Does eBay send phone text messages to sellers?
I received a text message from 866-348-9509 today. The message says: "Your buyer is waiting for " item name". Please ship or update tracking: Https:// ebay.us/Pg9z2C
Is it a scammer or an eBay message?

OP3 years agoI contacted eBay customer service and they suggested me to report it under spoof@ebay.com to track and avoid this from happening in the future with other sellers as well.

·3 years agoSorry...I did not mean to imply that the message was legit
I said the URL was harmless......it (the page that the URL forwards to) looks familiar to me (like when I accidentally try a page meant for another account instead of the one I was logged in on)
on another note: It is always good advice to not click on unknown links....My computer is as close to bulletproof as you can get (I have been in programming since the 90's) so I click away without fear at times haha....
but I would never post that a URL is legit if it was not....for you amateur sleuths out there....(ebay.us)
I would hate for the OP to miss a legit message that may be new to all of us

·3 years agoI would say it is a scam. I am getting text's from Pay Pal, Netflix and one other that says there is a problem with my account and to contact them immediately or my account will be suspended. Only problem is I don't have an account with any of them. I will not repeat what text I sent to them as it is not nice.😋

·3 years agoScammer. I have had these before but when I check my seller hub the items is still awaiting payment. Block the number on your cell phone.

·3 years agoIf you question the authenticity of any communication, NEVER ship any item that does not show up in your My Ebay Seller Hub > Orders > Awaiting Shipment. That can be done with just a few clicks.

eBay America uses .com. I would say a scammer who wants to hijack your account.

Whatever the text message says ... is it true?
Did you sell a _________ and is it waiting to be shipped?
That's how I would determine if it's legit or not.

·3 years agoThe rule to follow is regardless of what text or email you get. Never click a link within it.
Go directly to the website and login.
Yesterday I got one that my Amazon account was suspended……… again. (I think I have seen that one at least half a dozen times)
Sometimes those messages can be legit but always treat them with suspicion.

·3 years agoI did google it and the OP's thread (this one) is the only hit that came up.
My suggestion to @lightningbestdeals is to go to your ebay and see if the message is there. If it's from ebay, it'll be in your messages and that's where you should access it.
IMO, the text you received doesn't look legit.

·3 years agoI saw those also but if you open them, it's a whole list of phone numbers beginning with the same 866-348 but the last 4 are different. I didn't scroll through the hundreds of numbers but didn't find the 9509 one.

·3 years agoInterestingly, I just got one of these myself this morning.
While it's true that I haven't shipped that item yet, when I clicked the link (yes yes I know, but what can I say, I'm a neko) the account it wanted me to log into was NOT that ID.
So whether this is legit or not, I don't know. I certainly wasn't going to use their link to log in.
But I'd sure like to know if it's not legit how they got my number to text me and how they know that item hasn't shipped yet? And where did they get my other ID from?
If this truly IS ebay, I think it's one of the WORST ideas they've come up with yet.
If I'm late shipping, there's a good reason and I do NOT need them nagging me about it with texts on my phone.

do you have multiple accounts (log-ins) like I do that list the same cell-phone?
unless I get one that utilizes my "cookies" I can't tell
(maybe it's above my pay-grade)

·3 years agoI can tell you I have NEVER received a text message from eBay when I have had a package overdue or forgot to ship.
Nah...they just downgrade me to the next available Seller Level because I don't sell enough and one wrong move and BAM!
I would highly recommend and not respond to it in lieu of what my other distinguished sellers have told you.
But...it might be a new program they are starting and they didn't tell me about it.

(I am assuming you are using the ebay app on your phone to list)
