Ebay Q2 Sales Volume Actually down more than 1%
Ebay reported gross sales volume Q2 was only down 1% but:
With high inflation and higher prices Ebay's sales volume is actually in real time sales down 10%.
I am not saying Ebay was the cause of lower sales as inflation, higher food and gas prices was part of the reason, but the truth is the actual year to year Q2 sales was down over 10% taking in account high inflation.

·3 years agoI had mentioned this is a response to another post and was crucified by a number of responders. The simple fact is GMV is but one indicator of a company's performance and potential growth, stagnation or decline. That has to be weighed against other factors like shareholders actual ROI on the stock and dividend payments. Many companies have a stagnant or roller coaster GMV but are doing fine based on other factors. I invest in the market heavily and give minimal weight to the GMV compared to other measures.
Most investors are aware that the GMV is generally inflated, no pun intended, but can actually formulate what the GMV is when adjusted for inflation and other factors. Wall Street had predicted a downturn in ecommerce volume post Covid and pretty much nailed it. What they did not see coming was a recession, despite Washington refusing to acknowledge we are in one, tacked on top of it.

·3 years agoQ2 numbers are what they are. How can you start figuring in a set of numbers that have zero impact on their results and no one adjust their reporting numbers to the IRS nor shareholders in inflated terms. All of the pricing are real time meaning whatever they purchase for whatever reason has the inflated prices in them, it's a fixed cost. We can play that game with everyone on the stock market. Every year prices increase to some extent so comparing a cost from one year to the next is meaningless (on an IRS report) except for the fact it does provide a trend for adjusting a selling price etc. specifically for internal reviews. It boils down to overall sales & profits.
