Does Simple Delivery for private UK sellers mean we lose payment and item if courier doesnt deliver?
Im trying to work out how Simple Delivery will work for private sellers when we only get paid after delivery. My first query is if Ebay's Simple Delivery courier loses the item and therefore dont deliver it am I then out of both the payment (as it is not delivered) and the item (as no info on how to claim compensation for lost item)?
I can see in the policy announcement Ebay says 'You'll (the seller) be protected if the item is lost or damaged from the point the item is scanned into the carrier's delivery network and until it's marked as delivered' but there is no details on HOW a private seller would be compensated for a lost item. No guidance on how a claim for a lost item would be made or to whom and how long till payment received. Will Ebay compensate the seller directly or will we have to chase Ebay's chosen courier for compensation when we have not purchased the service directly but through Ebay?
My second query is Ebays says 'At checkout your buyer is charged for the delivery cost and the amount is then paid to eBay for the label' If the buyer returns the item why am I expected to refund the buyers postage charge when I never received it in the first place? Surely Ebay should refund the postage the buyer paid directly to them? I know Im missing something but Im not sure what it is. Thoughts please.

·1 year agoI asked EBAY on phone......very 'woolly' answer.
My take on it was that SELLER will still have to go through a process with RM or EVRI to be compensated
It will not be AUTO-refunded as they are leading you to be believe
A damaged item (damaged by EVRI or RM) will be sent back to SELLER and you will also be involved with a dispute with the courier to prove who is at fault
EBAY told me, Simple delivery is just a way of simplifying the process, NOT taking responsibility for it (even though the SELLER will now take responsibility for packing item for FREE)

No idea what you are referring to... these are the USA boards. What is Simple Delivery?

It is a new change in the UK. Just because it is not being employed here, does not mean it won't be coming in one fashion or another in the future. It is always best to be informed.

In fact, I've heard from at least one US seller who recently received a survey from eBay indicating they may at least be considering the idea of some kind of managed shipping solution here too - the survey asked for opinions about a potential proprietary eBay delivery option that could offer pick up and even packaging services. 👀

If if it is mandatory, it would not be a good thing for those that prefer to buy shipping labels for the carrier of their choice someplace else and use a 'cash back' credit card.
Though I don't know the logistics of Mercari at this point, they did provide a similar program. The seller could select the 'method', however, so they were never obligated to travel 20 miles or more to the nearest UPS drop off...LOL..because the website determined UPS would be best.
I used it as a seller with no problem, the best being if a return was needed, Mercari would fund the return.
Sellers were also allowed to "ship on their own".
I haven't read the new UK protocol in a few days. Time I went back and review them again.

·1 year ago@wildlily07 as far as claims for loss or damage, with Simple Delivery eBay is the one purchasing the label (they just forward the pre-paid label to the seller) and so eBay will handle any claim that needs to be made with the carrier.
Sellers will not be compensated in that case - if the buyer claims loss or damage, it is the buyer who will be compensated and that compensation will be paid by eBay, not taken from the seller's funds. The seller will retain the full sales amount they were paid, so there is nothing for them to be compensated for, if that makes sense.
With Simple Delivery, the seller's responsibility is just to package the item, attach the pre-paid label provided by eBay and get it into the hands of the correct carrier - once there is an acceptance scan, the seller is not liable for loss or damage in transit.
However it's important to note, that only applies to Item Not Received or Damaged In Transit claims - returns are a whole different ballgame and in the Simple Delivery program, yes sellers may end up having to refund the buyer the cost of the original shipping even though that amount is not actually paid to the seller.
I'd definitely recommend for all private UK sellers to read the full terms and conditions for Simple Delivery very carefully as CEO Jamie Iannone has said it will become mandatory for private sales of eligible items sometime in Q1 2025.

OP1 year agoJust seen your answer. Thanks for taking the time even tho I posted on the wrong location board. Because in the UK we wont be paid until after delivery, I am wondering at what point will we be paid for the item if it goes missing using Simple Delivery? Will the seller also have to claim for the item payment or will it be paid automatically when the buyer is refunded?
valueaddedresource
·1 year ago@wildlily07 you're welcome!
My understanding is the seller will not have to claim for the item payment or do anything in those cases - eBay will handle all aspects of any claim for loss or damage on a Simple Delivery package as long as there is an acceptance scan from the carrier and if the buyer is due a refund, that money will come out of eBay's pocket, not the seller's.
As far as at what point will you be paid, that will be governed by the other new policy eBay has put in place regarding payouts for private sellers being delayed until after delivery, which applies whether you use Simple Delivery or not.

If we're talking about a Simple Delivery package that has been lost in transit, there would not be a delivery confirmation, so it should fall under that last bullet point with funds becoming available 14 calendar days from the order date.

·1 year agoNo they won't handle all claims, SELLER will be involved
bennotbill
·1 year agoA lot of what ebay says is deliberately vague so think it will be a case of we'll find out as it goes along.
Chances are things will just continue as usual with ebay taking a cut of the postage and lost parcel claims still being taken up directly with the courier.

SELLER potentially still responsible for loss

This forum is on eBay USA, and we don't have Simple Delivery here. You should ask about this on the eBay UK forum, because you're more likely to be able to reach members who are familiar with this.
