    eBay return shipping label cost

    As a Top-Rated seller I offer free returns. eBay provides the return label to the customer and charges my account. I just received an eBay charge for $64.02 for a return label on an item that only cost me about $15.00 to ship to the customer originally. It was for a single model train engine that was not in an oversized box and only weighed about 8 lbs. It was returning from New Jersey to Illinois. What a rip off, eBay charged about $50.00 more than it should have cost. This is the second time this has happened to me, last time they charged me $135.00 for a label on an item that only cost me $30.00 to ship originally. After selling on eBay for almost 25 years and trying to offer the best service I can to my customers, I may have to stop accepting returns because I cannot afford the inflated prices eBay charges for return shipping labels.

    I often get a different size package returned than what I shipped.
    And VERY often, it looks like a monkey packaged it.  That alone will get an udjusted rate upcharge from shipping companies.

    Sounds like a FedEx or UPS surcharge may be at play.  If it were me I'd be looking at the transaction page for any links to the shipment.

    Sounds like they charged you full retail, maybe at Priority rates?  Do what buyselljack recommends.

    Something doesn’t sound right. There’s no way ANY business could function under those rates. Something is amiss.

    I was thinking the same thing. Didn't eBay state in the past that the seller's cost for a return label would never be more than their original shipping cost to send it out?

    @rickerroo

    You can choose to provide your own return shipping label to prevent that.

    eBay was doing some "return service" labels with other than USPS as the carrier but have not heard much about that lately.

    As you offer "free returns" they are accepted automatically, but you can require that returns have an RMA #. That will halt the auto process.

       I know I can go into active listings and bulk edit which return setting I want.
    Can I add the require RMA the same way? Bulk Edit

    Can do for all as a returns policy

    I have mine set mainly so that a return is not auto accepted and sent in the event that I don't want the item back, but did it initially when eBay was putzing around with the "FedEx" returns monkey business.

    Those rates seem to be outrageously inflated, Is there something else contributing to this that you may have left out?
