eBay Shipping is Absolutely Ridiculous
Summary: switchblade02 expressed frustration with eBay and UPS over a delivery issue with a PS5 order requiring a signature. They encountered obstacles in arranging an alternative delivery method due to eBay's shipping policies and UPS's requirements. Participants highlighted the importance of signature confirmations for high-value items and debated eBay's role in the shipping process. Several users suggested that signing up for UPS My Choice, possibly the premium version, could offer more delivery flexibility. switchblade02 indicated dissatisfaction with the current situation and considered purchasing elsewhere in the future.
This is absolutely ridiculous. I've been an eBay customer since it started, and I've never had an issue like the one I have now. I ordered a PS5, over $1,300 and UPS refuses to hold the package for me. They made 3 attempts to deliver, and of course I'm not available to sign when they attempt to deliver. I don't know how they expect someone to be home during the time they come, I work 6 days a week. I requested to have the package singed and left with a neighbor, UPS didn't, I requested to sign it electronically and just leave it at my door, they didn't. I called UPS directly and they told me that the sender has to put in a request to hold it, so I can come pick it up. I emailed the eBay seller, he told me that eBay is the shipper, not him. I contacted eBay by phone and was told that the seller is the shipper, which I have read is not true when the seller buys the label from eBay. I'm beyond pissed off. It's absolutely ridiculous that someone has to be home to sign, people do have to work to provide, and servive. I've been getting the run around. I just want my darn PS5 already, my kid has been waiting for it. I'm at the point where I don't even want to buy anything again from eBay. Seller said eBay requires a signature for delivery on items over $700. I get that, no problem, but ups not letting me the reciever request to hold the package for me is insane. You have to show ID to pick up, so whats the big deal? If the PS5 is returned to the seller I want a full refund, and I'll buy it elsewhere, from somewhere that doesn't require a signature. If I would have know this was going to happen I would have just bought one from my local store.

·2 weeks agoIn order to do what you wanted UPS to do you must sign up for their UPS My Choice program. Then you can do all the things you wanted.

OP1 week ago · EditedI am a UPS my choice customer. I have a free account though, is their a payed one that unlocks those options?
shire123
·1 week ago@switchblade02 There is a paid one that I have found well worth it. $20 a year. With the paid account you can do all the things I mentioned

·1 week agoI don't pay for mine and I can get them to hold or deliver a package on a certain day as needed. Now I haven't had to do it in awhile, so maybe the rules have changed.
shire123
·1 week ago@mam98031 According to the UPS website the "premium" membership ($20 a year) allows you to change the delivery date and/or address. Those functions cost more if you don't have premium

·2 weeks agoBecause this is a high value item, the Seller put "signature request" because they didn't want UPS to leave it on your doorstep where it could be stolen.
This "signature request" cannot be changed after the fact.

·1 week agoEbay requires signature confirmation on anything over $750 it has nothing to do with what either the buyer or seller want.

·2 weeks agoWhy are you blaming eBay for issues you're having with UPS?
mam98031
·1 week agoLikely because the seller told them that Ebay shipped the item, when in fact we all know that is incorrect. Ebay doesn't actually ship anything as they don't have custody of the items. The seller shipped it using a label they generated on Ebay. That doesn't make Ebay the shipper anymore than if the seller had purchased the label directly at UPS doesn't make UPS the shipper.
switchblade02
OP1 week agoExactly what I thought, and what a eBay rep told me on the phone, until I looked it up online. Turns out when you use the label from eBay it goes on their corporate account which makes them the actual shipper, and they set what options are available for the reciever.

HUH? -- eBay doesn't purchase the label. That is done by the seller, and if he told you the shipper is eBay, that's not true. eBay only sends the seller's money for the label to the shipping service, in this case UPS. Your problem is with your effort to be available for pickup or delivery from UPS, not eBay. Work it out with UPS. I have seen so many times that eBay was the whipping boy for things they are not responsible for.
As for what you "looked up online":
Person A: "If it's on the internet, you can trust it to be true."
Person B: "Oh? Where did you hear that?"
Person A: "On the internet."

OP1 week ago · EditedIt's eBay's corporate UPS account that the label is being purchased though, that is why you get a discount, when purchased on eBay. Because of this eBay sets the parameters on what shipping options are available. If check the tracking for the package it even says Ebay as the senders name, but has the sellers address still..

·2 weeks agoIs there a local depot or somewhere where you can pick it up at a time that works for you? This doesn't sound like a problem with eBay, but with the carrier.
kensgiftshop
·2 weeks agoNo, it's Ebay.
It's Ebays UPS account and they don't allow holds or redirects on packages.
shire123
·2 weeks ago@kensgiftshop Completely disagree with what you have just posted. I have had ebay UPS packages held and redirected many times. But what you need is to sign up with UPS My Choice. You are then given lots of options with how you want the package handled including electronic signatures, changing the delivery date, etc.
switchblade02
OP1 week agoExactly what I read online..

·2 weeks agoMy guess is that it will be hard to find a seller that will ship a $1,300 item in a high fraud category without signature required.
shire123
·2 weeks ago@bashort When you use ebay labels you don't have a choice on signature confirmation. It is automatically added to your label if the value is over $750. And that $750 includes shipping and taxes so that if the item costs only 725 but the shipping and taxes are over $25 you must have signature confirmation.
lakefor94
·2 weeks ago@shire123 as an eBay seller, when buying the label on an order over $750, the seller can uncheck the box for signature conformation.
You are correct on the UPS My Choice, when you have that as a buyer, the buyer can pre-sign for the delivery so they don't have to be there.
switchblade02
OP1 week agoYea, I did the pre sign, but UPS refused to approve it..
shire123
·1 week ago@lakefor94 I guess you can but why void the little seller protections that we have?
lakefor94
·1 week ago@shire123 I have done that before for a couple of buyers that just can't be there to sign. All depends upon the product, the buyer and the location.
switchblade02
OP1 week agoI have no problem with signature required. The issue is that I the receiver should be able to place the package on hold at a local UPS drop off, so I can pick up. You have to show ID to pick up so I don't get what the problem is. Or, I should be able to schedule a drop off time with UPS. They just expect someone to be home all day, which is not possible when working 5 days a week. Am I just supposed to take a sick day and wait for the package arrive?
grann-4629
·1 week agoI suppose they could give you a drop-off time when you will be home IF you are their only customer.
switchblade02
OP1 week ago · EditedI'm not saying for all packages, just ones that require a signature. Or give the reciever the option to pick up in person from a local UPS location. And of course they offer it if your a paying my choice subscriber. Should not be a paid option in my opinion. Or just have schedule delivery a paid option for the convince, but pick up in person as free. This would make more sense..
