eBay Pushing Coupon Participation, A Play on Promoted Listings?
I have received a few Messages from eBay regarding Participating in a "10% Coupon Event" for Auto Parts Category:
We’re excited to extend an exclusive invitation to participate in our upcoming 10% off coupon event for Auto Parts & Accessories, a high-visibility promotion offered only to select sellers. Along with the discount, we’ll be giving your listings an extra visibility boost across eBay, helping you attract more buyers and drive stronger sales during this key shopping period.
Coupon offer details
- Dates: February 11 (5:00am PST) – February 26 (11:59pm PST) - 16 days
- Share: 70% seller funded / 30% eBay funded
- Offer: 10% off, no minimum spend, with a $75 max discount per transaction. Buyers can use the coupon up to two times.
- Eligible categories:
- Auto Parts & Accessories (Cat. ID 6028)
- Automotive Tools & Supplies (Cat. ID 34998)
eBay will handle all on-site and off-site marketing, including banners, email outreach, push notifications and more, bringing additional traffic directly to your listings.
How the coupon works
The coupon can stack on top of your existing promotions, so please consider your current sales and advertising budget.
Example
- An item priced at $100 is purchased
- Buyer pays $90 with the coupon
- You still receive the full $100 sale amount
- Final Value Fees apply to the $100
- After the promotion ends (and post-return window), you will be invoiced for your funded portion of the coupon
The way I understand it, as it is not clear about the FVF portion (Assuming No Sales Tax for Simplicity):
$100 Item with 10% Coupon Sells for $90
I receive $100
I am charged 13.6% FVF on Full $100 ($13.60 in this Example)
I am then charged 7% of the 10% Coupon Amount ($7 in this Example)
So Selling Costs on this item come to $20.60
Whereas if I just ran a 10% Sale:
Item sells for $90
13.6% FVF is $12.24
Selling Costs $12.24
To me this just seems like a play on Promoted Listings since eBay says they will "be giving your listings an extra visibility boost across eBay". But if they are still charging FVF on the full $100, it's essentially just running a PL at roughly 7-9% instead. And which would show up higher in rankings, running the Coupon Event or a PL?
Unless I am misunderstanding something here.

Its just a Co-op marketing.
