I have sold tens of thousands of items on eBay since 1997. Most years, I receive a handful of negative feedbacks that are outright dishonest or deceiving. Of course, I appeal these feedbacks with eBay, and am luckly if they remove 10% of them. I also file a BBB complaint with every unacceptable negative feedback I receive after being denied with the appeal, and that usually results in roughly 40% of the negatives being removed. That being said, it is beyond frustrating when eBay almost exclusively supports the buyer's feedback. 1. When appealing a negative feedback, there is no way on earth that all facts are reviewed. In almost all denials (which is usually the result,) the eBay representative claims that the customers opinion is that they were wronged. However, the feedback will be a 100% lie. For example, someone buys a brand new item in the original package. They create a lie, stating that the item is damaged, and ask for a partial refund (this game is played frequently.) I won't give a partial refund on a brand new product. They then leave a negative stating that the item was broken, or stained, or whatever. I sold them a brand new item, shipped it immediately, and a week later they claim that the item had a flaw and demand I give a partial refund. If I say no, then I sometimes get a negative feedback when I have done absolutely nothing wrong. eBay allows customers to claim anything they want with no regard to the facts, and will support them in every way. If I had two days of free time, I easily could type dozen of other examples of why negative feedbacks were left, when there was 0% fault on me. 2. I video tape all packaging. When a customer claims that part of the contents were missing (happens occasionally,) eBay refuses to look at the footage. Once again, I have received negative feedbacks for people claiming the most valuable part of their package was missing and then demanding a partial refund (or full refund.) In just about every case, eBay supports the buyer. This is a battle I have fought dozens and dozens of times. In every case, I asked eBay to review the video footage, but they won't. For those who haven't experienced this, it is beyond frustrating. You do the honest thing- package the item, ship it promptly, only to eventually end up with a negative feedback and the customers gets a full refund because they told a lie.3. Someone returned a gold jewelry item claiming it wasn't real. It was, and I have the document that it is real. Gold crashed very soon after the customer bought it, and I am nearly 100% certain this is why. Nonetheless, I get a negative feedback when I was 100% honest. eBay supports the buyer because "that is how they felt." I could give about five dozen examples of negative feedbacks left since 1997. Were a few rightfully left- yes. However, the majority were total lies where dishonest activity took place. It is a battle I am getting tired of fighting. I have already shifted about 50% of my merchandise to Amazon and often sell gold and silver through other forums, as getting ripped off, and receiving a negative feedback as an added insult to injury is something I can't continue doing.
