EBAY FINALLY ADVERTISING THE BRAND!
I waited several years disgusted with Ebays advertising campaign. Radio and TV only promoted Ebay Motors for the Holidays. Who really wants to get floor mats or a steering wheel cover as a Christmas gift? Selling on Ebay for over 25 years I always wondered why they never advertised the company as a "whole" instead of just a part of it. Well, the new commercial is pretty cool. Some kids don't even know Ebay is still around, maybe now they will buy more knowing that it's just not for car parts! "Things that People Love" is the new campaign. Thanks Ebay!!

·10 months agoI remember one Christmas around 1985 me and my wife trying to wrap a front fender for a 1960s Porsche her brother was fixing up. The paper kept ripping . it was a nightmare!!

·10 months agoMy personal favourite eBay ad has even disappeared from eBay.
It was a co-op venture with Canada Post.
And showed sellers shipping comic books from Toronto, mukluks from Yellowknife, jam from Saskatoon, candles from Golden, and smoked salmon from Sidney by dropping packages into the signature red corner mail boxes.
It was brilliant.
Explained how eBay was variety of unusual goods, sold by people not chains, hit the patriot button, and reminded people that Canada Post still delivers more parcels than any other carrier.

eBay could do a similar campaign in the US, not only boosting the huge variety we have to offer here, but showing regular people selling all sorts of things to regular people all over the country (illustrated by background scenery). One of their much earlier campaigns was similar and it was very good.
But, I guess we're still going to have Jamie's verticals and all sell expensive purses, sneakers and watches or whatever to each other. ::Yawn::

·10 months agoThat's sort of what The River is doing stressing in a series of ads that 60% of the items sold on the river are from independent sellers. Then they show a clip of the seller doing their thing on camera. They are stressing that you are not buying things FROM he river so much as you are buying things ON the river.
Sort of like the massive shopping malls that sprung up he the last half of the 1900s. There was an anchor store (Frequently someone like Sears, or Penney, etc) and then a whole bunch of locally owned independent sellers. You never bought anything from the mall, you bought it at the mall.
eBay could sort of fashion itself as that mall filled with independent sellers. You buy ON eBay not FROM eBay.
This idea is not copyrighted and if some eBay whiz kid wants to pick it up and run with it I have no objection.

By Holiday campaign, I mean a campaign that actually ties into the Holiday Season, not just a campaign that happens to run during the Holiday Season.
I don't think ebay has run an actual Holiday Campaign since Jamie took over as CEO.
But maybe this year will be the charm?

·10 months agoWhat Brand does eBay Sell thought the sellers sold stuff that buyers want thru an eBay venue?? eBay the name is very well known in my book and makes $$ when the sellers sell something & buyer pays unless the seller opts for some optional features.
Years ago did an analysis how effective our advertising was. vs advertising.. Result 3% increase. Our support for our local dealer advertising 14%. That is why I believe that eBay sellers listings are the best sales person(s). Buyer perception is every thing vs. what a seller may think. Here is a link that offers some interesting incites. There are also kids who don't know that New Mexico is a state, or who the President is. But I have never met anyone who didn't know that eBay existed and what it was for.

I remember a news article a few years ago. A woman gets off a plane and is greeted by a customs agent who wants to se her passport. Passport? she says - I'm an American citizen. Prove it. So she takes our he NM drives license. The clerk hands it back and say No this proves you are a Mexican - passport please.
Have you ever had a tussle with a government bureaucrat?. That's what happened here. Bad enough, and stupid enough to make it onto the evening news.
Reminds me of an old a Monty Python skit (The parrot is dead - no it's just sleeping) .

·10 months agoEBay has been advertising consistently where I get my entertainment.
There are eBay ads on FaceBook, on YouTube, and on TikTok.
Radio and broadcast TV are legacy media and attract an older and less wealthy demographic.
Retailers want the younger consumer with an eye to making them lifelong customers.
Some want the 18-35 crowd who are leaving school, starting careers, and buying first home for new families.
Some want the 30 -50 crowd who are in some of their best earning years, but are also building their homes and lifestyles.
Hardly anyone wants us Boomers, living on our pensions and downsizing our possessions.
When you watch your TV shows , look at what is advertised.
If it is high end cars, medicines, and cruises, your shows attract us Boomers.
If it is cheap cars (or EVs), WalMart, and mortgage companies, they are looking for younger buyers.

·10 months agoYea I watched that added it centered around higher priced Sports collectibles. with the current market inflation issues with smaller buyers market ,I would liked eBay to push there other stuff eBay has to offer.

·10 months agoI was actually teasing @hartungcards but as a matter of fact, I suspect quite a few game watchers may collect purses - quite a few women watch sports and more than a few of us have been competitive athletes.

·10 months agoIt is Great to see more & better advertising!, But some people would actually like those items as a Christmas gift. A car buff would love some of those as gifts, People receive a wide variety of gifts at Christmas!, Let's Hope it's some of the variety we offer!
