Ebay NEVER sides with Sellers!
I sold a vintage record player. I showed a video of it not working and in the video I stated the motor is not turning the platter and it needs repair so I am selling it for parts. In my auction description I also stated that, " I am selling it in 'as is' condition, not working , for parts, and with no return." The buyer takes apart the turntable, removes the motor and says he could not fix it because the motor was bad ! In his return case he says, "not as described and that I knowingly sold a motor that was not repairable." ( I am not an electronics repairman). The buyer even took a photo of the motor REMOVED from the turntable. SINCE WHEN AM I AS A SELLER RESPONSIBLE FOR WHETHER A PERSON CAN REPAIR SOMETHING I SOLD FOR PARTS? The buyer voided any warranty between seller/buyer as soon as he took apart the turntable. Ebay sided with the buyer!!!!!! I lost $32 in shipping both ways! THis is the 3rd time this year Ebay has done this to me with buyers having remorse and they just don't care!

·9 months agoAs others stated you must state condition "Not working for parts." If you state used then that would be considered "not as described." Even if you state "Not working for parts" the buyer can still return the item. So YES you are responsible for your listing. Find another buyer to purchase this item who could use this for parts. If you insist on selling stuff "As-Is" no returns at all which is all sales are final then you may want to consider not listing stuff which do not work.

·9 months agoDid you use the eBay approved Condition description in the item specifics section of your listing as "For parts or not working: The item does not function as intended and is not fully operational. " This includes items that are defective in ways that render them difficult to use, items that require service or repair, or items missing essential components. See the seller's listing for full details.". Terms like "As is" etc. doesn't hunt in the eBay world. ·9 months agoI will say this before I go into suggestions, it is always the items that require assembly or repair / parts only that I experience the most problems with, some buyers out there have no business being near tools and items needing repair / assembly...
That said I looked at your listing, and the two things I would change are the returns policy to Accept Returns 30 days, and apply a solid amount of "less is more" to the description.

·9 months agoBad Sellers ruin it for Good Sellers. I see Ebay sellers selling stuff with an Amazon LPN with the Defect photographed and listed as New. I laugh
At least have a test bench and have some basic diagnostic tools.
They are Oblivious to the Category they're selling an item in. Flipping Floppers I call them. They will list items I would normally throw in the trash.
I'm not Immune either. Once i sold a Car Computer and it was sent back as bad. I shipped it out for repair, paid 100 if i remember and sold it again. Never came back after that.
Imagine a seller selling an AC Motor as new and the shaft doesn't even turn or they haven't bench tested it 😠lol flipping floppers

·9 months agoIf I sell something as broken/not working and the buyer receives and it is fully functional, can they return it as "not as described"? 😉

You are incorrect.
They do side with sellers.
Depends on the situation.

·9 months agoThere are so many issues here apparently with items listed as "broken, not working" that, if I were still selling, I would not ever list anything that isn't fully functional. It seems like no buyers read the part about not working, or maybe they think it's just some little thing and they have the smarts to fix it when the seller evidently couldn't.

·9 months agoEbay cannot protect you from all of the ills in the world. "Stuff" happens. It's not always going to be perfect.
If your business cannot absorb a $32 loss, then maybe selling online isn't for you. Lots of good 9 to 5 jobs out there, just saying 🙂

·9 months agoDid you put in the 'title' Parts Only...Not Working?
And I am wondering why you want a return for something taken apart and pay for return shipping?
I would just block the buyer.

·9 months agoI agree with you that EBAY should change their policy on "not working/for parts only" items. It is ridiculous that customers can return items using reason "does not work".

·9 months agoIf you are talking 3 times in 2025- par for the course.
If you sell broken things, expect it as the 30 Day MBG is strong.
Curious; ebay was supposed to change the amount of time a buyer has to open a return case with items listed in the 'for parts'...to 3 days after delivery. Was it?
