Ebay closing deceased Husbands account when I need it to stay open
My husband has an ebay account of 26 years. He passed away in July. Over the past several years we both bought and sold on his account. Yesterday I called ebay to have my name put on the account. They had me fill out a deceased member report. I did not realize that it also said closure of account. They said I can open a new account. We have a 100% rating and I don't want to start over. I'm 82 yrs old and need to start selling all the wonderful sports equipment that he purchased. Does anyone know how I can get ebay to transfer the account into my name. Please answer asap. Thank you.

·8 months agoIf this is the same account you are posting with then it doesn't look like you had anything listed recently and only 2 recent sales. Starting over is not a big deal if that is the case. Just make a new account and start listing like you always did. Might want to go on a little spending spree to build up 10 feedback before you start listing, as 10 looks a thousand times better than zero.

·8 months agoBig help to OP here would be if ebay left the Husbands account up for a while, but in Vacation mode, to give her a chance to run through all the listings and list all the listings as "Sell Similar" to get her account going with all her Husbands listings that are already up. She's already got all the items stocked away ready to sell. It would make it so much easier on her creating her new listings.
But, this is ebay, and trying to explain that simple process to an ebay Rep, keep her Husbands listings up temporarily so she could build up her own account, would be like trying to explain how American Hot Dogs are made to a German Schnitzel Maker. They wouldn't get it.

·8 months agoLegally, eBay cannot convert accounts over to anybody, including spouses. Even it was a registered business, like an LLC, the actual eBay account cannot convert even if the business itself went to the wife. eBay accounts are non-transferrable assets, and I believe it states this in the Terms of Service.
@tileguy54 I am so sorry for your loss and my heart goes out to you. I have no doubt you can get a new account up and running and get back to selling. If you used a cross list tool and the listings are still in it, you can upload all of them to your new account.
If you didn’t use a cross-listing tool and are comfortable working with spreadsheets, you can download all active listings from the account that will be closed. eBay allows listings to be exported to a CSV file and re-uploaded to a different account as new listings. Some of the columns can't be deleted and uploaded without causing issues. You can download the listing template from the new account and copy/paste the relevant listing information from the exported file into that template before uploading to the new account. You do not want to copy the eBay item number, as eBay will need to assign a new item number to each item.
For anybody who runes their eBay account as a husband/wife team, it may be wise to start a second account in the name of the other person. This way they can get an established selling history and aren't starting from scratch at a desperate time.

·8 months agoI am an authorized user on my spouse's account. Could it then just revert to me?

·8 months agoNo, they won't switch the account over to you.

·8 months agoI am so sorry for your loss. The EBAY business should have been in both of your names as I am not sure EBAY allows beneficiaries. You should get all inventory as next of kin and open a new shop, have an estate sale or however you choose to settle.

·8 months agoI'm sorry for your loss.
The person who's account it is has to pay the taxes. Deceased people don't pay taxes.
You cannot transfer an account from one person to another, you can only close it and open a new account.

·8 months agoDon't forget - you have all the selling experience gained from selling on the other account, so you're no newbie - you should do well going forward - just don't list anything too expensive at first until you get some feedback under your belt.

·8 months ago@tileguy54 I am deeply sorry for your loss. Unfortunately, I don't believe that you will be able to keep your husband's account.
Take care and be kind to yourself.

·8 months agoForgot to mention - Even if you had not submitted the form, eBay still would not have transferred the account into your name — they would have told her to open a new one.

·8 months agoI'm sorry for your loss, and from what I have read once a “deceased member report†is filed, the account is permanently closed and cannot be reopened, reassigned, or inherited.
