·1 year agoIn an auction...you have to wait after 4 days exactly to the minute when the auction started before canceling the sale as unpaid.
I remember posting an auction for under .99 cents and then cancel it before it ended...I got charged 10 cents...LOL

·1 year agoCanceling an active auction is totally different from canceling an unpaid transaction. eBay's policy is that if you cancel all the bids and end the auction early with no sale, they will charge you the final value fee just the same as if you had sold to the high bidder.

·1 year agoWhat fee were you charged? The final value fee should be charged only if the buyer has paid. But listing fees are charged when the listing goes live; these include insertion fees (if you have used up your free insertions for the month) and listing upgrade fees such as Reserve, subtitle, listing in two categories, etc.

·1 year agoWhat kind of "eBay fee" was it?
Was one of the several eBay fees that the seller pays regardless of whether the buyer pays?
EDIT: if you canceled the transaction and chose any reason other than non-payment, you might be liable for the fees as if it had sold.

·1 year agoEbay does not charge you the FVFs for the sale until the buyer actually pays for the item.
If you were charged any fees before the buyer paid, I would encourage you to look at them closely. They would be for listing upgrades or listing fees because you went over you 250 free listings in a calendar month.
You can see the details in this link below. On the right side you can see what exactly was deducted from your account.

You have to wait 4 days and on day 5 you can Cancel using the reason "Buyer hasn't paid". You will be credited the fees (unless they are non-refundable like Reserve price on auctions) and the Buyer will be given one Unpaid item strike. If they get 2 they will have trouble buying on eBay.

I wasn't aware you would be charged a fee at all till the buyer actually paid for the item? Am I missing something? I know I have never been charged a fee on an item that was waiting for payment or hadn't been paid yet.
Item that was paid and had a cancel request, sure. Unless they are referring to having funds held and think they haven't been paid yet, that would make more sense. Just making sure here.

We were not told the value of the fee and yes, some are charged before payment, like Insertion fees, Special duration fees on Auctions ... I believe Reserve price as well, which is charged whether the auction sells or not. I qualified my statement with the non-refundable fees comment. More detail can zero in on the reason for the fee.
