eBay needs more safeguards for listing items at a low price

Recently, I'm not sure what's going on, but sometimes when I'm listing items now on PC, the price is somehow defaulting to $1 - this was never happening before. I ended up selling a copy of a Complete game for Playstation 2 for $1, mind you I give free shipping, so I ended up paying the buyer $3 and they got to keep the game. The Pricing was suppose to be $10.

eBay needs a safeguard where if the price is absurdly low like this that it blocks or warns you from posting the item. I recently had this happened to 3 or 4 other items, but caught those before anyone could buy the item. My two questions are A) Why is there a default to $1 happening? and B) Why doesn't eBay have a system that asks/verifies you that you're putting the correct price? On Mercari they have this feature where it'll tell you that the price is "too low". Please consider implementing something like this. Luckily for me that games price margin was low, and I didn't even realize it sold that cheap until after I received Feedback.

I have been selling for a long time and I have found over the years that the IT "glitches" are frequent and common place with eBay. I have had the situation you described happen as well but I always review my active listings after I have posted and I generally catch them and correct them. Even if eBay were to implement a change like you suggested I would put little faith in it working consistently and reliably.

    @reddragon662   Type-O on your part would be my first guess ... $ 1.00 instead of $ 10.00 ...

I think ebay should make the default $1,000 instead of $1.

That way the sellers will make more money.

They like it when a buyer can find a good deal, it's keeps them coming back for more.

As far as the seller loosing money, they don't care, they still get their share.

Never seen a dollar default. Are you using existing listing library to "sell a similar item"?

Not a bad option. I'd be down with a slider that says "Warn before listings items with a total cost lower than First Class shipping".

I had a similar case where I listed something for 5.99 with free shipping. I intended to have the buyer pay actual shipping. But I ate a few bucks on that one. Oh well.

You'll eventually learn to be more careful, or you'll go broke 😛

I am indeed using a Sell a Similar Item, but I was also doing this the last couple of years, it just seems to have become very common in the last Month or two.

The First Class Shipping thing would be an awesome way to go, or heck any shipping option where your item is lower priced than the shipping cost when you do free shipping.

Thanks for the response, I appreciate it!

Always go and check your listing after you hit the list button.  I like to put a starting time.  Always go to scheduled listings and quickly look over everything.   I too have had Ebay somehow change the starting price.  I actually had an auction start at 99 cents in the middle of day.  I guess, I hit list instead of save for later.  There was no description either.   This was supposed to be a draft and somehow the title became the description.

Ebay does NOT to prevent the exact title from becoming the description.  Anyway,  pay extra attention if you list using a tablet. Sometimes, your finger can hover over a number and the tablet will use that number as the starting price.

Thanks for the response, it's just weird that this has become an issue recently. I've been selling on eBay for about a decade and this is the first time these things started happening to me.

It's still a great Platform but everyone can always improve, and I'm sure this is a simple Programming change - thanks again.

Wouldn't the best thing in your situation be to ALWAYS check over the listing at least once before finalizing it? Or maybe twice?
