eBay is a rip off. Sold $10k in collectibles of sports cards and have $5K in the bank. What a joke.
Nobody should make a percentage off something you paid and are now selling. eBay has become a joke and I have a high feedback score since 2011 but what good does that do now that o get on here to sell years later and get took to the cleaners for selling things I paid just as much for. Then they started this promoting crap. I’m over it. Someone please come back out with a yard sale market place app friendly for sellers please. What a joke.

·6 months agoIf I had a card to sell that I was hoping to sell for a million dollars, I wouldn't sell it directly on eBay. I would probably contact Goldin Auctions as that is what they do: sell high dollar sports items and collector cards. Actually, eBay now owns Goldin Auctions so technically still eBay but I would feel safer going through them as I think they know a lot of people who are looking to buy these high end things and money seems to be no object. JMHO

·6 months agoYou have sold some interesting high priced cards and a load of cards which barely moved from their 99 cent starting bid.
As well as having promotion costs those cheap cards affect your overall profit because of the small fixed fee which you pay per sale.
It is likely that the promotional fees were needed for some of your listings where there were other offers for those cards but not the rest. Not promoting the crap would have saved you money, but Ebay has remedied that.
Cut out the promotion and see what that yields in sales. Stop listing the low priced cards and see what that yields. You will probably see a greater profit.
As for feedback, many buyers no longer bother to read it or leave it. Hence, Ebay has implemented automatic FB which ups the count but no one reads.

We assume because it has a high selling cost plus maybe some sort of promoting it hits at the top of the list of the category of trading cards.
Interesting concept...as how to perhaps get more window shoppers which a lot of other sellers do to get notice.
Not debating this...but I doubt we get millionaires buying items on eBay for million dollar items.
You would be better off selling it from an auction house where the house cut is 20%...if it is worthy of the price.

Nobody will make a percentage off something you paid for and are now selling, unless you let them.
There are plenty of ways to sell an item with no fees. You just won't get access to eBay's 125+ million buyers.

·6 months agoThere is no joke here. Whenever I list an item I calculate what my fees are and charge accordingly. You might not be aware of it but first off if you use "Promote listing" you are paying high in fees. So yes your gross and profit will be significantly reduced. Also know that Ebay takes fees from Item + Shipping cost + Sales tax. So with promotional listing and other charges yes if you were to sell a $10K item you would only receive $5K. Guess what you agreed to it. So I would advise you to increase what you charge for the item. Don't use promote listing. You could also try selling locally but who knows if you will sell the item locally at what price you want cause buyers don't want to pay market value locally they want to give you half like in this case $10K item for $5K.

Do you think you should be able to sell for free? You have never been able to sell for free on eBay.

If you did not sell on here for several years and then came back to selling, a lot has changed over the years. A high feedback score will help buyers have confidence in you but has nothing to do with what you pay for items or what your selling fees are.

If you paid to have your items promoted, depending on what you chose, those promotion fees can eat you up. You do not have to pay for promotion and if you choose high promotion, this is your choice. You might want to reassess your choices.
No one is forcing you to sell here but you appear to be doing very well, much better than you would on other selling venues and I'm sure you are very aware of that. You just might want to take a look at how you are selling, i.e. those promotion fees, etc. Doing away with high promoting should bring your selling fees down to about 13-15%.

·6 months agoIf you are counting your shipping rates as part of your profit, it's not. It's a fee and when your items sell for less than that fee then yes, a lot comes off the total. Also a heavy fee is using a large PL, you don't have to do that. Your fees in collectibles should be about 13-15%, not 50 which is huge...

·6 months agoDo what I do. Make 1,000 dollars at Ebay. Head down to the Casino and turn that 1K into 5K. lol Turn that Frown Upside Down.
The only negative in my MMS is that you can lose that 1K. 😂
