eBay Fees

When I check my eBay Account I see that the basic selling fee went from 13.25% to 13.3%. Now in banking, 3/4 of 1 % can make a lot of differences in the financial outcome, whether it be a CD or a loan.

When did this .75% increase occur?

I just sold a book for $15.00 on eBay, with free shipping. My total sale was $15.89, and 13.3% was taken on $12.90..... HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE?

I know that books have a sellers fee of 15+%, but why doesn't eBay take that higher rate on the actual $15.00 book sale??

$15.89 IS $15.00 + 6% Sales Tax, fees are calculated on the total of Item + Shipping + Sales Tax. (this is the way eBay has been calculating fees for several years).

If the buyer paid $15.89, that it what the fee's are based on, not $12.90.

Ir seems eBay is charging the correct 13.25% but is rounding it up when showing the details.

It makes it very complicated, for sure.
The difference between 13.25 and 13.30 is .05, not .75

1 stand corrected, BUT I sold the book for $15.00, with free shipping and yet they said the total sale was 15.89 and charged 13.3% fee on 15,90. This must be the new Jeff Bezos way of accounting.

When I look at my past sales this year, I can see where the 13.25% fee they charged in my sales from July of this year, until todays book sale was changed to 13.3%.

I noticed that you have only 9 feedbacks. I've been with eBay since the late '70's, but according to eBay, it's been since the '80's. I guess eBay must have started when they were sold in the '80's. I sold on eBay when people sent you personal checks, money orders, cash directly to the seller. eBay just put a fee on your credit card.

I'm 80:years old and just sell occasionally now, and noticed how the world has changed. People just don't leave feedbacks anymore.

Your buyer paid $15.00 plus SALES TAX. Your final value fee was 13.25% plus 30 cents from the entire amount your buyer paid ($15.00 plus tax). The sales tax (eBay charged) is where the $0.89 came from.

No one has been with ebay since "the late '70's" or 80s. Ebay wasn't born until 1995.

I am a '44 model and in the 70s no one knew what the internet was or even how to spell it. Computers were run by IBM punch cards and Fortran programming. However we knew what double digit (14%) inflation and 12.9% 30 year fixed price mortgages was.
