eBay’s USPS QR fiasco: defect for late shipping
Remember eBay’s USPS QR fiasco from earlier this month? Recap: USPS couldn’t accept the packages for a few days due to some technical glitch on eBay’s end. I wasted a couple trips to the Post Office plus time and money printing a label before I could finally ship one day late.
devon@ebay (https://community.ebay.com/t5/Report-eBay-Technical-Issues/USPS-QR-Codes-Issue-Has-Been-Resolved/m-p/33861445) assured us that we wouldn’t be penalized, but now I have a defect for late shipping. That’s the only item I’ve ever shipped late. I’ve appealed it and I chatted with an agent but they just wasted more of my time.
Anyone else having this issue? Any advice, or does eBay just blatantly lie now and ignore our requests to fix their mistakes? I’ve just about had it with their garbage.

·3 years agoIf that is the only item you have ever shipped late, you will not get a defect for late shipping. I have shipped the occasional thing late before (when I have had bad migraines and could not make it to the post office) and a single late shipment has never harmed me at all.

OP3 years agoI agree that *should* be how it works, but I absolutely *do* have a defect now, and the explanation says it’s from a late shipment. I did not have the defect until now.
The worst part is, I shipped late because of their mistake, AFTER they said they wouldn’t ding us. Actually, mistakes happen; I don’t even mind that part. The actual worst part is that they refuse to fix it.

·3 years agoIt's not a "Transaction Defect" which has a very specific meaning.
It can affect your service metrics BUT low volume sellers are protected, there is no effect on your selling account until you have at least 5, you have only the 1 so there is no penalty.

·3 years agoYou could try contacting them through facebook. They seem to be pretty good at fixing stuff. I'm sure you won't be the only one with a shipping ding, so they are probably familiar with the issue.

OP3 years agoThanks! Maybe I’ll have better luck through Facebook. I haven’t gotten anywhere yet.
And I figured there’d be a lot of other people with the same issue, so it would be an easy fix, but so far it’s just been the ol’ runaround.

·3 years agoFirst thing is that it wasn't a "few days", the problem started on the morning of July 9th and was resolved by USPS at about 6:00pm on the same day July 9th.
In any event, one shipment that had a late shipping scan would have zero effect on your account AND if the package was delivered by the last estimated delivery date it would not count at all.
FYI - The "mistake" (QR code not working) was a USPS problem that had nothing to do with eBay.

I don’t know whose “mistake†it was and I don’t care, but my point is that eBay said we wouldn’t be penalized, yet here I am. I was hoping for suggestions to resolve this rather than incorrect assertions and encouragement to pretend it’s my fault, but thanks anyway.

·3 years agoYou do not get "penalized" for one late shipment so there is nothing for eBay to fix.
If the one issue you put you over the limit then eBay might have removed it but since you say it's the only late shipping "ding" you have it is meaningless.

·3 years agoI thought the issue was that the USPS system would not accept QR codes during that time? QR codes are not exclusive to eBay shipping.

OP3 years agoNo clue whose fault it was. My point was that eBay assured us there would be no penalties and they’re not honoring that.
