I noticed many people are posting about shipping fees - but I could not find my particular issue.
Sold an order, shipping to HI *which might be the problem - but the selling details, the customer paid $9.84 for shipping, but Ebay shipping is telling me over $80?!!?!?!?
I'm not going to pay over $80 for a shipment and NOT get reimbursed. Anyone know what to do?

·1 month agoCorrect me if I'm wrong: I'm thinking were talking about Item #267726035268, "LEGO FRIENDS: Heartlake City Hospital (41394) Complete - Retired Set." This item sold on 7/15/2026 (today) for $22.00.
According to the original listing shipping was flat rate set = $9.74 by way of UPS Ground. Looks like you set the listing to go near World Wide.
According to trusty Google the set originally came in a box measuring 18.9 x 11.1 x 2.4 inches. The total shipping weight of the box is approximately 1.68 lbs.
Using UPS's shipping estimator the cheapest price would be Ground for $81.47. 2nd Day Air would be $119.25. Next Day Air would be $216.17. (I rounded up to 19" x 12" x 3" and 2 lbs).
joshubarne60: You have a relatively low feedback score indicating you are new to selling on eBay. It is apparent that you don't have a strong grasp of how to configure an eBay listing for shipping so as to avoid being raked over the coals.

OP1 month agoFairly new but have sold a bunch, always selected the calculated shipment option. Granted this is my first listing in a while, so don't know if I missed the "flat rate" option, I thought I had selected just the calculator option. I admit I have alot to learn and will take the nice advice to heart and ignore the rude ones. I will be in contact with the seller to work through my mistake. As most know, ebay calculates the shipment info based off previous sales of the same item. I took that suggestion and confirmed all dimensions and weight with my item. I believe this particular instance was not seeing the flat rate, and the fact the buyer is in Hawaii thus inflating the shipping cost.

·1 month agoI'm not sure what there will be to "work through" unless you let the buyer know you're going to cancel the sale for OOS (out of stock).
You aren't allowed to ask the buyer to pay more for shipping than the listing called for. And cancelling will likely upset the buyer and earn you a negative feedback.
I'm not sure where you got that information because it's not true. Ebay (or rather the carrier - UPS/Fedex/USPS) gives you an estimate based on the measurements and the weight of the package that you fill in.

You have received some GREAT information so far on your thread. What would really help is if you would participate in the thread and tell us EXACTLY what YOU entered into the listing about shipping. Weight, size, method etc.
You are in control here. Ebay does not just dream up a price to charge you, they go by what the Seller enters into the listing. Now this is likely an error on your part, but I'm really not trying to point fingers. That doesn't help anything. But if we understand what CAUSED the problem, then you can avoid this from ever happening again. We can all learn from it. I hope you will consider giving us a bit more info.

OP1 month agoI had put in the measurements of the box, but don't remember selecting flat rate - I always set up the listings to allow the customer buying to input their zip code to calculate the shipping cost for them

·1 month agoWhat the customer pays for shipping is totally up to you so it doesn't make sense to compare the two.

In addition to the flat rate shipping you have, you're also shipping with UPS (according to your listing).
Be prepared for "adjustments" for underpayment, way too common with UPS and Fedex. Ebay will charge your account if the carrier assesses extra charges to you because of a weight or dimensional difference between what you paid for and what they measure.
If I were selling and shipping Lego sets, I'd ship with USPS.

·1 month agoHow did you set up the shipping when you listed the item? It looks like a flat rate may have been entered. If so, or if you entered the wrong weight/dimensions when you listed, then the correct amount wasn't charged to the buyer.
What is your box weight and dimensions? Yes, Hawaii will play into the amount you owe due to the distance, but the size of your shipment needs to be correct too.

·1 month agoProbably cause you have "Flat Shipping" assigned to the Listing. It's $9.74 to any Zipcode/Zone. Might want to check your other listings if you want to use Calculated.
