Ebay allowed someone to return an item 60 days after deliver
Item was delivered, buyer left a good review, 2 months later they say it came broken and ebay is making me pay. What an absolute joke .

·4 months ago@ez_auctions330 Did the buyer actually open a return or were you notified of a chargeback? There is a big difference.
Buyers can indeed open a return for up to 60 days. I actually did not know that until last year when a buyer opened one up, I accepted and as I hit the button my eyes registered something about me not having to accept the return because it was beyond 30-days. By then it was too late because I had already hit the button. My point is it is easy to do when you don't realize a buyer can even do it. If you did that, like me, you just take the hit because you cannot undo it.
If it is a chargeback, then you should have responded to it unless eBay told you that you did not need to. In your response you would have submitted documentation to dispute the buyer's claim. In this case I would have submitted the buyer's positive feedback.

·4 months agoI say again Ebay is the merchant of record with buyers credit card company or bank once they jumped into Managed payments . the seller members are considered the suppliers .There for it is Easier for buyers to do credit card charge back dispute process . The dispute process gives 50 days for said merchant to fight the buyers claim. also buyer get's a temp credit from card company or bank during the process . eBay doesn't great history of fighting charge backs unless the seller is willing to force them to do so.

Either It's a chargeback like someone else said -or- you mistakenly accepted the return.

OP4 months agoThe return request came in 60 days after delivery. I was going to do nothing but in good faith I wanted to offer half the price of the item back. I guess me offering half reopened the return? I have no idea how they were even able to request a return after 30 days. I guess next time Ill do nothing .

·4 months agoEbay allows buyers to request returns after 30 days because some sellers are willing to accept them and will negotiate. But unless you have an extended return policy (60 days), you aren't obligated to accept.
Unless you clicked to accept the return, it wouldn't have been automatically accepted or refunded.

·4 months agoOnce eBay jumped into Managed payments ,it opened the door for buyers to just go to their credit card company and file charge back dispute . eBay doesn't always fight since they eBay are merchant of record .

I'm old enough to remember all of the "paypal sucks" threads that existed before managed payments.

·4 months agoSellers can win an INR chargeback if they have proof of delivery
Sellers can win a Not Recognized / Fraudulent if they have proof of delivery
It's extremely rare for a Seller to win a Not As Described chargeback, also extremely rare that the buyer would be required to return.
It's the same as what existed with PayPal except that for Fraudulent Use chargebacks PayPal only required proof of shipping for those.

·4 months agoThere are rare case's that seller's have won SNad by eBay backing them up. Those sellers had more details about their items in their listings that included any flaws on them item like a scratch . that buyer could use in SNad claims . I have been on eBay with my other ID for 30 years now ,and seen a lot on this site . most Snads the sellers on these boards post about end up being buyers getting free return shipping paid by the seller.

·4 months agoYes, if it does not fall under the specific cases where eBay offers seller protection, they will take it from your available funds, or your backup funding source.

·4 months ago@carlmarxx chargebacks were just as prevalent and easy when Paypal was the merchant.
If buyer used their Credit Card, chargebacks have been a thing for well over 2 decades on ebay.
