eBay prevented me from listing an item yet there are several identical items listed right now!
I just tried to list a DeRoyal Jetstream hot cold therapy unit. The system said that it is a prohibited item, as it is a medical device that requires a prescription. I had no idea it required a prescription; I was given this item by a family that was cleaning our their home before a move. It just looks like a regular home care device to me.
What is infuriating is that there are currently 10 listed RIGHT NOW on eBay and 7 that sold in the last 90 days. I figured that since there were several of these items for sale on eBay (and that sold), they were fine to sell. Now, I find out that they are not fine to sell, even though people are being allowed to list them for sale right now. Grrr....
I contacted eBay help and the agent said that there are many items listed all the time and they can't review all of them instantly but they will get to them. This is ridiculous as they should have been prevented from listing immediately when they first tried to list the item (like I was). Since their system evidently CAN identify health devices that require a prescription, why doesn't the system just not allow that item to be listed? That would save them a lot of time... and sellers a lot of time who don't know they have a prohibited item.
I made a draft of this item several months ago and delayed finishing my listing so I could test the item and make sure it worked. Why couldn't eBay tell me then that it was a prohibited item? I wouldn't have wasted my time testing the unit, taking pictures and writing a description!!!

·8 months agoThere are other places you can list it where it won't be taken down.
Also, if that is like most of the things like that then the bottom is just like a plastic cooler and everything that breaks or does anything is attached to the top. People have much less trouble just selling the top as a replacement part.
In any case, don't try to relist it here, the bots are looking for you to do that at this point.

·8 months agoIt happens all the time. Bots are just that and actually they are not too smart. Years ago I was told by a “reputable†physician that I had lymphedema. My heart sank and my insurance approved this $8000 suit from this company https://tactilemedical.com
I did my research and found out this was a sloppy diagnosis and fortunately I didn’t have anything. it had only been used a couple of times and I didn’t know I couldn’t sell it on eBay because of the prescription thing, so I listed it and sold it. that was before AI because such a big deal. periodically I look around and see them..Usually the sellers have put them in the wrong category or sell them in parts and they don’t get caught.
I agree that it is the sellers responsibility..I shouldn’t have been able to list it. the system is flawed.

·8 months agoYou would think bots could pick it up pretty easy.
Some sellers get by, by listing in categories bots doesn't look at.

With 1.5 billion listings, eBay's policy enforcement is not always comprehensive, timely or accurate. But that does not provide you with a loophole to list a prohibited item.
eBay works the way it works. IMHO getting angry because eBay doesn't work the way you think it should is just wasting your emotional energy.

·8 months agoYou are confusing your responsibility as a seller to determine whether your items can legally be sold with Ebay's responsibility for keeping this marketplace safe.
Ebay assumes that sellers know what they are selling and the legality of selling them. Ebay does not have the equivalent of Amazon's formal pre-approval process which qualifies sellers to offer items, and most Ebay sellers are pleased that it doesn't.
Ebay is not your mommy. Sometimes, Ebay is the cop on the beat.
