eBay Live auctions
Summary: ten_o_nine expressed curiosity about the monitoring processes during eBay Live auctions. They raised concerns about the quick pace of auctions potentially allowing counterfeit items or policy violations to slip through. They inquired whether eBay employs real-time automatic monitoring or relies on reports from members and viewers, especially after a sale. Additionally, ten_o_nine questioned how content standards are upheld during live broadcasts, particularly regarding close camera interactions with models. They clarified their intention to learn more about eBay's monitoring methods without criticizing any specific participants.
I applied and got approved to sell on eBay Live after completing the training, so I started watching some of the auctions and, oh my, I have some questions.
Since some items on eBay Live may only be up for bidding for a very short time, sometimes just a few seconds, how does eBay have enough time to review or catch a possible counterfeit item or VeRO violation before it sells?
Is there some kind of automatic monitoring happening in real time during the Live auction, or does eBay mainly rely on members, rights owners, or viewers reporting the item?
And if a questionable item sells before anyone has time to report it, does eBay review Live auction sales afterward for possible violations?
I’ve also noticed that some Live sellers use models to show clothing, with the models changing into and trying on different dresses during the broadcast. At times, the camera interaction can become very close and personal, with presenters or models putting their faces very close to the camera.
That made me curious about the other side of Live monitoring. Are eBay Live broadcasts monitored for appropriate content and presentation standards while they are happening, or are those situations also mostly dependent on viewers reporting something?
I’m not criticizing the use of models or accusing any particular seller or auction of doing anything wrong. I’m simply trying to understand how eBay monitors both the merchandise being sold and the content of a Live broadcast when everything is happening so quickly and in real time.
