eBay getting rid of eBay on Facebook.
They got rid of "eBay for business" and now when I chatted with them today, they are getting rid of their help chat on Facebook tomorrow 1/14/26.
This came with pretty much no announcement whatsoever.
Why does eBay continue to lower the quality of help provided?

·3 months agoI literally cannot have them call me through my phone number. My phone is busted and waiting on service parts to be delivered bought through ebay so that I can repair it, and I need to get in contact with a rep immediately. Why is anything related to support over text/web being disabled? The AI chat bot and the pre-programed questions don't satisfy my inquiries or help me resolve anything. You can't even get a rep through live chat on the help/contact section on the main site..... The bot never allows the email/live chat options that it used to..... Any suggestions/solutions for people that can't us the 'contact us' feature over the phone?

If you are unable to get a call back, try contacting eBay via social media direct message:

·5 months agoI’ve never noticed a difference in the support I received via the Facebook chat and the chat support directly on eBay. I never use the phone support if I can avoid it, but I don’t think the chat reps are different.
gurlcat
·5 months ago@jonathanbrightlight I'll admit I used chat only once, but it was so bad -basically a text version of a phone chat, complete with hints of ESL, like overuse of "please" and my name. Over and over, the guy didn't understand what feature I was talking about because he clearly didn't know eBay very well, and by the time it was over he had given me assurances that ultimately proved untrue, just like phone CSR's. I actually shared it here in a post, but it was a couple years back.
Whereas with the Facebook reps, it has always been very straightforward talk and minimal exchanges, with the problem actually resolved about 90% of the times, I'd say. And even when they couldn't fix something, they'd explain why very clearly, which is satisfying in its own right.

·5 months agoI would never consider doing business through Facebook.
I have always assumed that any problems I have had with any internet marketplace are my problems to resolve. I know more about how I use these sites, and how they work than any of the fools who handle customer service.
The knowledgebases they use to find answers are no better than the help files on most of these sites. My first language is English, and I am more capable of reading comprehension in English than third world ESL individuals.
Many sellers who contact support, do so for problems which are not Ebay's. Many sellers who contact support are calling with excuses and seeking exceptions to the rules. None of these sellers can receive reliable and accurate results because they will not listen to the truth, and will hassle the support reps. As a result, the support reps attempt to make them feel better but do nothing useful.
The US is often described as a nation of laws. Indeed it is and that is not a bad thing. Unfortunately, it is often a nation of laws interpreted by bureaucrats. Ebay and other large organizations do not differ from our government with bureaucrats interpreting policy and codifying it with no exception or meaningful appeal.
Learn to deal with your problems and assume that sometimes the way to deal with problems is to throw money at them. Your time and mental well-being are worth some of your treasure.

·5 months agoThe facebook peeps were very different from the phone reps. The former could help and knew what they were doing, the latter are a crap shoot.
I actually feel the US used to be a nation of laws. Well, it still may be, but many do not need to follow them now.

·5 months agoI couldn't agree more. The 'reps' on FB were able to do things that AI just couldn't.
Removing Feedback- all AI ever does is say NO
@tobaccocardyahoo you apparently never had an AI decided 'thing' happen that you needed to get reversed. Ebay AI CONSTANTLY defies their own 'policies' so at least these reps were there to 'fix it'.
RIP FB Reps:
We'll ALL (well most that know what you actually COULD do) miss you!
Talk with a FB Rep....feedback was removed.
Site showed item that actually 'delivered' as 'not ever scanned as received by carrier'.
AI- nothing
Reps on FB- removed
tobaccocardyahoo
·5 months agoI have had AI generated decisions which were stupid, unjust and out of policy.
I have learned to suck it up, and go about making money.
I have also violated policy and not been caught. So it averages out.
I believe that if you tell me the rules, I will play the game or not play the game. I do not have a biblical sense of justice and do not stamp my feet and shout at the top of my lungs "this is wrong". Maybe someone's Mommy will try to soothe them and make things right, but Ebay is not my Mommy and is too ugly to be.
gurlcat
·5 months ago@tobaccocardyahoo Sure looks like you have a need to publicly self-glorify and boast superiority. I can't think of any innocent reason for you to come in and tsk-tsk about us losing something that many of us regard as the only hope in glaringly unfair situations. -Now I'm sure you'll have something to say about "unfair" so go ahead. It's part of your mandate apparently, instead of just minding your own business and not making others' discussion about you. We get it, you're the best eBay'er EVER. 🙄

·5 months agoFalse hope is far worse than no hope.
gurlcat
·5 months agoLOL false? You mean the 9/10 times the social media reps were actually able to correct the errors and enforce the policies that phone/chat reps rarely ever do?
Just admit you don't know what you're talking about because you never went to them for help, and what this is REALLY about is your dislike of social media platforms. -Look at how Chataeau is able to make that distinction in a healthy and rational way. It's not that hard.

·5 months agoThe issue is when ebay doesn't follow their own rules. For example. I posted about a string of INR cases I had filed against me in a week or so time. All of which were improper addresses/old addresses on file. Two of which when they cases were closed in my favor, as they should have been, that same day the cases were reversed and funds were taken from me. I had to then reach out to ebay reps on facebook which apologized and reversed them.
There are many issues some of us run into that perhaps you don't because of the items we sell and the people who buy those items that cannot be resolved simply by reading ebay's help pages.
As a nation of laws, our laws seem to apply to people differently, usually reflective on who you are and how much you're worth or who you know (often a combo). Certain people try and blur those lines to other things like religion, color, sex, or something else, but in the grand scheme of things its much more simple than that.
The select few have a much different set of rules than most of us do. Its easier to get away with such hypocrisy when you keep the masses constantly fooled/distracted into not recognizing the bigger picture. Ebay isn't much different. There are many horrible sellers and buyers that get away with much more simply because of profit and volume.
Dealing with problems by throwing money at them is why the online marketplace has become what it is. And I don't say that as a good thing. Its lazy and that attitude usually ends up costing much more in the long run. Return fraud at a low estimate cost online retailers around $900 million a couple years ago (believe it was 2024) which has surged because of being lazy, causing a problem that has gotten out of hand by continuing to kick it down the road. Unfortunately that seems to be much the American way. Not dealing with issues until they are bat poop crazy and can no longer be ignored.

I just can't today. Way too many cuss words in my fingers right now. Had enough other gruesome discoveries in the past 12 hours or so. Feels like the whole business world is set on beating customers into helpless submission.

·5 months agoI messaged them on Facebook specifically asking about support for US users and just got this answer ☹️
@gurlcat tagging you because I know you were worried about this...sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
bgt_masters_of_tiki_d
·5 months agoYuck. Their phone support is basically worthless and has been for many years now. They'll blatantly lie and tell you whatever just to get you off the phone. The social media contact was the only place to get actual help for issues which was actually pretty decent as you didn't have to sit on hold or be tied up trying to resolve an issue. It was one of the few things they've gotten right over the years and now its gone. It is so much easier to communicate with someone who we might have a language barrier with over typing than actually speaking with on the phone as well.
When do we get the announcement spinning it as somehow a great thing?
my-cottage-books-and-antiques
·5 months agoWell, here we are:
valueaddedresource
·5 months agoLooks like this one is making the social media rounds again with some claiming eBay has announced they are discontinuing Facebook support for the US as well.
https://www.youtube.com/shorts/8KhCKjs3lPY
@devon@ebay @elizabeth@ebay @kyle@ebay can you confirm if US sellers will continue to be able to message support reps at https://www.facebook.com/ebay please?
elizabeth@ebay
Hi, @valueaddedresource We will be turning off DMs for X and Facebook on Wednesday 11th March. Members can still get support via our Help & Contact page: https://www.ebay.com/help/home
Select 'Contact Us' to chat with our automated assistant or contact an agent.
valueaddedresource
·5 months agoThanks @elizabeth@ebay - it's incredibly disappointing that such a major customer service shift is being done on such short notice with no public announcement.
stephenmorgan
·5 months agoThis is the future of business. Not just eBay but many, many business are turning over customer support to computers with preprogrammed solutions that will at times have nothing to do with your issue.
sugarnspice777
·4 months agoYes, But, that is not something that should be implimented here. The pre programmed is 99% wrong info. The customer service people have ZERO power over any issue. People who need refunds from overcharging are screwed, same with feedback removal for extortion. Some really do want to help, but have no way to. Everyone BETTER start asking for a service request number, or if you have a bad glitch and need to be added to a list, you won't get fixed! There is a LOT wrong with this.
This place has ZERO product. We pay there paychecks, all there RAISES come from us, and they just keep raising prices here. They also have to pay that California tax. Well I say MOVE out of CA Ebay, stop overcharging us!
If only a site would open that had auctions AND Bins.
stephenmorgan
·4 months agoUnfortunately it is something that is already being implemented here.
tsme35
·5 months agoJUST GREAT, FB reps got things done right and by ebay policy, unlike calling into ebay. AI is a joke, doesn't understand the question and I spend more time getting something worked out. I get better help on the boards then call in reps.
UGH, guess I better get use to " say again", room full of people talking and don't forget about the roosters, dogs and cows in the back ground

·6 months agoPerhaps you all would prefer a paid method of contacting support? Like a 900 number just $2/min or maybe a monthly subscription for "priority" support?
Yeah, I didn't think so...
Personally I'd prefer my fees not to go up because people can't be bothered to read the help pages...

·7 months agoI’m a very loyal person and when some company is good to me I stick with them for life.
I had 1 credit card 💳 for maybe 40 years. Just one credit card 💳 to my name until they pulled an issue unforgivable and after 40 years I cancelled it!
ebay is taking all its customers for granted now and that is not acceptable.
We need excellent customer service asap. Too many issues can occur with both the buyers and the sellers money. 💵
I remember in the early years I always could speak with an agent and resolve whatever issues immediately. ✅
Is eBay too big for their britches and is the company downfall right around the corner?
itsjustasprain
·7 months agoMaybe.
No. But they definitely do not want to spend money on things like customer support or anything else that does not give them an immediate short-term profit of some kind.
stainlessenginecovers
·7 months agoThe amount (number of) ridiculous reasons that people 'contact ebay' for, no wonder they did away with any easy 'contact'.
I never had a FB account, but opened one for just the reason that 1 out of 100000 know about contacting those reps, the reps that can actually do something.
If they do away with it, there will be nothing worth contacting and a person just has to live with whatever is happening.
stuff4divas
·7 months agoI totally agree about the ridiculous reasons people want to 'contact ebay'
Just look at what they post here
I recently had 2 bad buyer experiences on Posh and the only method to correspond with them is thru emails, no chat, no phone number, no X, FB, Instagram, etc.
Then you have to wait days b4 they get back to you, so in comparison, eBay has excellent methods for contacting them.

·5 months agoI only contact ebay for urgent matters ... like my sales are slow. 😉

·7 months agoMany (for years now) have complained about the absurdity of having to go on Facebook to resolve a problem on eBay, so I can't say that this surprises me, but I don't really have much faith that the new (or only) procedure from here on (going to https://www.ebay.com/help/home) is really going to lead to actual people who can reason out a solution, or will just lead to another impenetrable AI wall of machine logic.

·7 months agoAgreed. I find "In Your Facebook", "Instaglam", and "InXcess" all depressing and one should not have to open an account with any of them and hold their nose.
I'm just resigned to the fact that there's no customer support available that I'd find acceptable and as a buyer adjust my buying habits (less) from there.
If it's not automated I'm not likely to bother..............................

The change was announced during eBay’s Summer 2024 Seller Check‑In.
