eBay refunded buyer past the 30 day mark?
I don’t know what just happened. A buyer asked for a refund which I contacted eBay and talked to someone about. They ruled in my favor.
a few days ago the buyer opened another case asking for a refund. I declined it as it was past the 30 day mark. Item was bought on March 30th.
eBay ruled in the buyers favor and took money from me. What the heck? I thought it was a 30 day return policy. It’s been almost two months.
plus this was already a resolved case before.
what gives?

·1 year agoThe buyer can do a credit card charge back up to 180 days. eBay has no control or any thing to do with that.

·1 year agoMaybe I'm hearing this wrong.... If they opened the request BEFORE the 30-days, but you didn't respond until AFTER the 30-days was over, then they are entitled to a refund.

·1 year agoEBAY Money Back Guarantee only allows refund 30 days from "delivery" date. Credit card chargeback allows 6 MONTHS to get your money back.
Sounds like customer filed a 2nd case with their credit card company (because EBAY won't allow 30-day refund). Credit card usually rules in favor of their customer and them to keep both item + your money. This is one of the pitfalls of selling online.

·1 year agoWhen did they receive the item?
They have 30 days from the time they received it to file for a return.

OP1 year agoThey got it on April 5th. What’s bizarre is they opened a case on an item I have for sale on my store

·1 year agoIf they didn't buy the item, there's no way they can file for a return/refund.
What is the item number?

Was this the item they originally purchased and asked for a refund on? It was sold Mar 30, so it would make sense they could have received on Apr 5.
The item number is the 12-digit number in the URL at the top of the web browser.

You relisted that on Apr 6, but it hasn't sold, so they can't have opened another request from the new listing. It has to be related to the original listing. Why did you relist that item, a week after it was sold and shipped?
Please show us the item number for the case that was just decided for the buyer today, May 22. Or, the selling price.
The refund amount of $17.63 works for the first listing (selling price $12.25 plus shipping $5.83 = $17.63 total) but not for the current listing (selling price $15.00 + $5.83 = $20.83 total).
So I think what must have happened is, you actually were supposed to refund the buyer for the first case, but for some reason, the refund was not made, or did not go through. So eventually, the buyer complained to eBay, who had to issue the refund for you. Now eBay is going to collect the refund amount from you.

OP1 year agoGood question I’m not sure if they did chargeback. They picked an item in my store and did the refund request on that

You are saying 2 different things.
The person didn't pick something from your store and get a refund, they bought an item.
Do you offer refunds? It says you agreed to a refund but didn't issue it.
What day did the buyer ask for a refund?
And what type of refund?
Buyer remorse, not as described or other?
