Ebay and UPS scam?
Summary: mgguitars shared an issue with eBay and UPS after a package shipped via eBay's platform went missing, leading to both companies redirecting responsibility. UPS claimed refunds are sent to eBay, not the seller, creating a frustrating loop with no resolution. ypbigdog and other participants echoed similar experiences, labeling it a scam to delay claims. Suggestions included opening a UPS account or using third-party shipping services like Pirate Ship to bypass eBay’s system. Several participants expressed skepticism about eBay’s involvement in processing claims, urging others not to abandon their claims.
So recently I shipped an item from an eBay sale. The package was lost I had to refund the buyer per eBay policy. I filed a claim with UPS called 4 times and was told because the label was printed through eBay UPS can’t refund my claim because it’s eBay’s UPS account, apparently when you print a label it’s through eBay’s account which I wasn’t aware of. UPS says get eBay to give me a release letter so I can get my item and shipping money returned to me to which eBay said they don’t do that. Two multi billion dollar corporations set up a shipping platform through eBay but when the shipping goes wrong I have no recourse to get my money back without running around between two companies neither of whom will do anything, while UPS approves the claim money back to eBay’s account. Are you kidding me? This is fraud I'm the only one this has happened too I doubt very much what do people do?

·3 weeks agoIts both Fedex and UPs. They will not honor a claim unless you have a letter from ebay stating ur authorized to collect. Im starting to wonder if ebay is putting the claims themselves for cases they close....

·3 weeks agoDoes UPS refund the value of the item lost ?
I thought you had to add insurance to get that, and the shipping insurance company would pay you back.
ypbigdog
·3 weeks agoEvery Shipping Company (UPS, FedEX and USPS) has a $100 baseline "insurance". The "Declared Value" is required for anything valued over $100 and the Declared Value is or acts like insurance. There is a fee for Declared Value but the first $100 is covered with very few exceptions.

·3 weeks agoI go through pirate ship, their cheaper and you can file with them, ebay wont' dispute UPS claims
ypbigdog
·3 weeks agoUsing a third party for shipping defeats the purpose of eBay Labels and eBay does not dispute claims regardless. The claim is never filed with eBay anyway but instead is filed with the Carrier (i.e.- UPS, FedEx or USPS). I don't know how UPS would handle a claim for an item that was shipped through PirateShip but I'm willing to wager it wouldn't be much different than eBay Labels.

·3 weeks agoSo far this year I've not had to file one claim using pirate ship, a lot different from with ebay, I average 1 per month if not more, I was actually told by ebay shipping they will not dispute a claim from UPS per contract, for overage or/and I got hit 3 times because of too much tape on box. With ebay I didn't have much problem for damage packages, I file though my UPS account. From what pirate ship says, you can file a claim though them, haven't had to in 8 months, so can't say.

·3 weeks agoUPS would NOT refund your buyer. They would refund YOU.
The buyer should file an INR in Ebay and from that INR, the seller processes it and refunds the buyer.
See if this link helps you get somewhere with UPS.

If not, you may need to contact Ebay directly.
On each Ebay page there is a link to contact Customer Service at the top of the page and again at the bottom of the page.
Things have changed in recent months and Ebay is not offering customer service on any site other than Ebay and Instagram right now.
Here are your options for contacting Ebay Customer Service. Please be aware that for social media CS, you send them a Private Message and briefly explain what your problem or issue is. Feel free to leave your Name, address, phone number and/or your email address in this message. It is private and secure and it may help to speed up the response for you.
https://www.instagram.com/ebay/
https://www.instagram.com/ebayforsellers/
Your options will be on the left. If you use the link below you can only get to the Automated Assistant or Chat box type AGENT in the box and hit enter. You will then get more options. Not all options are available 24/7. It will depend on staffing available. So sometimes you can request a call back and sometimes you can't. Sometimes you have the Chat option available and other times it won't me. If it is important to you to use one of those options, just try back later.
If you use a cell phone or other mobile device, you may need to turn off your Spam filter so that Ebay can call you.
If you are a seller outside of the US or Canada, you will need to use the Chat Option.

·3 weeks agothis is not relevant to the post ... the concern isn't about having UPS refund the Buyer but instead getting UPS to refund the Seller ... UPS has this ongoing scam of delaying the refund and it has to be stopped!
mam98031
·3 weeks agoSo, why isn't the information relevant. It is info on HOW to process a UPS claim and information on how to contact Ebay if the need arises. Seems like it applies to me.

·3 weeks agothe issue the Seller is facing and the same issue I faced three times over the course of one year is not filing the claim with UPS but instead how UPS responds to the claim. UPS has come up with this notion that they must send refund checks to eBay which begins the prolonged delay in processing the claim. eBay will have no involvement as they have stated repeatedly that carriers do not send refund checks to them. eBay uses a single "account" to pay UPS, FedEx, USPS, etc. but that does not make them the purchaser of the Label ... you are, the eBay Seller is the purchaser of the label. USPS and FedEx do not send refund checks to eBay. UPS has been partnered with eBay for more than a decade so you would think they would have learned by now. They employ this Scam in an effort to prevent from paying out on claims and that's wrong. It's no different than State Farm dragging their feet with the Palisades Fire victims to the point that California has filed suit against them. UPS' goal is to have eBayers abandoned their claims through relentless excuses and/or delay. Filing a claim with UPS is simple but their scam response is the problem. "mgguitars" didn't have a problem starting the claim with UPS and the issue wasn't UPS refunding the buyer that's why I said it wasn't relevant. Also, eBay will not get involved also why it's not relevant. The single issue is UPSand there policy. I'm not knocking your offer to help out but it wasn't anything the Seller did but how UPS chooses to respond.
mam98031
·3 weeks agoI get that. That is when the policy on how to process them can be handy. But if it isn't enough info, you may need to contact Ebay for further guidance.
I do understand that this process is beyond awful. It and other isues are what has driven many sellers from NOT purchasing UPS or Fedex shipping on Ebay.

·3 weeks agoI fought with UPS over the very same reason. I fought with UPS for more than 60 days over a $40 claim and would not relent. IT'S A SCAM. UPS is scamming people with this notion that they have to refund eBay because it's an "eBay Account" that paid for the label. Unfortunately, eBay is not taking an active role in this SCAM. UPS has been a partner of eBay for more than 20 years and use the same platform for more than 6 years. You would think UPS has learned by now. They claim they must send the refund check to eBay ... or worse, they apparently send the check to eBay (which cannot be verified) and then they actually claim they are required to wait 10 days to issue a Stop Payment. In my case specifically, after the "check to eBay" they claimed they did place a stop payment (10 days later) and the second check was sent to Louisiana "by mistake". So, we again had to wait 10 days, etc. The THIRD check was sent to New Jersey (I'm in Delaware) and after 10 more days, UPS claims the check was cashed and refused my calls. If it wasn't for the check sent to me by the corporate headquarters I would still be calling every single day!!! This is a conscious effort to delay settling a claim so the party opening the claim abandons the claim and UPS doesn't have to pay out. I'm curious if "mgguitars" abandoned the claim. If I were you, and I was, I would call every day. I eventually got a hold of someone in the Corporate Headquarters in Georgia and they sent me a check in two days. As a result, I have opened a Case with the State of Georgia Attorney General's office as well as the Federal Trade Commission. I am forwarding the post from "mgguitars" to each of these governing bodies. I wish more eBay Sellers would post about this specific situation ... UPS' claim that they have to send the check to eBay. I have a post in the eBay Community about this very subject.
To any and all that experience this, DO NOT GIVE UP and under no circumstances DO NOT ABANDON THE CLAIM !!!! I will update the case with the Georgia Attorney General and the Federal Trade Commission as soon as I can.

·3 weeks agoToo late for this shipment but for UPS or FedEx you should buy you shipping from a company that their business is shipping. This way you are dealing directly with people who can help you when something goes wrong.

OP3 weeks agoI did UPS shipping which the customer choose, if two multi billion dollar set up a shipping platform and then fail I shouldn’t be left hanging

·3 weeks agoJust open a UPS account, it's free, and file your claim thru that account.
ypbigdog
·3 weeks agoThe issue is not filing a Claim with UPS and having an Account with UPS is only helpful if you purchase the label directly through that account. Again, that defeats the process of eBay Labels and will not provide the same discounts offered through eBay Labels.
jonathanbrightlight
·3 weeks agoBoth eBay and UPS direct you to open a claim on the UPS site if there is a damaged package, with your own account. It doesn't have to be filed via eBay's account (contesting an adjustment does, but not a damage claim).

·3 weeks ago · EditedI have a UPS account and it seems to indicate I can file a claim even though I did not purchase the shipping directly from them.
Open a account and see it is will let you make the claim.
