eBay has betrayed the trust of the American People
Banning or burning books is unamerican and hypocritical; eBay is essentially burning books through their censorship policies. I believe their actions violate the spirit of the constitution and the 1st amendment. I am ashamed that I ever associated with a company that obviously believes that they have the right to determine what the American people can know and think. Thankfully, this is a problem that I can remedy. Fascism is never an acceptable option - private or public.

·1 year agoThe "spirit of the Constitution" is most decisively in the eye of the beholder and is thus empty rhetoric.
And using the word "fascism" in this context -- also empty rhetoric -- suggests a rather incomplete understanding of history.
If I was running a big corporation like eBay, I'd take every conceivable precaution necessary to protect myself from potential legal liability.
In any event, you may want to read the fine print next time you sign an agreement to sell on an online e-commerce platform.
Sell your books on FB marketplace or CL or have a garage sale.
(PS: And let us know if there is a "class action lawsuit" in the works. )

The Constitution is exactly what gives eBay the right decide what other people are allowed to do on their property.
Contrary to what most people believe, the First Amendment does protect your speech on the eBay website. It only protects your speech against the actions of federal, state and local actors.
Just like eBay, I appreciate the fact that the Constitution does not allow other people to come into my house and tell me what I can and cannot do tgher. The Constitution protects everyone's freedom, not just the freedom of the people one agrees with.
