ebay is showing a misleading coupon discount on my listings, confusing customers, is this a glitch?
I recently started a coupon for $25 off of $100+ and ebay is showing an applied discount to all items using the $25 off.
for example, i have an item listed for sale for $29.99.
the coupon text is clearly written out in red saying "$25 off of $100+" above the listing, but under the listed price it says "$4.99 with coupon code" and a suggestion that this is how much the item will cost without any reference to the $100 threshold.
within a couple days of starting this coupon i have already had a cancelled order due to customer feeling misled and several other messages from multiple shoppers asking why the discount isn't applying at checkout.
i thought it was just someone not paying attention but it has now kept happening and when i look at listings on my computer i can see how it would be confusing and on my phone app it is even more confusing as the discount price is highlighted in green and appears before the red text talking about the coupon further below.
i am curious if this is a new glitch or if this normal for other sellers when using a $X off $X+ type coupons?
if it is a glitch it would be great if it could be fixed ASAP, otherwise i am going to end my coupon, as it is wasting my time on messages and just ticking off customers.

·7 months ago2/8/2026 - I had five listings I recently ended on eBay due to them being GREEDY! All five listings were Buy It Now. I have two accounts with eBay, one strictly for buying and the other strictly for selling. I signed out of my selling account and went into my "buying" account just to view my listings. Come to find out a large worded banner showed right under my asking price stating: "Use this coupon and get $10 off this item." It then showed the coupon wording to use that was a list of letters in all caps. This banner also states something like, "if you would like to know how, please click here -- and it shows a business named: KLARNA. In case you have never heard of this business, here is the info: Klarna is a Swedish financial‑technology company that provides buy now, pay later (BNPL) services.
People use it to split purchases into installments, pay later, or finance items through partnered retailers.
Key points:
• Used widely in online shopping
• Offers interest‑free installment plans (depending on retailer and region)
• Acts as a payment processor and consumer credit provider
This tells me that eBay has some type of contract with Klarna that allows buyers to BUY NOW AND PAY LATER... just like a credit card business.
MY story gets even better. My asking price for this item was $159.99. Klarna showed buyers they could get $10 off my listing (as long as they signed up for Klarna). Then Klarna gave a breakdown of the transaction ending with "this is what you will pay" and gave amount. This is shown below:
Actual price: $159.99
Less Klarna Coupon - 10.00
Your price: $149.49
LOOK... there is 50 cents missing! 99 cents minus 00 = .99 I am not making this up! Total buyer would pay should have reflected $149.99 not $149.49. So if a buyer chooses to sign up for Klarna and pays $149.49, I, as the seller is actually paying eBay or Klarna 50 cents! I have lost 50 cents! I know 50 cents may not be much money to some people, but it is just another stab of big business being greedy. If you think about it, this is REAL sneaky, underhanded on both parties, eBay and Klarna. I wish I had a photo as proof, but when I ended all five listings, I rechecked the ended listing, and magically the Klarna banner disappeared....

Cancel it!. It is very misleading. I did a 20% off promotion on all my inventory and it took 3 days to include everything

OP7 months agobased on what you are saying it says, that is actually clear and correct, as the coupon is for $25 off a purchase of $100+ - can you explain why you feel that is misleading?
i'm talking about the estimated price that ebay is showing, making it look like it is $25 off any purchase no matter the amount. are you saying that is why you choose to only do a straight % off promotion?

When I see the price with coupon code as 2.79 that appears misleading. EBay can do it anyway they want, I was responding to the OP. When I have purchased from a seller before that had one of those type of promos, it didn’t show some LOW price “with couponâ€. I would only see in my cart and it would say “add XXX to take advantage of the codeâ€â€¦ Look at this picture That tells me the price is 8.95 which is incorrect. that is an error and misleading.

OP7 months agothank you for clarifying - that's why i am wondering if this is a new thing/glitch where it is showing the discount price erroneously on the listing instead of just showing the information in the cart as you say. thanks for helping me out.
