eBay is putting false information about import fees/duties on my listings
eBay added this warning to my listings for US buyers as I'm in Canada:
"Due to US customs policies, the buyer of this item will need to pay import fees to the shipping carrier prior to delivery."
This is 100% false as my products are made in Canada and therefor exempt of tariffs under USMCA, I also use Delivery Duties Paid (DDP) postage which guarantees the receiver will have no fees to pay.
I asked if I can at least add something like "These products are exempt of tariffs under USMCA and there will be no import fees despite any possible warning by eBay"
And they said I'm not allowed to add that. So they can put blatant lies, even saying buyers "will", not "may" have import fees to pay, yet I can't correct this false information in my description?

To claim duty-free treatment under USMCA, merchants must first verify their product’s eligibility based on the HTS (Harmonized Tariff Schedule). If they manufacture the goods, they need to confirm that production aligns with the USMCA requirements. If they are resellers or distributors, they must obtain proof of origin from manufacturers.
Once eligibility is confirmed, the shipment must include proper documentation. This includes nine specific data elements outlined in USMCA Annex 5-A, such as certifier details, importer and exporter information, and a clear declaration of origin. The latest Cargo Systems Messaging Service notifications on USMCA exemptions outline that to qualify the invoice must include HTSUS classification 9903.01.04. This is for both Mexico and Canada if importing into the United States.
All information must be provided electronically on an invoice or other document.

OP7 months agoI do have the actual exemption and my imports are in fact tariff free, it's just eBay saying there are import fees despite this.
They said they are working on a way to declare tariff free shipments soon.

·7 months agoNo they are not, they want to induce you into their lousy EIS system where they will claim everything will be roses.
FYI - There are thousands of Canadian Sellers (other countries as well) that are including the type of notification you are asking about, the ones I know added it to their descriptions in September, none are getting any flack from eBay. They are getting confused buyers who don't know who to believe.

The phone reps are subcontracted to a company in Utah. Mostly they want you to get off the phone so they can get a pee break.
You will get better advice on this by going to eBayCanada.
Also with eBaydot CA you can use the eIS shipping program recently introduced which collects any tariffs directly from the US buyer, unlike Canada Post which will charge you a service fee and a percentage of the tariff in partnership from Zonos, which contributed to the Republican presidential campaign.

I also do not sell to the US from eBay.ca, only from eBay.com.
There are no tariffs at all on my products as they are made in Canada and are USMCA compliant, neither I nor the buyer pays any tariffs.
I also do not use Canada Post as their prices are beyond insane and they threaten to go on strike every other week, I'm DONE with Canada Post, I use Chit Chats which ships for a fraction of the cost and were ready to deal with USMCA compliant/tariff free shipments almost immediately so I or my buyers never had any tariffs to pay.
eBay told me they are working for an option for tariff-free shipments.
