Ebay fees when you're bank account has zero balance
I'm in dispute with ebay over selling fees for an item that didn't actually sell at auction.
There is zero balance (with no overdraft facility) in my linked selling bank account and I've cancelled my purchase credit card.
Can ebay still take the money somehow?

Why did you relist the car? And it was relisted at a higher opening bid price than the first listing.
Did you end the first listing because it was sold (which is what the listing shows) or did you end it because you were afraid you wouldn't get enough money for it?
In your post, you claim you're "in dispute with ebay over selling fees for an item that didn't actually sell at auction."
But again, do you understand that ending an auction with bids is the same as selling and you're responsible for the fees?
Per ebay policy, unless you list it with a reserve, you are obligated to sell at the high bid price. If you didn't list it high enough and the bidding doesn't take off, you're still on the hook.
If I'm wrong about why you're "in dispute" over the fees, please clarify and explain.

·1 year agoLet me see if I can guess what your issue is.
You ran an auction for an Alfa Romeo car. Your auction had bids on it so without a reserve, the item was (or would be) sold once the listing ended.
But instead of letting the listing run, you ended it early because it was sold.
When you end an auction listing that had bids on it, ebay assumes (probably correctly) that you sold it outside the platform and they charge fees on that item based on the bids that were made on the listing.
So, I'm curious @ph-920361. Why did you end the listing?

·1 year agoI know that is true for the main Ebay site but does that also hold for Ebay Motors car listings? I know the seller owes the initial listing fees anyway but I thought either seller or buyer could back out of a vehicle sale on Ebay Motors without an Ebay penalty.

What exactly happened? Did you sell an auction item off-eBay and then try to cancel the auction?

·1 year agoGuess you really didn't want to sell on eBay after less than a month as a eBay member. Your User Agreement follows the rules/laws of the UK. Members on this chat site are mainly from the USA. Certainly our laws differ in these colonies.

·1 year agoSo you owe ebay fees that you don't want to pay, so you cancelled your credit cards so ebay can't access them. Very smart. Let us know how that works out for you...

If this were in the U.S. Ebay would try to take money from your checking account and if your bank rejects the withdraw request they would send the debt to collections. Once it goes to collections it be reported to all three credit bureaus and will cause your credit score to tank.
Once your credit score tanks, you will get denied when you apply for credit with many banks or pay a lot higher interest rates on the loans you do get approved for. The collections derogatory stays on your credit record for 7 years. I would just bite the bullet and pay it if it is less than a few hundred bucks. If you buy a car and end up paying 3% a year higher in interest on a $30,000.00 car loan it is $900.00 more in interest in the first year and close to $3,000.00 more over 5 years of a typical car loan. I would a lot more if you have buy house.
The could also go to court and get a judgement if the debt was big enough. Again a judgement would tank your credit score and would have to be paid off before you could get a house loan. Judgements stay on your credit history until paid off. If it goes to judgement you will also be responsible for the legal fees eBay incurred.

·1 year agoIf in the US, yes they can get your money a couple of different ways. They also can block prevent anyone who uses you IP address, or you are linked to via computer/internet, ect from ever using eBay until the money is paid, whether that person is responsible or not.

·1 year agoI don't know how much the fees are, but you are basically agreeing to be banned from ever using eBay. Yes, you can incur eBay fees even if your item does not sell. You are still on the hook for those fees. You might later regret cutting ties with eBay when you realize eBay is the best place to sell stuff. Trying to get back in is almost impossible. I would recommend just paying the fees and moving on, but I understand the anger some people feel over issues like this. Rules are rules.

·1 year agoYou are in the UK.........this board is primarily US seller who wouldn't know the options in the UK.....here they could sue you, hurt your credit rating, etc. Suggest you post on the UK board.
