Ebay giving out our phone numbers??
I just noticed that when I sell an item, I can see the buyer's phone number on the order details page. Has this always been the case?
And so when I sell an item, does ebay also provide the buyer with the phone number on my account?
I'm not OK with that.
I ask because recently, ebay withheld my payouts unless they could "verify" my account. I talked with customer "service".
They would not "verify" my account unless I provided a mobile phone number on my account.
I explained to them that I do not have a mobile phone. Ebay said they could not "verify" my account by me confirming it to them on my home phone landline which I have had on my account for 17 years, I needed to provide a "mobile" phone number they could text a code to.
I said what if I give you mobile phone number that is not mine?
They said as long as I can receive the texted code number.
I then discovered that the ebay account settings only lets you fill out one phone number.
So in my account settings I had to remove my home landline number, which ebay has had as a contact number on my account for 17 years, and replace it with a mobile phone number that is not my own.
Which leads me back to a point concerning my original question -
So, when I buy or sell an item, ebay will provide the seller or buyer with the mobile phone number that is not mine??

OP3 years agoThe problem in my case is that the phone number they will give out as mine, is not mine.
I was forced to give a ebay "mobile" phone number and since I don't have a mobile phone, they accepted a phone number that is not mine.
Apparently, that is now the phone number that ebay will provide to sellers/buyers as mine.

·3 years agoThey will only provide it to sellers- not buyers. Required by many delivery companies.

Requiring a phone number from a buyer is an option in buyer preferences, under the shipping section at the bottom. If you elect no and ship internationally courier services may not be able to set up delivery.

Can't we just communicate by ebay messaging, if we need? Ugg

·3 years agoI can think of one main reason, some shipping services, especially international REQUIRE or "strongly recommend" a phone number for the recipient.

·3 years agoeBay provides buyer phone numbers to sellers, the phone number remains available in the order details for 14 days.
eBay does not give buyers a seller phone number by default, in the distant past it was possible for buyers to request their sellers contact info, I don't think that is possible anymore.

I just checked an order as a seller. The buyer's phone number (or some phone number) is shown to me.
I just checked an order as a buyer. The seller's phone number is not listed; mine is not listed... or shown to me, anyway.
In answer to your question... yes, I think that eBay might list a mobile that is not yours, if it's shown in your Account info.
