't know whether to trust this or not. My item was sent by Ebay Standard Envelope fyi. Thanks for any reply!
