Ebay complicit with seller fraud
I am currently bidding on a mineral specimen from China.
I have since found the same mineral specimen, with the same description from 4 separate ebay accounts: as a buy it now item of $406.
The game is simple. The seller will keep the auction going until it reaches an acceptable price (possibly with shill bidding) or just cancel the auction if someone else buys it from one of his other accounts or they don’t like the final price of the auction. Their negative feedback shows this same behavior.
Dear ebay, please be honest about your own activities. It was not hard to see that this same item is listed by 5 separate accounts. Stop making us believe that you are protecting the integrity of bidding when in fact you are doing absolutely nothing! I have already reported the issue.

·9 months agoI would not buy anything from China on Ebay. Like you said, they list items multiple times and have other people bidding them up. Ebay knows this and does nothing about it. Ebay does not care about their buyers and cares even less about their sellers.

You are making some assumptions that are driving your opinion about what is going on. That in and of itself is not a good way to start. Facts are far better.
What you assume in your post may or may not be true. Often times sellers have more than one item to sell. I know I do all the time. And I'm not the only one that has more of them. Also there are other sellers that sell some of the things I do, but I have nothing to do with that. So there legitimately could be other sellers with the same items for sale.
You need to do what is best for you. If you are not happy with the selection offered on this site or the sellers that sell here. Look around. See what you find that makes you feel better.

Perhaps going forward rethink this one.
Probably not the most reliable source for international sale/shipment especially as relates to rare/precious minerals, commodities, et al.
The platforms tacit acquiescence is another sonnet for a different moonlit night.

·1 year agoI second what stainlessenginecovers says about even bothering to look at items from Chinese sellers.
Think about it.........Their government and media protray us as evil.
I doubt reporting Chinese sellers will have any effect. Chinese sellers are a huge cash cow for Ebay.
I have heard so many horror stories of Chinese sellers seeming to get away with everything one can imagine that I won't even consider buying anything online from them.
In fact of around 200 countries in the world I will only buy from a handful of foreign sellers. Only if they have an extremely high positive rating with glowing reviews.
Since I've done this I've had 0 problems that weren't easily rectified to my satisfaction.

·1 year agoIt's not hard?? Really?? 2,000,000,000 (That's BILLION) listings and ebay is suppose to 'look at each'??
There are also 50,000 sellers selling the same pack of bandaids, package of socks etc. Duplicate items from Different sellers are what makes this place in the first place. To expect anything different is absurd.
But, good news for you.
The answer is simple.
Don't look at, view, watch, bid or buy ANYTHING from China.
Problem solved.

Wait... 2 Billion listings and 4-5 Million Sales??
Whats that as a percentage? - dont feel like doing math right now...Ok is 1/4 of a percent
Well looking at it that way, I dont blame them so much anymore for trying to get sellers to give them 40% to 50% of an items selling price with their Promoted Listings recommendations...

.25% per day is 7.5% a month, 22.5% per quarter, and 91.25% per year. Given that eBay does not control the inventory and there is a colossal amount of complete junk listed here, that would be pretty impressive.
But ...
Where did you get that 5 million per day figure? Other sources put it at 2 billion transactions per day.

Personally, I think your 5 million estimate is too low, and the 2 billion estimate is too high.

·1 year agoEbay reps are not here. This is a community of your peers who answer questions and ask for advice. All you can do is report the issue. That's it. Don't bid on the items and just move on.
