Does eBay charge selling fees on shipping charges?
Summary: donnajosbooks asked whether eBay charges sellers a fee on the amount collected for shipping, as the Help section only provided an example with free shipping. Several users, including lisa5768, stainlessenginecovers, and tobaccocardyahoo, clarified that eBay charges fees based on the total amount the buyer pays, including item price, shipping, taxes, and other applicable fees. monroe67 provided additional details, explaining the varying final value fee percentages for different categories and the fixed per-order fee based on the total payment amount. The clarification provided by the responses helped donnajosbooks understand the fee structure better.
Does eBay charge sellers a fee on the amount collected for shipping? The Help section gives one example with the seller offering free shipping. I don't offer free shipping (as it is only free for the buyer; it costs me money for the shipping label), but there is no example with the seller charging the buyer for shipping.
I would like a straight answer from eBay: are selling fees charged on the amount the seller charges the buyer for shipping? And how much?

Not Exactly.
eBay's percentage Final Value Fee (FVF) is not charged on the amount the seller charges for shipping.
That percentage is charged on the total amount the buyer pays.
Your buyer will pay the price of the item, probably the amount that your listing shows for shipping, and most likely some sales taxes. If your buyer's delivery address is in Colorado or Minnesota, he may also pay a small delivery fee.
"And how much?"
That percentage varies among categories. You've got a lot of things for sale and I didn't look at everything.
If you are selling a guitar, eBay will retain a 6.7% FVF. Most categories carry a 13.6% FVF percentage, while books and magazines carry a 15.3% FVF.
One more detail: In addition to the percentage fee, eBay's Final Value Fee includes a fixed per-order fee. If the buyer's total payment is $10.00 or less, that fee is $0.30, thirty cents. If the buyer's total payment is $10.01 and more, the fee is $0.40, forty cents.

·1 month agoAs it's been for awhile, their fee's are based on the total amount the buyer pays, for item, shipping and sales tax.

·1 month agoEbay had to charge fees on the shipping because of the sellers who attempted to avoid fees by selling for a penny and charging a high shipping fee.
As our friend @stainlessenginecovers posted, the information is available to sellers who choose to read.

It might be time to upgrade your attachment.
The quote you post includes eBay's "old" fixed amount, per-order fee -- only 30 cents, for all orders.
A couple years ago, eBay limited that 30 cent fee to orders totaling $10.00 or less.
eBay increased that per-order fee to 40 cents for orders that total $10.01 and more.

Yes, Fees are based on the total the buyer pays. The item price, handling charges, shipping, sales tax, and any other applicable fees.
