eBay cancelled my purchase but I have funds on hold - what should I do?
I was selling a game and got a buyer. Then the next day, eBay messages me saying "We cancelled a sale for your safety." Okay, no biggie, except my overview still says I sold the item and the buyer has already paid me, but the funds are on hold because I'm in the process of syncing my bank account/card information. What should my next step be? I haven't sent the game yet.

·3 years agoIf eBay cancelled the sale because the buyer's account was sketchy, the e-mail alert probably told you not to ship. Was a refund also processed? What do you see on these pages in terms of payments, refunds, cancellation status, etc?

OP3 years agoFirst thing I see is that the payment is in my "funds" per say, but the payments are still on hold. A refund has not been processed to my knowledge. No word on cancellation status either.
The item I sold is saying it sold, but also unsold? (It says because it failed to relist, I'll have to do that myself).

·3 years agoOK so do nothing right now. When those messages come through and seller already shipped they don't pull the funds. Since you hadn't shipped yet I'm not sure what will happen, but if they haven't pulled the funds yet they probably won't. But still ... you should operate under the expectation that funds will be pulled or a claim might be filed so don't spend the $$.
If you end up with a late shipping mark on your seller dashboard let us know and we can show you how to appeal it since the order was cancelled by eBay. Hopefully that's not something you'll have to worry about.

·3 years agoA dispute with who? Their Credit Card Co.?? Did eBay send you a message about a 'chargeback'?
Ebay will handle it and take it from your 'held' money and give it back to the buyer; or not. It's simply not your problem.
And yes, you can relist the item.

OP3 years ago'The buyer has filed a dispute for the order with their payment institute" it says. I don't know if accepting the dispute will take the money from my "on-hold" funds or directly from my wallet.

·3 years agoEbay will handle the 'dispute' (by the way, this is a chargeback) and eBay will take it from the funds they are holding.

·3 years agoIf your MP account was set up, eBay would pull funds from your linked bank or CC, then when the pending funds cleared you would receive those and it would all even out.
But since you're in the middle of MP sign up and your bank isn't verified yet I'm not entirely sure with the timing of things how that will play out. Just expect that eBay might pull the $40-ish from your bank or charge your CC before the hold is released and you're made whole.
Best guess: buyer may have been using stolen credit cards so the dispute is from the actual card owner.
You can either accept the dispute or choose to not respond and let eBay handle it. As long as you don't fight the dispute it really doesn't matter in this situation.
Relist the item and move on. Also - ditch the auction format. A game like that has a pretty clear market value. High scam category and low FB / new seller account you'll want to eliminate some of the scammers upfront. List fixed price, immediate payment required, no offers.

Overview may take longer to 'show' what is happening. Overview means nothing. Ignore it.
