Why do I have to accept a return because the lady found a better priced item there was nothing wrong with the item I sent her but it was pre-approved by eBay without my knowledge I would like to find out how come I have to take a loss on the sale

·2 years agoIf eBay 'automatically' approved a remorse return, I suspect the OP has 'returns accepted' and automated returns enabled.

·2 years agoDo you get many remorse returns? If so, it is one good reason not to offer free shipping in your listings. (I don't know if you do or not.) That would be a loss, though, since you can't recoup the initial shipping you paid when you refund.

·2 years agoBecause... "found a better price" is much better than a customer stomping on the item, breaking it, so that they can return it and claim it was damaged when received. OR claim item did not work.
OR....as buyers will do. Make the item fit the return policy.
Found a better price means they pay the return shipping (lucky you).
Found a better price means you can re-sell the item once it's returned.

·2 years agoThis happens on occasion and as sellers need to deal with this.

·2 years agoI find that if an item sells once, it will again. When it comes back, list it again... hopefully for the right buyer.

·2 years agoEBAY return system is automated to take control away from Sellers. EBAY doesn't want customer to have a bad experience by having to justify reason for return. If you allow returns (customer can return for any reason including "buyer's remorse". If you don't allow returns...customer can use EBAY Money Back Guarantee (supersedes "no returns") and lie about the reason for return (damaged, not as described, counterfeit). If they do that (seller forced to refund "purchase price + shipping BOTH ways").
When customer opens return using reason "buyer's remorse" (customer pay all shipping costs so you are not out anything). Always better to allow returns otherwise customer will go to credit card company and "reverse payment" (keep BOTH your money and your item).

A seller does not have to have automated returns. It is a tool in which a seller can choose to use or not.
I require an RMA number on all my returns which helps insure I'm notified BEFORE a return is authorized.

·2 years agoHow are you taking a loss?
It's a remorse return so the buyer has to pay the return label plus loses their original shipping. All you have to refund is the item price.

This is only true if the seller has a No Return policy or a 30 or 60 day return policy with buyer pays shipping.
If the seller offers 30 or 60 day Return policy w/ seller pays shipping, AKA Free returns, then they don't have this option to refuse the Buyer Remorse return.
We don't know what return policy the OP has as they haven't responded to the question.

At least the buyer was being honest with you instead of claiming INAD. In that case you would’ve have to pay postage both ways to get the item back. Consider yourself lucky.
Returns are a cost of doing business which you need to factor in your business model.
