eBay’s Inexcusable Seller Support Failures: A Plea for Justice
I'm penning this out of sheer frustration and disbelief over the inexcusable way my case has been handled by eBay support.
Background:
I maintained an eBay account for over half a decade, using it primarily as an observer, never as a seller or buyer.
About 9 months ago, I began exploring the idea of starting a dropshipping business. To evaluate the interest in the item and the number of views it can attract, my first step was to post a test listing. This was done purely for familiarization with eBay's seller flow and to validate my business idea.
The listing was promptly flagged and never got indexed, presumably due to the mismatch between the US listing location and my overseas IP - standard dropshipping practice.
Another potential reason could have been that I borrowed details from a similar listing to use as placeholders.
To my astonishment, just a few hours later, I received an automated email announcing the permanent suspension of my account.
Adding insult to injury, I wasn't informed about the crucial 7-day appeal window, a fact I discovered much later!
In my attempts to contact eBay's support, I've encountered impossible barriers:
Elusive & Robotic Communication: Immediately after the suspension, I reached out to eBay CS, only to receive a canned email response within a minute, stating there was nothing to be done. These automatic responses from eBay felt devoid of empathy or understanding. Determined to explain my situation, I even acquired a US number (since calls were exclusive to US numbers) in anticipation of a genuine conversation.
Broken Promises: On multiple occasions, when agents responded to my call requests, they showed no willingness for open dialogue. When I requested to speak with a supervisor, I was first told there was no point, as it wouldn’t change the outcome. Additionally, I learned that agents were working from home, meaning I couldn’t speak with a supervisor in real-time but would have to wait for days for a callback.

Despite my patience, these callbacks never happened, even after multiple attempts.
Dismissive & Cold Attitudes: Throughout my attempts, I was consistently brushed off. Instead of assistance or clarity, certain agents chose to stonewall, even hanging up on me, suggesting my concerns were of no value. This is not the level of service I expected from eBay.
Nontransparent Appeal Process: I was never informed of the 7-day appeal window, where it is still easier to reverse the decision, and by the time I discovered it, it was too late. Now, 9 months later, my account remains suspended, and guidance has been minimal.
Questioning the Logic:
Does it truly make sense for someone to maintain a genuine profile under his real name, for over 6 years, and then suddenly turn rogue?
I'm posting here to finally get a fair resolution:
To the eBay representatives—if you're out there, this is my urgent plea for your intervention.
Although I understand the importance of platform security, this chain of events feels profoundly unjust and outrageous. At the very least, I wish to see my buying privileges restored.
I'm hopeful an eBay official will come across this post and contact me, allowing me to provide more details.

·2 years agoIMHO, what happened to you is a consequence of artificial "intelligence".
1) Someone has an account but hasn't used it in years.
2) Suddenly list items using dropshipping.
3) Nowadays, eBay makes more money, comparatively, by controlling expenses than by increasing revenue. This means few humans = A LOT of software.
4) Control program INTERPRETS stolen account/suspicious use = indefinite suspension.
5) From what was said in 3, humans will be very busy every second, waiting for solutions in these conditions is useless.
You can be sure that ebay doesn't know you're suspended, a program knows, no one else, but since no one will have any interest in knowing, you're out.
In my opinion, before you start selling, you should have made a little purchase history to avoid the "verdict" of the program. Knowing about approved dropshipping options is also a must. I'm sure those programs have decision tables with cases defined, you've MATCHED one of those cases.
You have been suspended by a program... and perhaps with the collaboration of a human with no time to think.
Sorry for my english by google.

·2 years agoAs others have suggested, this is probably a result of using a drop shipper. Probably a drop shipper who is a retailer and ships in a manner which can be identified based on packaging or paperwork.
You do not get kind treatment for degrading the image of this marketplace, and shipping from another retailer lowers buyer satisfaction and willingness to buy from any seller on Ebay.
All Internet marketplaces are extremely image conscious and anything you do which reflects poorly on the Ebay is a reason to make you gone.
Longtime sellers who have not updated their behavior from what was accepted in the past are frequently disciplined or banned.

Did you read ebay's user agreement to learn restrictions on dropshipping, test listings and other TOS?
"I maintained an eBay account for over half a decade, using it primarily as an observer, never as a seller or buyer."
"Does it truly make sense for someone to maintain a genuine profile under his real name, for over 6 years, and then suddenly turn rogue?"
This means nothing! Ebay has no idea whether a "observer" has integrity if they've never used the site. The age of an account is irrelevant. And how would ebay know that you "maintained a genuine profile" and weren't rogue in the first place? (Not saying you are/were but ebay doesn't know or care!)
"I began exploring the idea of starting a dropshipping business."
Did you read the drop shipping policy and the way it's allowed?
"To evaluate the interest in the item and the number of views it can attract, my first step was to post a test listing."
Did you read the test listing policy and how test listings are to be conducted?
You made a lot of mistakes and incorrect assumptions. I think your days on ebay are done but if you try another ecommerce site, I recommend you familiarize yourself with the rules first.

OP2 years agoI appreciate your insights, but it's not my intention to dive deep into a discussion about the specifics of my profile.
However, just to address a few of your points: While eBay might not have direct ways of understanding the integrity of an "observer" , some info and activity can indeed hint at a genuine profile. Dropshipping, is allowed as per eBay's policy.
I admint that I wasn't aware of the specific test listing policy at that time, and I understand the importance of being in compliance with all policies. However, my intent with the test listing was to evaluate potential interest, which could only be assessed if listed in the actual category.
I'm fully aware of and admit to my mistake regarding the test listing, but given that it never went live, it caused no harm. A temporary suspension would have been a proportionate response.
Lastly, while my actions are under scrutiny here, eBay's system isn't flawless. Just try searching terms like "cashapp," and you'll see many listings that violate far stricter policies, just to highlight that both users and platforms can always learn and improve.

Ebay officials seldom if ever, come to these discussion forums as they are for users and buyers & my guess is they have other things to worry about. Sorry for your situation. Drop shipping is a risky business plan and almost always doesn't pan out. Seller support is difficult at times, I agree. The best thing you can do is follow the rules that are set here for all sellers. You'll do fine if you follow the rules and stay current, because like all businesses, things change.
Hang in there and Best of luck.

·2 years agoWhen an account is swiftly NARU'd like that, it is almost always because the account was linked to other accounts that have already been NARU'd. (NARU = Not a Registered User)
I think that most of the time, when someone comes in and complains that their stealth account was suspended, they already know exactly why, because their other stealth accounts have also been suspended in the past.

·2 years agoEbay has zero empathy for any sellers individual plights..their action is usually swift and permanent. With over thirty million sellers here, sellers are a dime a dozen.Theres no three strikes and you're out here, its one strike and you are out..forever.
This is a member to member forum of eBay buyers and sellers.Sorry but eBay representatives will not see or read your post.
Your length as a member has no bearing on suspensions or restrictions.
Simply using a similar listing is not a problem images and listings can be copied without any problems.
If you are permanently suspended there is no recovering from that. The message you received regarding the suspension will tell you why you’re suspended.
Once eBay makes that decision it’s done. Sorry.

·2 years agoThere is no need to try to get an answer from eBay. You are wasting your time if the suspension is permanent.
You're not supposed to create another account if you're permanently suspended. Any household members who have an account that eBay can link to you will also get suspended.

OP2 years agoIf I were to draw a parallel to the real world, based on your perspective, it would seem like everyone would serve permanent jail time for a single mistake.
I believe that systems, whether they are legal systems or eCommerce platforms like eBay, are operated by humans. And humans have the capacity for understanding, compassion, and the discretion to change decisions.
If you were a lawyer with this perspective, I imagine a lot of cases would simply be given up on.
I genuinely appreciate practical advice, so any constructive suggestions would be more valuable to me than resigning to the situation. I'm hopeful for a resolution, even if it's a long shot.

·2 years agoSince you are permanenly suspended, there is no resolution, and Im sure your appeal wouldnt have done any good either. Sorry.Ebay is a law onto themselves, and reserves the right to suspend any member permanently at any time. Read over the U/A agreement you agreed to when you signed up here.

·2 years agoAfter reading your reply to that other poster, felt like I needed to respond.
That person was simply explaining to you the way that eBay works. If that reply was not satisfactory to you, sorry, but that's how it is.
You may have failed to do some required reading before deciding to sell here, have no way of knowing.
eBay will have explained the reason for your restriction in the message you received.
None of us are in any way responsible for what happened to you. Your reply is a classic example of shooting the messenger.
Again, sorry.
