Drop shippers from Wal-Mart
Summary: kidzschoolfund raised concerns about eBay sellers using Walmart+ to drop ship items, potentially violating eBay's policies and using fraudulent means such as stolen credit cards. They noted their frustration with these practices, which undermine legitimate sellers and sought advice on reporting and resolving the issue. Other participants shared similar experiences with drop shipping from large retailers like Home Depot and Amazon, expressing mixed feelings about the practice. Some defended the legitimacy of drop shipping if buyers receive what they paid for, while others emphasized the potential ethical and legal violations involved.
Is anyone noticing sellers using Wal-Mart as a drop shipper? I don't mean using a fulfillment center, I mean using Wal-Mart+. Selling items on eBay, then using Wal-Mart+ to fill the order. Their prices are usually below Wal-Mart prices, and they are providing tracking that shows delivered, but they are not tracking they have purchased, but instead they use a program to get tracking that shows delivered to the zip code of the buyer. Tracking will not originate from the city the city they have on their account. I have ordered from a few of these sellers to see if what I was seeing on feedback was true and sure enough it was. I placed an order, was delivered to my front door in a Wal-Mart bag the next day, I called local Wal-Mart, gave them the order number off the bag, was told it came from a local Wal-Mart. I then called the 800-customer service number for Wal-Mart and was given the name of the person who purchased and had delivered to me. The day the item was supposed to be delivered, a tracking number was provided to me, showing delivered to my zip code, not originating from Florida where the item was supposedly located, but from Texas. Tracking was uploaded AFTER the item was showing delivered. Was able to get the address for the USPS delivery from a postal worker to see it was for an address a few miles away from me. I have been reporting to eBay as I have since found several sellers doing the same thing by looking at their feedback to see many buyers reporting the same issues. I have called eBay, reported seller and one agent was nice enough to send me a link to upload all of my findings such as USPS information, bags from Wal-Mart. I stumbled across this because one of my items that had been selling, stopped selling. I went to see if I was being undercut, to find out that I was and what was going on. Frustrated with eBay as I see several of these sellers have feedback from a year ago stating fake tracking and Wal-Mart bags and yet, they are still selling. Have been an eBay power seller for years with $600,000+ sales a year and this is going to put me out of business as many of my items are Wal-Mart items. Just wondering if anyone else is seeing this and if they have had any success reporting to eBay and seller being removed. One seller I reported has an account still, but no listings. Wondering if they were put in eBay jail for a while as punishment, but allowed to keep account, just have listing hid for a period of time as punishment??

·1 month agoI think the eBay community needs to work together to remove Walmart drop shippers from the platform and force eBay to close the "Awaiting Shipment" loophole that prevents buyers from opening an "item as not described" case. I can't believe this has been going on for years, and this is the first I've learned of it. Where these sellers are getting good feedback is another mystery, but they certainly have this game figured out.

So you see the estimated delivery dates? Wait until the day after the 'latest' date on each of them and click that 'I didn't receive it' menu choice. You literally didn't receive (all) of your order, and you don't have the INAD option without tracking showing 'Delivered', so you have every right to start an INR (Item Not Received) case.
This will force these fake sellers to make a choice, either refund you or I guess enter a fake tracking number, but let's cross that bridge if we come to it.
Please update here in a few days okay?

·1 month ago · EditedI'll let the delivery dates pass, and I'll update how it went. I tend to think the sellers will upload the Walmart receipts proving the orders were delivered, even though they were only partial orders, and the cases will be closed, but we'll see. tommytreasure
·1 month agoThere are no options because the sellers left the order status as "Awaiting Shipment". That knocks out a buyer's option to open a case. funfactorychannel
·1 month agoYou pay 40 dollars more to have an actual walmart truck deliver straight to your kitchen table if you want.
I understand tipping is their living but that's the job of a company to pay for delivery instead of hiding behind tipping. cutting a few Executive Senior Vice President who has two Senior Vice President, who has 4 Vice President, and maybe 10 directors of some efficency department might cover the cost.
A Tip suppose to be a reward and not a wage.

·3 months ago@kidzschoolfund Something just occurred to me. First, yes, when these items are listed on eBay for considerably less money than their Walmart price (even with a W+) account -then you're right; the "seller" has to be paying Walmart with a stolen credit card number, otherwise it would make no sense to sell at a loss.
But think about this: The "seller" has no idea how long it will be before any of the items will sell on eBay, therefore they don't know when they'll need to use "the" stolen credit card number, to purchase the inventory. Considering most card theft victims realize what happened and get their banks to freeze the account pretty quickly ...... then these "sellers" not only must be using stolen card numbers; they must be relying on an endless supply of them rotating in.
In other words, each "store" can't be just one person, it would have to be part of a whole RING operation.
jeffs55

onefootflipper
·3 months agoIt is worse than you might think. This is how this business model actually tends to work. The seller has a huge list of stolen credit card numbers and some sort of access to someone's shipping database.
They buy the item from Wally World as guest with a stolen credit card and pick delivery. They don't care how much gets charged to the card, it doesn't matter to them, card will likely go dead in a few days regardless of how many times they use it.
Wal-Mart delivers the item, they input a tracking number headed for the same zip code. Transaction appears totally clean from the ebay side of things, and they need not fear actual legal problems because they likely are not REALLY in America in the first place.
I realized the shipping database access thing years ago when a co-worker sold something on ebay to a local who came in and picked the thing up but it wasn't actually set up as local pickup and it just sat there in his account waiting for him to ship it. He finally noticed that we were shipping out an order from our own website to the same zip code, he put in that tracking number and that cleared the item out of his orders to ship page on ebay.

·3 months ago@onefootflipper
You are talking about something totally different than what the OP came here to discuss. You are correct there are sellers out there that do as you describe. Absolutely. But that is NOT what this thread is about.
This thread is about a seller that is Drop Shipping from Walmart. While some may not like that, that doesn't make it a scam or that the items are stolen. Buyers are not being taken advantage of. Buyers ARE getting what they ordered and paid for. What you describe, buyers are NOT getting what they ordered and paid for.
onefootflipper
·3 months agoYes, what I describe buyers are getting what they paid for. Which is why it can go on for so long. There are tons of these accounts and listings for all sorts of Wal-Mart food and household items that have delivered prices well below the Wal-Mart price. In fact those accounts compete with each other down to the penny.
The fact is it is impossible to sell an an item below the Wal-Mart price, and have Wal-Mart deliver it and still make money if there isn't some sort of crime involved. It is simple math. They would be underwater on every single transaction if they were paying for it themselves.
mam98031
·3 months agoThese aren't sellers that Sell on the Walmart site. These are sellers that sell elsewhere and Walmart operates as their Drop Shipper. Nothing illegal or unethical about that at all.
These sellers do not have "The seller has a huge list of stolen credit card numbers and some sort of access to someone's shipping database." That are sellers that set up shop here or elsewhere and have no intention of fulfilling orders but are here to steal from buyers. Again NOT what the OP is talking about here. This is a totally different thing and a very serious one, but still not what happened to this OP.
It is NOT "impossible to sell an an item below the Wal-Mart price". Walmart HAS a Drop Shipping program. So if someone applies to the program and gets accepted, they are able to purchase from Walmart at wholesale prices.
Now, I don't think anyone is going to get rich doing this nor is it something I would do, but that doesn't make it wrong for someone else.
I drop shipped fragrances for years. I'm very versed on how this program works.
onefootflipper
·3 months agoSo, Wal-Mart has a program where they will deliver $7 items to your customers house when you sell them for $4 free ship on ebay and clear only about $3 after fees?
mam98031
·3 months agoI do not pretend to know what Walmart's pricing is. What I do know is they have a legit Drop Shipping program that people can apply for. If they qualify, then sellers can sell their stuff and have Walmart ship it directly to their customer.
But again, the OP did NOT get ripped off. Whatever the Seller paid for the product simply is none of their business. The OP bought, paid for and received what they ordered. Whether or not the seller made a profit is of no concern of the OP.
kidzschoolfund
OP3 months agoI know what the seller paid, Walmart told me and it was less than I paid, so they are using stolen cards. No doubt!

·3 months agoNothing illegal or unethical about that at all.
Last I checked, it's against ebay policy to dropship from any other marketplace.
mam98031
·3 months agoEbay does not call that out to be specific to some other "Marketplace".
It is possible for an Ebay seller to OWN their stock and have it stored at an FBA location ran my Amazon. The seller OWNS the stock and AMZ ships that seller's stock out per their instructions to whatever address they give them for a FEE of course. The Ebay seller is simply paying AMZ for a service. AMZ does not own the inventory, the seller does. This is not against the Ebay rules.
gloryglorygifts
·3 months ago · Editedthat is NOT what the seller is doing in my case nor the OP's. I'm pretty sure that neither of them stock anything and just order it from Walmart.
I'm also pretty sure that ebay does frown upon someone selling on ebay and ordering them from Amazon from a 3rd party person or their fulfillment. I'm not talking about someone that is listed on both marketplaces. I'm talking about someone that does not have any stock.
kidzschoolfund
OP3 months agoIn my case, it was delivered by Walmart+ from my local store (that I buy from). 800 customer service number verified the price to me and after looking up the account that made the order, 2 reps told me they had NEVER seen anything like this before. It's not a legit owner of products and if it was, they would be shipped from a hub and not off a Walmart shelf and it would have had legit tracking, not tracking saying delivered to a home mile from me. They are scammers!
albertabrightalberta
·3 months agoThe complaint isn't that buyers are getting "scammed," meaning they ARE getting what they paid for.
But dropshipping sellers who use their Walmart + or their Amazon Prime accounts ARE violating the policies of ebay and Walmart & Amazon.
They do NOT own their items at the time those items are listed as required by ebay. After making a sale, those sellers go to their account and buy the item listing the buyer's name and address for shipping.
To defend such sellers just because they aren't scamming buyers (in the literal sense) is to defend bad behavior and is unethical to do so.
JMHO.
mam98031
·3 months agoNo they aren't IF they have an agreement with the company to be a drop shipper for them.
I am not aware of Amazon having a drop shipping program, so you are likely correct on that part. But Walmart DOES have a Drop Shipping program. IF the seller applied and was approved / accepted into the program, then the seller is free to purchase at wholesale prices and Walmart will ship to addresses the seller directs them to. But an agreement has to be in place to qualify for both Walmart's program as well as to be legit on Ebay.
kidzschoolfund
OP3 months agoIf they had an agreement with Wal-Mart, it would be shipped from the warehouse with tracking, not from my local Walmart. It was confirmed through Walmart, that the items were bought using Walmart+. Which if you don't know, is a service you pay $100 a year to have with Walmart for home delivery and for, $.10 off gas, free movie stations, etc.
mam98031
·3 months agoIDK that to be true.
The Walmart shipping program that you can sign up for does NOT give you discount pricing on the products as you previously stated this seller got. That membership is specifically for shipping services year round with no minimum order. So you are saying that for $100 bucks, WM gives you free shipping and an additional discount on the product being purchased?
glorybells
·3 months ago@mam98031 , the Walmart + program is similar to Amazon Prime. You pay ~$100/year, and you get free delivery plus some other perks, like free Paramount + subscription. What’s being discussed by the OP is similar to what happens on Amazon, which is why you and @albertabrightalberta are talking apples and oranges. You’re talking about Walmart having a program similar to Amazon Fullfillment where sellers store their inventory with Amazon and then Amazon ships it to the buyer. What the OP is talking about is the equivalent of sellers selling an item on eBay, and using their Amazon Prime account to order the item and ship it to the buyer (with a gift receipt). One is ok, one is not. Apples and oranges.

·3 months agoI would bet my entire business that Wal-Mart does not have a drop shipping program that delivers a wide variety of grocery items with a $7 website / shelf price to people for free at a price point so low that the seller would still have margin on a $4 ebay listing which would only clear them $3.14.
If you think that is somehow true than you cannot be helped.
If that was true then I would use the program and get all my groceries delivered 1 item at a time at half price. The sheer idea is ludicrous.
mam98031
·3 months agoWHAT? Why does it have to be a "grocery" item? I missed where anyone said we were talking about groceries.
But then I do see food items sold on Ebay and other sites, so I suppose it is possible.
FYI the OP said the price was not excessive. In fact the OP said in part "Their prices are usually below Wal-Mart prices,..." So the OP paid less and got what they ordered. Seems some are really upset by this when no one was ripped off.

·3 months ago · Edited@albertabrightalberta Not just your humble opinion; you are precisely RIGHT.
Someone here obviously has no idea what membership programs like Walmart Plus ('W+') and Amazon Prime are, and why they are ABSOLUTELY AGAINST EBAY POLICY FOR USE AS SELLING ITEMS ON EBAY. And it's against Amazon's and Walmart's policies too, for their membership customers to abuse their memberships for retail arbitrage.
But someone who doesn't understand any of that will keep arguing that they are right now matter how many people say otherwise, and how many times they have to pretend they can't read the explanatoins presented here.

·3 months agoTo me, the main thing is that they are using their Walmart+ or Amazon Prime to get the free shipping that is given to these consumer accounts. They pretend the item is going to friends or family, which you are allowed to do with these accounts. It is a cheating business model and Amazon will shut down the account.
kidzschoolfund
OP3 months agoThat is what I think is going on. There is no other explanation as to how they buy at Walmart and dropship. The Walmart agent confirmed that they paid the same amount that I saw on the website., which was over $14 and sold to me for $11, minus eBay fees, had Walmart deliver so they pocketed around $8. It's frustrating as they sell things I am selling and I cannot compete. I will lose money on what I bought. When I bought it, they were not selling this particular item. I sold mine for about a month and then my sales stopped. In looking to see who was undercutting me, I found the situation.

·3 months agoI actually ordered something from ebay a few months ago, got the tracking that it was delivered, opened an INR and then found out what happened. Yeah, it was delivered to the name of my street but Avenue instead of Place. The seller orders from Walmart and alters the address slightly. When I opened the INR, the seller uploads tracking showing delivery, EBAY refunds the customer, not the seller. The seller is a TRS and has positive feedbacks saying things like UPS delivered it to the wrong address, but I got a refund so these people are great.
Ebay is refunding the customers on here so that's no money out of the sellers pocket, if they open an INR. They must be using stolen credit cards to order from Walmart. I don't know how else they would be making money but they are definitely making money because they wouldn't keep doing it.
The one I dealt with had their listings disappear for a few days, but they are still up and operating on here. I have reported them, but it fell on deaf ears.
kidzschoolfund
OP3 months agoI know eBay will hide listings sometimes as a first step/slap on the wrist. I see that now with a few that I have been watching. People must just keep reporting them. I understand that it's nothing out of buyer's pockets, but here is the thing, eBay having to refund for sellers that are thieves, just drives up fees charged by eBay, which in turn drives up a seller's cost, which drives up prices for buyers. So, even though people say no harm, no foul, that's a short sided way to see it, as it will come back to the consumer in the long run, always does.

·3 months agoI am as disturbed as anyone by these dropshippers who buy from retailers.
This is a problem too large for Ebay to solve unless they restricted brands and categories to sellers who are manufacturer authorized, can prove they have purchased inventory, and do so prior to being able to list. These are requirements to sell on Amazon or Walmart.
Ebay only requires pre-authorization in very rare situations.
The rationale is, in part, that Ebay does not want to prevent sellers from buying liquidation merchandise and offering it a bargain prices.
Underlying, all of this is the fact that Amazon and Walmart, for the merchandise they sell themselves, pay less than the small Ebay seller pays. Many of the 3P sellers on those sites are paying less than smaller sellers also. They are high volume sellers who get the best discounts from their wholesale source.
The OP appears to sell in volume, but the OP may lack the same cost structure that the Walmart or Amazon sellers have. It is often cheaper to have Amazon or Walmart fulfill and ship orders than it is to do it yourself.
There is a short list of new, in production, product that I will consider buying on Ebay. I can get better pricing, faster delivery and a manufacturer's warranty on other sites.
The list of products I buy on Ebay has shrunk because I can buy my cheap Chinese expendable products on Temu for less with faster delivery.
I have sympathy for struggling Ebay sellers, but letting sympathy influence where I buy will not change the fact that many can longer succeed selling what they are selling on Ebay.
