ebay selling fees
Here I am wondering again. If I understand correctly, each time my $1 item re-lists it cost me .35 cents.
Whether I list for 3-5-7-10 or month it's .35.
If item does not sell for for 3 lre-lists, that's $1.05 Fee
I then sells for $1 and Ebay and Paypal take 16% or there abouts ( .16)
My card selling for $1 actually costs me $1.21 or .21 after I get monies.
Then, who ships for actual costs? Sure envelopes helps but some want padded for cheap
How am I a winner?

·2 years agoSellers go through their own thought processes in deciding what is worth selling on Ebay.
My requirement is that I make at least a $5 profit on every item I sell on Ebay.
That requires I do not sell anything which does not bring $8 plus shipping. My product cost is treated as effectively zero because of my buying strategy.
Needless to say, I do not sell only those inexpensive items.
This year by average sale is $25 which is $10 lower than last year. Which means Ebay gets a bigger share of every sale on a percentage basis.
I get multiple item sales, but many more individual sales.
The idea of listing even one $1 item is anathema to me, let alone listing many and hoping for multiple item sales.
Listing an item so common as it has to sell at $1 is about as uninteresting as I can image. I would never want to list if I had to list items at that price.
I understand the need to make such stuff go away if you own it, but I am more likely to consign a big box of such stuff to an in person auction and sell it to an Ebay seller who does not mind engaging in mind-deadening activity.
There are so many interesting items with stories to tell which will bring in more money, try it, you'll like it.

·2 years ago10 years selling here and made profits every year. Long time collector, so , come from a diff place. First, you need a store, like premium as myself, where a 60.00 monthly rent, allows you some 65K cards. When i was buying, would pay 5-8,000 for huge lots of cards(knowing the value of them of course). You develope a plan or strategy as some call; dont sell commons after 1975(worthless). I threw them away or gave to GW. lowest single card i sell in VG cond is 3.00, I paid maybe 5-10c for; 71c for stamp and letter, 30c sell; 36c fee=1.50 net. those type wont get you much, so must have the star cards and vintage cards to sell always. up until 3 years ago, card sells went well, 20-45,00 year! now, last 3 are 6-9K because the economy does not allow "extra" money to invest for average person. the 60 bucks is cheap; can pay that in 2-3 days of sells; it beats what a store would cost-rent, electric, water, security sys and would have to pack a gun and always worry about break-ins(esp in big crime cities who don t even arrest) . i can ship 3 cards for 69c and do up to 20.00. Short answer is; no one wants commons, unless vintage!

·2 years agoforgot one thing-- i ship all cards free! i know each s value and what i would have paid no matter the year. People don t buy lots of com s , they become just junk and you get stuck! i sell cards ive had up since 2016; they cost me nothing. at 6-9k a year, it is now a fun hobby and i still love my cards lol of course, i am retired. if its not fun and not making some bucks== get out now!

OP2 years agoMay I ask please what is your take on grading cards for profit?
A 10 could grade for $100 and a 9 for $4. Similarly a card grade for $1000 and a 9 for $40
I know you have to chaeck comps, yet seems lie you can tie up a lot of money with not a lot of return

·2 years agoWow, yes a Store would save you a fortune in listing fees. And there are other benefits, various account management tools, etc.

·2 years agoMy monthly store is $21.95...items are relisted until sold. No extra fees as such.
My extra fees will be anything "promoted".
I sell items for $1.95....some .99 cents in obtaining buyers who become "repeat buyers" or just getting buyers attention.
I ship for .68 or $1.55 International. No need for tracking for inexpensive items.
Haven't lost anything last year or this year yet.
My "repeat buyers" are my "bread and butter".
I don't do "best offers'...so I don't know if that cost more as well.

Between the my two ebay sights I run I have 3000 items ranging from $2.98 to $2000
I got swallowed up by relisting fees last year and need to know how to reduce costs and increase profits
maybe a store is the answer

·2 years agoYes, after the first monthly 250 free listings ebay gives everyone.
1, 3 day listings are charged $1.00 each time they relist.
Ebay also takes .30 cents for each sold listing on top of the FVF and listing fees. Paypal is not involved.

Why are you charging package shipping on cards under $20? That entire space changed to standard envelope shipping 3 years ago and you are just lighting $3.50 on fire every time you send a cheap card as a package.

·2 years agoI talk about the card market on my youtube channel a lot because it has almost industrywide practices that lose money and make no sense.
I used to be a card specialist. Both on my own account and previously ran the ebay for a big hobby shop so I have experience selling all sorts of cards.
The card people insist that most of their customers order multiple cards, however this assertion is not born out by my own experience, nor the feedback left by any of the accounts making those claims.
I have found the lowest card price point worth shipping out is $2 plus shipping. Note, I said worth shipping out. The card needs to be a sunk cost and already listed to even be worth shipping and pulling at that price. And note, these low dollar cards have sell through rates measured in years, not months. This is why I no longer restock my card store.
I have never met a card seller who timed their listing and pulling process and understood the margins and still kept selling low dollar cards.

Received my 1099 from Ebay and now I understand why Fees so high...astronomically high.
