Ebay hiding listings...
I have heard theories of Ebay's promoted listings and other consistent algorithm changes hiding listings and entire stores which seemed almost unbelievable until today:
One of the my items is a more unique niche product, there are less than 600 listings of the same or similar items on Ebay (that I can currently see up for sale 'unhidden') and I have nine of those in my store.
I saw an ad outside of Ebay of someone seeking the exact item I have listed and when I messaged them the link to my listing to purchase the item they mentioned that they had previously searched Ebay for the exact item, yet never saw my listing. If you narrow the listings down by color, mine is 1 of 167 items, yet they some how could not find my listing...?
I have had listings take 24+ hours to show up and other issues aside from this instance.
Am I the only one having this poor experience?
Something, maybe logic, tells me if all stores had proper search results & exposure that more items would not only sell making Ebay more money, but they would also show up more in Google & other search results more promptly bringing more traffic to Ebay organically?

·1 year agoWhile it it true that eBay states in the UA that there are times they may hide a listing, I doubt that's what happened in this case. This is secondhand info, OP was not there when the user did their search. Their are MANY different ways they could have limited their search w/o even realizing it. Chances are excellent that the searcher was not a reliable narrator of their exact search terms & frankly, the discussion likely never got that detailed anyway.
If OP would care to enlighten us with search terms, I'm sure several of us would be happy to check.

·1 year agoAnd it seems to me that eBay circulates those two billion listings through a cycle both of time and of location.
So if you list today August 3, your item will drop in Search day by day as new listings come up until they are just about to close when they will be shown more often.
Also if you sell anything, the rest of your listings get a tiny boost.
And if it sells in Peoria, then your listings will get a boost in Peoria.
It's like tides-- but there are five moons.

Have you ever taken the time to read through the User Agreement we all have to agree to in order to use this site? You really should if you haven't. They tell you in the UA that there are times that your listings may be hidden for a variety of different reasons. Not that it happens very often, but it can and does happen.

Ebay does not run on real time posting of new listings. It is known that it can take up to 24 hours for new listings to appear as the system has to re-index. It happens to ALL OF US.
You need to think outside of the box a little here. Your listings are the only ones that need to be shown to potential buyers. Ebay is dealing with 1.5 - 2 BILLION active listings. Depending on the search the buyer puts in, often times Ebay just can't display everything to that buyer, it is simply too much and extremely over whelming.

·1 year agoIf they searched lowest price then that may be why they didn't see it. eBay "streamlines" the search total when searching lowest price first omitting many many items, and often there is no "see all" tap to click to see total listings.

·1 year agoIf exposure to more items would mean eBay's making more money, then why would eBay willfully hide items?

OP1 year agoWhen items don't sell they push sellers to use or increase their promoted listings and other paid promotions. More money out of sellers means less buyers have less of an affect on Ebay's profits.

·1 year agoI've never really understood why some sellers feel this way. Ebay suggests or recommends all kinds of things on this site. They are NOT "push[ing]" sellers to comply. They are suggesting and nothing more than a suggestion. The seller is free to adhere or try the suggestion or ignore it. There is NO requirement to comply. There is no penalty for not complying.
If you don't like the suggestion, ignore it and move on.
