Don't use shipcover insurance
I sold an item on April 23, and shipped it on April 24. Shipcover insurance just processed my claim today and did not cover me for a lost item, about $200 total. Even though I provided a statement of loss from the buyer and order details showing I refunded the buyer many weeks ago. The tracking shows an error that is was delivered, after fully refunding the buyer even though it has been lost in transit the whole time. USPS told me the package was deemed lost in emails, after doing an investigation.
I hope this helps others not do business with shipcover insurance because, they won't cover you even with evidence. Waste of time, they're so slow too. Prepare to lose over a months time with them.
I'm also a great seller on eBay, with always 100% feedback but unfortunately I got a buyer who had a lot of good feedback but was Puerto Rico based and my experience was poor. I would not do any business with Puerto Rico ever again. It seems like the buyer had plenty experience with abusing eBay claims and returns. Simply untrustworthy, so beware.
eBay is not on your side as a seller, the last time I sell on eBay, no more honest buyers and zero protection for eBay sellers. I will be deleting my eBay account soon, good luck.

·1 year agoThank you for bringing this to our attention. Our records show you shipped this item to PR on 4/24. On 5/7 your buyer opened an INR dispute and you opened a Missing Mail search. On 5/9 you refunded your buyer. The package was then delivered successfully on 5/17. You filed a claim for a “lost†package on 5/27. At the time you filed your claim, eBay sent your buyer a link asking them to verify that the item was lost or damaged. Your buyer did not respond to that within the 30 days they had to do so. On 6/27 we received your documentation. Your claim was reviewed on 7/1 and denied because the package was delivered and is not lost or damaged. Feel free to contact us via the same email thread if you have any additional questions or concerns.

·1 year agoAssuming the information @shipcover provided is correct, your mistake was hastily refunding your buyer only two days after filing a missing mail claim. You don't tell us what the tracking actually showed at the time you gave a refund, nor if there were any updates to the tracking after you filed the missing mail claim and before it showed delivered.
With USPS giving their logistical network an overhaul, many sellers have dealt with delayed packages. They aren't lost - they are delayed, in most cases it seems. I would have explained all of this to the buyer and let them know you appreciate their patience while you work with USPS to get their package moving again. Be sympathetic, show concern, but delay refunding until you are sure it is lost. That's how I've handled things and it has worked in my favor. I've not had to issue one refund yet, and buyers have gotten their packages. I've actually ended up with really good feedback because I was there for my buyer.
It sounds like Shipcover made the right call. Sorry. ðŸ™

OP1 year agoHello, thank you for your reply. The case is a little complex, but I have faith in shipcover decision. The buyer was not cooperative during that time and I had to block them after refunding then fully . I never had such issues with buyers before. I am a eBay seller veteran. I will eat up this loss, unfortunately. I'm not an expert on insurance claims, so maybe you're correct.
This post was made for help, and clarification about this insurance.
I hope this issue helps other eBay sellers in the future, no full refund to a buyer who opens false INR, wait it out. Is that what you imply? Because eBay did not resolve my issue in any case.
If so, it doesn't seem like eBay will refund the seller in any case.

·1 year agoI'm going through something similar right now...
A buyer in PR paid Jun14''25, and I shipped that day by the buyer's choice FedExGrEcn. Last week, I get an INR notification from eBay. FE website detailed tracking 74899998825429380814 shows it has been bouncing around GA for a couple of weeks, but not going anywhere. But the website won't accept that number for any action because it's the cheap service. So I called FE, but the guy said it's an invalid number, even after I told him it's on the website tracking - he couldn't do anything. So I called eBay, and she said to wait until the 9th, which is what one of eBay's pages says; and my only resolution is to refund the buyer 100%. But another eBay page & an email I got yesterday say I have until the 8th to resolve it. I told the buyer I'm waiting until Jul9, but I'm actually going to close/refund it tomorrow (Jul8) if it's not delivered because I don't know which day eBay really means.
Assuming it never moves again, and FE washes their hands of it, do I just eat it? Yeah, I know it's not $700, but what if it WAS? What if it is next time? The way I read the eBay pages, I was already protected by ShipCover. But this thread implies I would have had to pay more for that.

OP1 year agoHello good day, thanks for your reply. My experience was not good, but communication was not very clear in emails. However, I've read a few forum posts on here, eBay, and had similar experiences as me. But, I'm not sure the issue for my case, I will contact further for assistance for questions or concerns. Thank you. My post explains only my experience and I have seen some people say shipcover was good, so that's why I went with them on such a journey to insure my item, to Puerto Rico.

·1 year agoThe tracking shows 'an error that it was delivered'? Did it get delivered after the buyer was refunded? What do the latest scans of the tracking actually say? I see shipments in my selling account occasionally disappear for days at a time but then turn up later. I ship to Puerto Rico frequently using USPS and have not had any problems.
You have an uphill fight to get reimbursed for the lost item if the tracking now says that it was delivered. You can ask your local PO to pull up the tracking history and find the GPS coordinates of where the Delivered scan occurred. (Make an in-person visit to get this info - do not try to do it on the phone.)

·1 year agoSounds like the problem @Anonymous is USPS tracking confirms delivery.
Have you called ShipCover to discuss?

Did you submit a letter from the USPS with your claim, confirming the package was lost?

·1 year agoSeller says USPS says it wasn't delivered, despite tracking......(as I understand it)........so I'm not sure where " It seems like the buyer had plenty experience with abusing eBay claims and returns. Simply untrustworthy, so beware" comes from?
vintagecraze50
·1 year agoBuyers can make false claims of non receipt of item even when the tracking shows delivered. For these nuisance crappy buyers you must get a GPS coordinate from USPS as to where this package ended up to show buyer is either scamming or they are correct. GPS coordinates locate a package within a ft of where it is dropped off.

·1 year agoPurchase of additional insurance would only bridge the gap over the base carrier insurance provided. So, first file & receive the USPS claim. That is evidence of it being lost that you THEN bring to shipcover seeking the additional insurance. You skipped a step.
gurlcat
·1 year agoYou can still get $100 from USPS if you file the claim through them. That's automatic free insurance if you used Ground Advantage or Priority shipping.

·1 year agoWhat do you mean when you say "It seems like the buyer had plenty of experience with abusing eBay claims and returns." -??
Also "The tracking shows an error that it was delivered." What exactly did the tracking say?
tobaccocardyahoo
·1 year agoI am not surprised that if the tracking says delivered, ShipCover will not pay. USPS usually does not pay if the tracking says delivered either.
I am not surprised that exception handling, like this case takes a long time before you get a disappointing result.
Happens with many types of activities.
vintagecraze50
·1 year agoBuyers making false claims of non delivery can happen and you must get the GPS coordinates from the destination PO to support their false claim if that is what happened.
stuff4divas
·1 year ago@Anonymous sounds like shipcover views the 'delivered' scan a contradiction to a 'lost' package claim.
maybe call them or appeal?
thankfully, most buyers are not bad buyers, at least for me, so it is still worth selling here
Good Luck to u too

·1 year agoAssuming the item wasn't media mail..........you should be covered up to $100 by USPS........and if they say it was lost, despite (from what I understand) it was showing delivered.....try filing with them......at least get some back........

·1 year agoI have never had an issue filing an insurance claim with USPS or UPS. As such, I have opted not to purchase additional insurance via Shipcover for USPS and always use the USPS insurance. It is usually only $1-2 more than Shipcover and it leaves out the third party aspect which you are experiencing.
gurlcat
·1 year agoYeah I've always been leery of the 'third party' aspect too, and the OP's situation appears to show good reason to be leery. -Assuming there isn't some detail they left out that Shipcover considered.

That's interesting, because I've heard people here say just the opposite -- that Shipcover is more reliable than USPS insurance.

OP1 year agoHello good day, my experience with a past damaged item, a few years ago, with USPS extra insurance was not good, I lost $600 in total on two items that were damaged in transit and the buyer showed the damage but still denied after a long process. I bought shipcover to try them out since my experience with USPS was not good. My experience with insurance in general has varied as long as I've been a seller on eBay. It is rare for an item to gave any issue, but it happens.
