Ebay "Recommended Price"
I recently noticed that on the listing page, next to where you enter the price Ebay has a "recommended price". The item I'm currently listing is about half of that recommended price. How reliable is that price, and do any of you use it when arriving at your own price? I usually take an average of the sold items to come up with mine, so I was just wondering if that recommendation is helpful or if you usually ignore it and use your own system for pricing.

·Sep 6, 2026 at 10:29 PMIf you are selling a single item with a UPC, eBay's recommended price is usually reliable because the data matches that exact product.
If you are selling items without a UPC, vintage and used items, the recommendation is not reliable.
The system cannot see the actual condition, flaws, or completeness of your item. It also doesn't calculate the correct value when you sell multiple items together in a lot.

·Sep 6, 2026 at 10:02 PMI recommend ignoring it. It is rarely true and it doesn't distinguish between new and used item in my experience. It isn't anything you really need to consider. I ALWAYS do my own research when pricing items.

·Sep 6, 2026 at 9:52 PMIt's amusing to look at eBay's suggestion, but my prices depend on supply/demand and how my items stack up to the comps.

eBay's Averaging calculates a baseline by grouping completely different listings together, such as combining flawless items with broken goods or standalone accessories.

·Sep 6, 2026 at 9:42 PMCompletely unreliable. Do your own research to find out what your item might sell for.
When I list my things that "recommended" price is in the ballpark only about 20% of the time. Sometimes much lower. sometimes much higher.

OPSep 6, 2026 at 9:50 PMThat's what I was thinking when I saw the gap between the "recommended price" and my price. Thank you for confirming that.
