eBay lied to me cost me $300
We had a buyer purchase an item, they admitted on messages they purchased the wrong item Then they filed a Not as described. ebay told us to send a call tag and they would cover it no issues. They stated buyer misused the system They told us to refund them and shipping would be covered. Immediately after we refunded ebay closed case and said zero shipping would be covered Just a flat out LIE

·8 months agoFirst- you are not required to refund until you receive the item back.
Second- the phone reps do not work for eBay, they work for a call centre in Utah,
Third- your loss is a business expense and should be deducted when you do your income tax.

OP8 months agoI love when they say a business expense. An expense is a supply, this is a loss due to Fraud. I was told one thing, then it was not honored.

·8 months agoThat cases like this will occur when you sell products with an enormous shipping cost is predictable.
That when you listed to an Ebay Customer Service rep and believe him, the result is also predictable.
Selling automotive wheels online requires that you plan for these occurrences and price with an allowance to cover a share of these bad transactions with every sale.
It hurts every time this happens, but you are not a noob and have made enough sales that you must be profiting in spite of the occurrences. It feels good to vent.

OP8 months agoYea, but eBay had stated to us that they obviously make and have made huge money off our account, and would cover it. When you are told directly by eBay (John) that there would be no issue to cover it, then they do not, this is FRAUD on eBays part.

Have you thought of offering free returns regardless of the buyers reason. I have it on all of my listings to avoid getting false INAD returns and the dings to my selling account with eBay. Also, it avoids making buyer's lie in order to return something for free. Buyers are expecting free returns these days whether sellers like it or not.
I just build the costs of returns into my item prices like other businesses do.

OP8 months agoMy items are heavy and very expensive to return. On a buyer remorse it would literaly make me lose $300-400 each time

What's a calling tag?

A call tag is when you request the carrier to pick up a package, and the carrier prints the label and sticks it onto the package when they pick it up from the person returning it.

·8 months agoYes, sounds like EBAY rep totally lied to you. EBAY return system is automated and when you refund the customer, the case will automatically close. Below is EBAY policy.
A buyer falsely claims an item was not as described
When you report the buyer and we determine the buyer made a false claim:
Ensure you have completed the return and issued a refund to the buyer. You can also use the Report buyer option within the return request.

OP8 months agoYep, they said it would automatically close, but not to worry about it, that a supervisor could correct it and change this.

·8 months agoDid you refund before the item was returned with the "call tag"?
Making a refund would close the case.

OP8 months agoOn the phone, and they stated it would be in the permanent record. When asked for a message follow up, they stated they could not do that. I filed against them with a mediation company they use now.
