Ebay buyers are traumatizing me...
Summary: goldrushfinds expressed frustration over dealing with demanding buyers who expect used items to appear brand new. A recent buyer complained about the condition of sold Vans sneakers despite clear listing photos. mam98031 advised handling such buyers politely and offering returns instead of engaging in disputes, noting that persistent buyers often aim for partial refunds. caldreamer chimed in, highlighting the unrealistic expectations of some buyers when purchasing used items. av-372 shifted the topic, inquiring about price listings on eBay.
OK, title is a bit hyperbolic, but lately, buyers on this site have been really brutal to deal with. I have never seen expectations so unrealistic and high. Just an hour ago got a message from buyer who said the shoes I sold him (Vans sneakers) were "trash", and asked me WTF happened to the soles. The shoes were in super clean condition, and soles had virtually no wear. I will admit, there was a tiny bit of shoe cleaner residue at very back tip of soles that I should have noted and wiped off, but with 5 seconds of work the buyer could just wipe it off. Honestly, the guy wears the shoes for 1 hour and the soles will be dirty anyway. Anyway these are NOT NEW shoes, people seem to think they are buying brand new shoes and anything less than that, even when sold as used" is unaccpetable. This is getting out of hand.

·3 weeks agoYou can't make everyone happy no matter how hard you work at it. It simply isn't possible. For me, when a buyer sends me a message like that or similar, I respond one way. Polite, professional and brief, as typically buyers that do this are fishing for a partial refund.
I am sorry to hear you have experienced a problem with our transaction. You are welcome to open a Return for the item and when I get it back I will issue you the appropriate refund. Please let me know what you decide.
Now that sometimes inspire a persistent buyer to send another message because they don't want to return it, but bully me into a partial refund. I respond with the same message, just rinse and repeat. In my experience, most just go away quietly.

OP3 weeks agoI asked him if he had looked at photos in listing prior to purchase, as i had a super clear image of the entire soles (of both shoes), as well as a close-up of the heel area. Of course no response. He now states it looks like previous owner had bad posture. Sheesh....

·3 weeks agoLOL...you cannot please everyone! They are purchasing "used shoes" of course they will conform to previous owner's foot.

·3 weeks agoDon't try to argue your position with the buyer, that rarely turns out well. You are playing into their hands, you do NOT need to justify yourself or your listing. The buyer is going to do what they want to do. To best protect yourself, consider what I shared in my first post. But if you feel compelled to try and argue with the buyer, I wish you the best of luck.

OP3 weeks agoYou are absolutely right, but sometimes my frustration gets the best of me.

·3 weeks agoIt does all of us. I completely understand. I am just determined NOT to play into a bullies hands. They love it when you banter back and forth with them. They get such satisfaction out of that. So I withhold that whenever possible and it drives them nuts.
