eBay Acts Unfairly With Customer Returns Allowing Delivery to Incorrect Address & Ignoring All Appeals
Summary: empoweredpc shared a detailed account of being scammed out of $4,000 on eBay due to a fraudulent return process that resulted in a significant financial penalty and account restrictions. They criticized eBay for charging excessive return shipping fees and failing to handle the appeal fairly, despite providing evidence of the incorrect delivery address. chrisseascornerthisnthat suggested filing a claim with FedEx and highlighted the importance of reporting misuse of the return system. mam98031 advised checking and updating account information to prevent address errors, while dbmm-media pointed out that return addresses are supplied by the sellers themselves. captainwoody1 expressed general dissatisfaction with eBay's business practices, comparing them unfavorably to other platforms.
eBay facilitated us being scammed out of $4K for a Ryzen 9 9950X3D, RTX 5080 gaming PC returned by a customer for buyer remorse, all the while penalizing our account with an order defect which triggered Below Standard metric and 6% penalty fee. First, eBay charged us over $200 for a return label generated on their own shipping account and not ours even though our rates are half as much and we have much better recourse with the carrier when its using our account. Secondly, the return shipment delivered to a self storage address many miles from ours in what appeared to be a deliberate fraud by the customer to manipulate the shipping. We had to go through our Fedex reps to get proof of delivery to the incorrect address since initially we could not get any information since eBay was the shipper of record. The proof of delivery from Fedex which we provided in our appeal clearly showed the incorrect address and yet eBay still rejected the appeal and didn't so much as remove the order defect either. Ultimately, eBay gave all the money back to the customer even though the return was delivered to incorrect address while subjecting us to an egregious shipping charge exceeding $200 and a 6% penalty fee which has rendered our selling account of 20+ year inoperable since they refused to remove the order defect. We had no choice but to removing all costly items from the store with plans to remove all remaining items if the account remains Below Standard after the next evaluation period. We cannot trust eBay to handle returns fairly. Also, eBay provides us no points of contact. We don't have this issue with Amazon and Walmart which assign us account reps and ensure returns deliver back to our address. We do over a half million dollars of weekly business on the other 2 platforms which we'll continue to operate instead of eBay. To new and existing sellers alike, be very cautious selling expensive items on eBay that are a magnet for fraud. eBay will not protect you. They will facilitate the fraud and cast a blind eye to it. eBay is only good for selling cheap, used and broken stuff, nothingmore.

·2 weeks agoWe have learned that Ebay is dishonest.
It would be so easy for Ebay to take market share from the fascist Amazon. Instead Ebay is so very focussed on nickle and diming their customers and sellers.

the return address is one that you supplied.

·3 weeks agoFrom what I see, you offer 30 day returns with buyer pays shipping. IF your buyer filed the INAD for a legit Buyer Remorse reason, the return shipping label would have been paid for by the buyer. If you actually paid for the return label, then the buyer did NOT open a Buyer's Remorse Return Request.
Also the ONE INAD would NEVER cause you to go Below Standard in your rating. You would have to have several others.
As for the Return To address. Sellers are in FULL control of that address. It is likely YOU need to update your account.

It is in your best interest to verify that each address is correct so that no further issues happen due to an incorrect address. This is the information Ebay pulls from when doing return labels [Return address above]. If Ebay generated the return label, the buyer had NO WAY to manipulate or even know about your other address.
I posted a separate post that gives you the information in which how you can contact Ebay. It isn't a secret and is available on all or at least most screens in Ebay, you just need to look.
Ebay handled your transaction with the information YOU had provided on your account. You are blaming Ebay when it was within; your control to update and keep your account info current. You have been selling for a long time and should have known about the various addresses in your account.
Ebay does protect its sellers, but the sellers have to follow the rules and provide correct information in their account set up. You have responsibilities too, it isn't all on Ebay.

·3 weeks agoOn each Ebay page there is a link to contact Customer Service at the top of the page and again at the bottom of the page.
Things have changed in recent months and Ebay is not offering customer service on any site other than Ebay and Instagram right now.
Here are your options for contacting Ebay Customer Service. Please be aware that for social media CS, you send them a Private Message and briefly explain what your problem or issue is. Feel free to leave your Name, address, phone number and/or your email address in this message. It is private and secure and it may help to speed up the response for you.

Your options will be on the left. If you use the link below you can only get to the Automated Assistant or Chat box type AGENT in the box and hit enter. You will then get more options. Not all options are available 24/7. It will depend on staffing available. So sometimes you can request a call back and sometimes you can't. Sometimes you have the Chat option available and other times it won't me. If it is important to you to use one of those options, just try back later.
If you use a cell phone or other mobile device, you may need to turn off your Spam filter so that Ebay can call you.
If you are a seller outside of the US or Canada, you will need to use the Chat Option.

·3 weeks agoCalling eBay is tricky. You have to manipulate it to get them to call you via the virtual chat with the robot on the item. Type specifically "Speak to representative" and it will give you the option.

·3 weeks agoThe classification of the return is where you should have reported buyer, if I'm reading this correctly. Right away, do a "Buyer misusing return system" That bolsters your case from the get-go. People are sneaky and it is not cool. Can you file an insurance claim through Fedex? I do many through USPS when something arrives broken. I refund the buyer, but put in a USPS claim immediately. Most of my items are within the 100 limit on that, though. I would call eBay rep and explain. Do not rely on the computer version of return. I have seen it immediately put through a return even before it says I was ever notified by customer. That comes second, which is not right.
