Ebay doesn’t care about sellers
Gi had a situation that dragged out over a couple months leaving me broke, in debt tae eBay over $800 and completely disgusted with the company.
I sold a generator to a guy in Alaska and sent it tohim through Canada post on June 5th. The tracking showed it making it to the border on June the 6th and then no more up dates. When the expected delivery time came and went there was another update to the tracking that said delayed and nothing more. My buyer started calling USPS AND Canada post trying to find out where the item was but they had no answers for him. Eventually they told him to get a hold of me to see if I could get anymore info but I was getting the same info as him. The two of us both called dozen of times and no one could tell us anything. Eventually he asked eBay to step in and eBay refunded him his money after giving me a deadline to get the tracking to say it was still on the way but Canada post and usps both could not tell me anything aboot the item where abouts. It took me about 2 months 2 repay eBay after they refunded the buyer. In the meantime i continued to check the tracking which continued to just say delayed. Once i finished paying the debt I decided to contact Canada post and havethem open up an investigation. And it didnt take them long to let me know the item was still in Richmond BC and had been deemed dangerous goods before crossing the boarder due to fuel still being in the generator. They informed me that they contacted eBay on June 10th asking them to let me know so i could deal with it accordingly. EBay never contacted me and when i recently contacted EBay about this they denied being contacted by Canada post. I went in Canada post to pick the generator up and the manager mentioned to me that I was lucky they still had it because they had called eBay again to ask what they should do about the item. EBay had instructed them to just dispose of the item. Fortunately the manager didn’t feel comfortable disposing of such a valuable item right away so he decided to hold onto it a little while longer to see if the owner came to claim it which I eventually did

·11 months agoEbay is NEVER contacted about ANYTHING to do with shipping. You list, you sell, you ship. If it fails, it's on you, not the buyer (since buyer didn't receive). YOU chose the carrier. YOU filled out the paperwork. It's all on you so sounds like it worked out like it should have.

·11 months agoDid eBay leave fuel in the generator? No, you did. If you are going to sell anything that may have had fuel in it, you have to be sure to get it all out of there. I sell vintage lanterns sometimes. Before I even list them, I make sure I've gotten all the fuel out and have given it sufficient time to air out the fumes.
None of this was eBay's fault. This is not a carrier issue. This is not a buyer issue. This is a seller issue who either made a mistake or doesn't know what they are doing.

There seems to be some missing or confusing details and unanswered questions about your transaction. Please return and let us know more about what happened.

·11 months agoWhy would CP contact ebay instead of you? You had to fill out a customs declaration as well as include your return address on the package, did you falsify this info?

·11 months agoYeah, I have a really hard time believing that they contacted ebay. How did they know ebay was involved? How did they contact them? You said they called, but what phone number? There's no phone number that I know of. Do you think they messaged them somehow? And said what? We have a package here sent by this person? Was there an order number on the label somewhere?
Am I missing something? Did you have to give ebay contact info and an order number when you filled out the customs form? Because I have never mentioned anything about ebay when sending packages either domestically or internationally.
Please don't get offended, I'm not saying you're lying. I'm saying I think Canada Post is lying if they told you that.

I'd say you were very lucky that that manager decided to hang on to the generator and that you were able to get it back. I'm just confused about why Canada Post would contact eBay if there was a problem with the shipment instead of you, since you are the shipper. How would anyone at Canada Post even know to contact eBay or who to contact at eBay if there was a problem. Unless you had "eBay" plastered all over the outside of the box, how would they know eBay was even involved?
If you did get it back, you should be able to resell it. Is this not the case?

·11 months agoAs I see it eBay receives their revenue from sellers to support their cost of venue development/maintenance, employee cost, legal counsel etc, Sellers receive their revenue from buyers by offering products to the market place that buyers want at a price that should produces a profit. Sellers need to know what they are doing before the jump into the selling waters and keep up with all the changes - selling is easier when one does. Yep competition and the rules for selling/shipping are for every changing and will keep every one on their toes. Been that way since Adam and Eve...
In a nutshell yes eBay cares about sellers but the rules of the game & competition don't hold still..
If you ain't changing you are getting further behind..

·11 months agoThat sounds just awful for both you and the buyer. A very difficult thing to go through. I don't know however how you turn this on Ebay as them not caring about you. Ebay did what they could. And if a buyer opens an INR case, after there is no movement on an item for 7-10 days, they will refund the buyer. That is pretty normal.
Your problem is with the carriers, not Ebay. Hopefully you can get them to return to you that generator.
As a general rule of thumb, don't spend the money you earned when you sell an expensive item if you can put it off until after you know the buyer has received the item. I'm glad Ebay worked with you and allowed you so much time to make up the difference. They didn't have to do that.
