eBay reps have lied to me for years..
So, I have a seller’s account that was doing wonderfully. Nothing but good reviews, providing good money for eBay.
They got greedy and kept charging my account $$$ for seller subscription after Covid even when I had called to cancel. They told me they would cancel it. Kept charging. Then they told me I had to cancel it myself. I cancel it. They kept charging until my account was removed and there was a negative balance in my account from it.
I have had the account for over 20 years! Wonderful reviews as both seller and buyer. eBay doesn’t care.
They want their crappy $50 and are willing to sacrifice a good seller and customer for it. I have had a rep tell me it was predatory and that she would help. I also had another rep say it would be waved away ( one day ago!) escalate this to “the proper person†who told me they would not charge me any more silly fees… and it was a lie. I keep getting told to go to a phone number to help my account. It’s all just a wild goose chase of lies!
this is why Amazon is crushing eBay. And mark my words, eBay, Amazon will be getting my business and the same seller’s gains that I would have given to you had you simply just stopped lying to me while giving me false hope.
my question is, does eBay truly believe this is a professional tactic? Do you really think, even if people had that money to throw away, they would give it after such blatant lies and disrespect? Would you like this done to you and pay $50 for it?

·10 months agoWhen you initially subscribed to your store, you, like most people, probably didn't read through the Terms and Conditions. Whether you or the customer service person did the cancellation, the early termination fee is 1/3 of the remaining balance. You agreed to that in advance.
Some people eventually embrace self improvement and a sub topic of that is Getting Rid of Old Resentments. Obsessing about a 4 to 5 year old Covid era grudge is not productive for you. Some of those customer service representatives no longer work for eBay and the rest don't remember that ancient history with you.
Would you like this done to you and pay $50 for it?
Yes. I would pay the $50 and then sell 41,000 items lifetime.

Since this has not been mentioned, be aware that if your store subscription is yearly, and you cancel early, eBay charges an early termination fee.

·10 months agoSure looks like you have cancelled everything based on you current profile being empty on FB & listing and a 10.28.2025 member date

OP10 months agoOkay I think I am understanding what might have happened. Because it might be something to do with customer support. It’s quite different.
I think this system of mixed information potentially does not matter to them because they will just send you off regardless to another department where whatever they say does not matter. Even when the error is on their side. And that is unfortunate. People have been complaining about this the further I look into it. I used to really love eBay. So it’s a pity.

To cancel a Store is a task for the Seller to do, NOT Ebay.
https://www.ebay.com/help/selling/ebay-stores/close-ebay-store?id=4091
If you want to close your Ebay account, that is when you ASK Ebay to close the account.
https://www.ebay.com/help/account/changing-account-settings/closing-account?id=4199
You are blaming Ebay for something I doubt they did. It appears you did not process things correctly.
Notice if you have a yearly subscription, there are penalty fees for closing your Store Early.

·10 months agoAmazon is much bigger than Ebay but Amazon is not crushing EBay.
Amazon is in the business of selling brand new, in production, mass market products which are primarily sold by Manufacturer Authorized Resellers, the manufacturer or Amazon itself.
All NEW product is required to have the full manufacturer's warranty.
Used products are permitted only in certain categories.
Amazon destroyed its collectibles and fine arts categories. Many of the seller who sold on Amazon, including myself are selling on Ebay. The collectibles categories required exceptions from Amazon IP protection bots, and Amazon decided they were no longer going to make exceptions because some sellers took advantage.
Confidence in the purchase of new product as genuine and backed by the manufacturer was worth more than the collectibles business to them.
If you have to speak to a customer service rep at Ebay to do what you should do online, you created a situation where you were guaranteed trouble and your departure is probably mutually agreed to be appropriate. Of course, Ebay will not tell you that.
Ebay is what it is, and knowing what it is and whether that suits your needs is for you to know. The other folks on this forum have their own opinions but it seems to me that you have made an appropriate decision in deciding to depart.

·10 months agoI am pretty sure Amazon lies, too.

OP10 months agoSo far they’ve been pretty responsive and helpful. And if I have to cancel, only just once, no need to call for help to be given the run around. 🙂

·10 months agoAre you talking about another type of subscription than a store subscription? Because you say “This was years ago when I was closing my shop […] The subscription thing was new.â€
a.corp._45
OP10 months agoYeah the subscription thing was manually cancelled once I saw they kept taking money, obviously. But they agreed to wave the fees away since the error was on their end. I’m not sure if any of you guys can even help me. I just needed to express this in case anyone else was going through it.
I did see some people noticing that sellers were suddenly “unregistered users†despite having shipped out items, etc. So I just needed a vent. What is the point of recording and record keeping if they don’t even care about facts anymore? Was wondering if anyone saw anything similar. If not, just ignore.

·10 months agoIt's literally a few clicks to cancel a store subscription, but sorry customer service is so unreliable, it can be a problem.
Amazon doesn't sell the same stuff as eBay.
a.corp._45
OP10 months agoThank you for acknowledging the struggles of their customer service.
They keep deleting my responses.
So, defending their recorded/written lies is okay because when their subscription thing was new I had to be psychic and not call them when closing my seller account.
they lied even a few days ago. Saying they’d fix the error but here we are.

·10 months agoThere is a procedure for cancelling your account.
Apparently, you did not. follow that procedure.
a.corp._45
OP10 months agoIt is interesting to me that you did not follow what I read.
I have had the account for over 20 years. The subscription thing was new. Ebay wants to bank on people who get too busy to unsubscribe? Fine. But why did the representatives lie and say they could do it? Only to screw a long term customer who made hundreds of other happy customers? It should be on their recorded lines.
Even recently. I have it on text that I was told I would not be charged any more fees due to the errors and guess what? The account is still under hostage. It’s all a lie and eBay doesn’t really help you to build your brand, anyway.
that they can treat their customers like disposable people they can just lie to hide away their own errors speaks volumes about the kind of company that it is.

·10 months agoI don’t know why you felt the need to have eBay give you a call back to cancel your store subscription when you could have easily did it yourself. eBay reps are basically outsourced and have no ability to do anything with your account. And yes they will tell you what you want to hear to get you off the phone.
If you called a number you found you may have been talking to a scammer because since Covid eBay doesn’t have a number for incoming calls anymore.
To cancel your store subscription you click on the stores tab in your seller hub locate “ manage subscription. The next page will appear as shown below. Click cancel subscription.

OP10 months agoThis was years ago when I was closing my shop. They could have just told me to do it rather than assure me that it would be done.
The subscription thing was new. I’ve had my account for 20 years and that was never ever a thing before. So how was I supposed to know back then?
Are you implying it is okay that I was lied to because it was my fault to not do what we all know to do nowadays with the subscription mania going around? Interesting. Thanks for that.

·10 months agoNot implying that any thing is ok.

OP10 months agoI saw your response implying doubt to an anonymous poster expressing a similar distress a few years back. Hmm…
not everyone knows they have to cancel it twice.
