eBay fees improvement idea
I suggest to make eBay fees proportional to eBay resources that the sellers use. Practically, make fees proportional to number of orders instead of the current $$$ value. eBay cost is the same to sale $10 item and $1000 item. But eBay fees are $1.50 and $150 respectively. The seller of $1000 item is probably making less profit compared to eBay fees because the cost of expensive items if high. My eBay total is 250k/year. After cost of my items, I end up with about 10% profit, while eBay takes 14% fees+ 8% promotions. eBay takes from me about $5k every month for serving just 130 of my orders. $5k/month can buy me all the google search result to be on the top of the first google search. High item value sellers make more profit margin for eBay compared to $10 item sellers. I think eBay should be focusing on the sellers who actually make eBay stock going up. This is what I would want if I owned eBay stock. Here is what I did for eBay in 2 years. Total eBay sales of my category “Titanium lug nuts†was 70k/year in 2022 with my share of 20%. Now it is 250k/year with my share of 95%. I feel like I did well for eBay while eBay did not make me feel like eBay likes what I have done. I sale with profit of low 10%. My primary driver is mental satisfaction because I am a retired aerospace engineer with my mortgages paid off long time ago. I want eBay to do something towards to myself so I feel like I am needed on eBay platform. Charging me 1000s more than the low profitability sellers make me feel like eBay likes these low profit performers and does not care about higher profit performers. It should be something in eBay that shows an opportunity of eBay dream. I am old enough to remember the American Dream. It really worked. If it worked for our country, why don’t we make it work for eBay? (My 10% profit is calculated based on return on my investment. With 250k total eBay payout is 170k and my 10% profit is about 17k. eBay takes about 45k)

It’s business, not personal.
Maybe i am reading too much into your premise, but looking for a seeming human response from a huge corporate entity like eBay may not be a realistic endeavor. Even if eBay were amenable to accepting suggestions from its users, and made your proposed changes, would that indicate any kind of personal need on its part for your participation? Or show a preference for your presence over a user with lower profit margins? I do not believe eBay can care about its users on a personal level.
Our primary “reward†for a job well done as sellers would ostensibly be profit, and beyond that, perhaps whatever personal satisfaction that entails. Can’t imagine eBay reaching out in any other way to make me feel i am needed or wanted here. My presence is largely an anonymous one. I am a cog in the machine and that’s ok.

You can't say eBay takes the shipping because they don't but even then your numbers are off.

No they aren't - because you are completely ignoring the risk to eBay.
In the first case, if the seller closes his bank account and cancels his credit card and then six months later the buyer files a chargeback, eBay is only on the hook for $10 that they cannot collect from the seller.
But in the second case, eBay is on the hook for $1000 that they cannot collect from the seller.

Are you fully aware that you CHOOSE to pay eBay that 8% promotion fee?
It sounds like your lug nut selling niche is paying off pretty well. Do you need to pay 8% of every sale to eBay?
What you call 14% in fees is required by eBay, but when that 8% is retained by eBay that is purely voluntary by YOU.
You might want to see what happens if you drop that promotional fee percentage to "only" 5% or 6%. That might increase your monthly/weekly/daily payouts from eBay. You might even decide to eliminate a promotion fee completely. eBay will be OK without your little pocket-change contribution.

·1 year agoebay no more wants it's customers to tell them how much profit that they "should" earn
than the sellers on ebay want to be told how much they (the sellers) should earn.

eBay doesn't care about your profits; they care about their own. Final value fee rates ARE lower for very-high-priced transactions:
