Ebay fees on shipping
Hello I am trying to sell item for a low price and also make sure the item arrives secure.
For instance I sell a stamp for $1.00 and ebay advantage shipping is $3.96.
Ebay will charge me the 13.25% fee also on the shipping so their fee is $0.66 cents
The standard charge for under $100.00 is $ 0.30 cents so total fee is $0.96 cents
That leaves me with $ 0.04 cents. That does not make sense.

·1 year agoWhy are you paying so much extra for "secure" shipping? Use the ESE or stop selling low-priced items. For a $1 item, it might even be worthwhile to use a Forever stamp instead of the ESE. As noted in the above posts, you have to figure out your overhead in advance, including the final value fee of 30 cents plus 13.5%.

·1 year agoeBay fees on shipping and handling has been in effect since 2011.
Suggest you calculate your profit before you list anything.
This may help you if you know excel. Note the past eBay & PayPal fees are shown - you can easily update to current fees.
The founder of Walmart, Sam Walton, professed in his business model of low prices and margins volume is everything. He did well until his death then the kids took it over seems like did well.

·1 year agoThat is a great example of why sellers, especially new sellers need to learn what the selling fees are BEFORE they price their items for sale. The information isn't hidden, it is very accessible. It even shows at the bottom of a listing BEFORE you click to post it.
How would anyone squeeze the Ebay FVFs, cost of the product and shipping supplies out of a $1 sale?
Oh, for items you are orders under $10, it is a 30 cent per transaction fee. Over $10 it is 40 cents.
How did you ever expect to price your items correctly if you didn't even know what the site charges you for their services?

·1 year agoWhy do you think you need to pay for tracking?
If the buyer claims the purchase never arrived, can you shrug and refund or will your ulcer act up?
You can ship domestically without tracking and be almost 100% certain that the shipment will arrive promptly and that your buyer will be pleased.
Tracking is just a Seller Protection.
Do you really think you need it on a $1 transaction? On a $10 transaction? Where is your pain point?
I do have the advantage as a Global Top Rated Seller of not being required to track shipments to keep my TRS badge (which doesn't show on dotCOM in any case, but does elsewhere in the world). My loss in transit rate is well under the one percent we talk about.
Most people are honest.
YMMV depending on what you sell.

·1 year agoI agree.
It makes absolutely no sense for a seller to list unprofitable items on eBay.
Smart sellers choose inventory with starting prices that will sell at a profit.

·1 year agoDon't sell stuff for a dollar on ebay. If you do, mail it in an envelope. But I wouldn't do that either.

·1 year agoYour example is at the most basic level and makes perfect sense but there are other factors that effect the eBay fees and your costs. Your example assumes no sales tax and no other additional fees or charges. In the worst case lets take your example and assume the sale is to a buyer in a state which has sales tax on both the item and the shipping cost.
If the sales tax rate happens to be 9% then it is costing you to make the sale.

"Ship with ESE and the fees will be less."
Except that the OP has stated that they want the item to arrive "secure."
Tracking with the ESE is "hit or miss" -- so definitely not "secure."

·1 year agoIf your cost for the stamp is 1 cent, then that's a great 300% profit right there. Just repeat that 33,333,333 times and instant millionaire. ðŸ‘

What is that? Are you saying this because Adyen is the bank that does the Money processing for Ebay? Adyen is a US bank.
FYI PayPal charged the same fee to us when they were our money processor. Paypal also has a US bank that does their money processing for them as PP is NOT a bank either.
